Dear Readers,

The road to success comes through hard work

Only those who enjoy their work will achieve excellence and success. The techno-scientific progress of today is the fruit of long hours of human labor in the past. Let us not shy away from work. Even when we experience failures and frustrations, we should strain forward.

If we cultivate hard work as a style of life, we can achieve things in spite of our handicaps. Many great persons faced hurdles courageously and became successful. Everyone likes to take credit for the good he/she does. This is not selfishness or pride. It is an integral part of human nature. Seeing our good works others will also be inspired to work hard.

When we do any work with a sense of responsibility and commitment, we may feel tired and spent. But along with that feeling there is also a feeling of satisfaction and happiness.

Do not wait; the time will never be “just right’. Start where you stand, and work with whatever tools you may have at your command, and better tools will be found as you go along.

Create a purpose for your life, and live it each day. And many of the other success habits like hard work and working hard will fall into place automatically.

For yesterday is but a dream, and tomorrow is only a vision, but today well lived, make every yesterday a dream of happiness and every tomorrow a vision of hope.

Wishing you all the very best of all the best things in life.

tasks thereby earning the trust, respect and confidence of our customers.

As always I reiterate the need of the hour is to be more focused, proactive and cost efficient so that we are able to carry out our work diligently and work towards the common goal of the company.

There is no doubt in my mind that we have the right business strategy, the resources, the experience, the discipline and the will; and that we have demonstrated our ability to execute it. We need to continue driving the focus on high service performance, continuous improvement of operations, and as we expand our business, to provide solutions that keeps the customer first.

Orient Express Lines Fzco – Colombo Hub conducted its 2nd Agency Conference on the 7th / 8th of July 2011. This time around the conference was held in Cochin/Kerala which is better known as “God’s Own Country”. Key members from OEL’s agencies at Cochin, Chennai, Tuticorin and Colombo participated. It was one and a half days of intense discussions and brain storming, which yielded much fruit.

On the 8th afternoon, our Chairman Mr. S. Ramakrishnan and Managing Director Mr. L.B. Culas too joined the meetings. Mr. Ramakrishnan made a very inspirational speech where he thanked all units for their support during the difficult times to keep OEL’s flag flying high and also encouraged them to continue performing on the same levels in the future as well.

The Agency Conference was followed by a trade party for all our stake holders in Cochin. This was held at the Taj Malabar. All our main customers were felicitated

where the Chairman presented each one of them with a memento.

The next day after the trade party was for all the participants to unwind. A boat trip was organized where the participants enjoyed the back waters of Kerela. The key members of APL Cochin (being OEL’s main customer in Cochin) too were invited to enjoy the day along with the OEL team. It was a day full of fun, and at the end to the boat trip it was evident that there was a closer bonding between OEL and APL.

All units finally went back to their various locations fully motivated and all out to better their performances.

Laugh your heart outDance in the rainCherish the momentIgnore the painLive, Laugh, Love,Forgive and ForgetLife’s too short to beLiving with regrets.

Remember you are born to liveDon’t live because you are born!Don’t go the way life takes you…Take life the way you go!!

For everything you have missed, you have gained something else; And for everything you gained, you lose something else.It is about your outlook towards life. You can either regret or rejoice.

What we are today is result of our own past actions;Whatever we wish to be in future depends on our past actions;Decide how you have to act now.

We are responsible for what we are, whatever we wish ourselves to be.We have the power to make ourselves.

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take,But by the number of moments that take our breath away.

You may believe that you are responsible for what you do,

But for not what you think, the truth is you are responsible for what you think,Because it is only at this level that you can exercise choice. What you do comes from what you think.

Mistakes are painful when they happen. But years later, collection of mistakes is called experience.Which leads to Success.

Transworld – Saudi

Jeddah is the second largest city after the capital Riyadh city, with More than 3.4 million people living in Jeddah city. Jeddah (also spelled Jiddah, Jidda, or Jedda; Arabic: جّدة Jidda). Tradition has it that the city derives its name (meaning grandmother, in Arabic); located on the coast of the Red Sea, it is the main port of the Kingdom; main gate through which most of the pilgrims arrive by air and sea to perform Umrah, Haj or to visit the two holy mosques. Jeddah is an industrial and active commercial center. Jeddah is one of the most cosmopolitan, diverse, of all Saudi Arabian cities.

The city’s charm in: Its recreational offerings and its excellent airline connections abroad make it, according to many, the best place to live in Saudi Arabia. Known locally as “The Bride of the Red Sea,” Jeddah lies at about the same latitude as Honolulu and Hong Kong, and it shares their hot, humid climate; it is an important tourism center, with an eighty kilometer long beautiful cornice (Sea Side) on the Red Sea coast. Jeddah also comprises the King Abdul Aziz University, King Abdul Aziz International Airport and Jeddah Islamic Port. King Fahd Fountain is located inside the Red Sea, near the coast, is an outstanding feature of the port of Jeddah particularly during the night when it sends beautiful colored water up to two hundred and sixty meters.

Economically, Jeddah is focusing on further developing, capital investment in scientific and engineering leadership within Saudi Arabia, and the Middle East; Jeddah was independently ranked 4th in the Africa/ Mid-East region in terms of innovation in 2009 in the Innovation Cities Index. Also regionally, Jeddah is a primary resort city of the country. Jeddah was named a second-tier beta world City, according to Globalization and World Cities Study Group and Network (GaWC).

The Jeddah Seaport is the 32nd busiest seaport in the world as of 2008. It handles the majority of Saudi Arabia’s commercial movement. The port can accommodate the latest generation of large container vessels with a capacity of 6500 TEUs.

DP World operates the South Container Terminal (SCT) at Jeddah Islamic Port, a crucial link in the world’s busy east-west trade routes through the Red Sea; SCT at Jeddah Islamic Port is currently the largest port privatization project in Saudi Arabia. As the world’s major oil exporting country, and it has the Middle East’s largest, most diverse economy. The country depends on ports like Jeddah Islamic Port to distribute its many industrial exports.

In 2010, Jeddah Islamic Port handled a total of 49.1 million tons of cargo, including 33.1 million tons of import and 16.0 million tons of exports. The largest cargo category was containers, with Jeddah Islamic Port handling a total of 37.4 million tons of containerized cargo, including (1.94 million TEUs) of imports and (1.89 million TEUs) of exports.

With TRANSWORLD GROUP vision “TO BE A MAJOR PLAYER IN THE ENTIRE REGION”… Whereas by far Jeddah is the right place to be…!

For all women in Transworld, who is a mom, girl or becoming a mom one day; also for all families in Transworld, who have kids and plan to have kids.

Expectant mother’s diet can change her baby’s DNA

An expectant mother’s diet during pregnancy can alter her baby’s DNA in the womb, increasing it’s risk of obesity, heart disease and diabetes in later life.

This is a major break through because for the first time it gives us the potential to work out the optimal diet a mother should eat. That’s likely to vary slightly from mother to mother, the study provided the first scientific evidence linking pregnant women’s diet to childhood obesity, with major implications for public health.

Children with a high degree of epigenetic change were more likely to develop metabolism that ‘lays down more fat’ and become obese. Such children were around three kilograms heavier than their peers by the time they were aged six to nine. That’s a lot of extra weight at that age, adding that the extra fat was likely to be carried into adulthood, raising the chances of developing diabetes and heart disease.

Discuss: There’re many other aspects from mother affecting their baby in pregnancy by food, like character, skin, temper even blood type…like if mom take strong food, baby’s character also can’t be week…many field in human being need to do research and find the answer to help us have a healthier life, I don’t think it’s only happened in chance.

Transworld Shipping & Logistics

The last few months...

Effective June 2011, Sea Bridge Shipping Co LLC [SBS] underwent a name change & will be known as Transworld Shipping & Logistics LLC. [TSL]. This has been carried out to assist our clients to identify us as a company within the Transworld umbrella which will open up a host of products & services under a common brand name.

TSL closed the last fiscal with record breaking volumes surpassing all figures held till date taking Balaji to the top of the NVOCC charts & more importantly, staying there. This was made possible by breaking up our goals into smaller achievable parcels which in turn had a domino effect on larger goals. TSL’s greatest strength stems from its employees. Probably the first management lesson learnt by me as a kid was that this world was not made of Einsteins or the Edisons but by ordinary hard working people with average intelligence who come together as a cohesive force to realise their dreams. Team TSL is all this & more.

TSL has changed its strategy from a volume based ideology to a freight based ideology in order to protect the interest of our principles in the region. The move to enter new markets was bold & challenging but

then we would not have it any other way. BSL’s desire to spread its wings to new areas has gone down well & we echo the sentiment & offer our services to improve volumes to these areas of interest.

With the bullion & gas on the rise, pirates controlling sea corridors, freight rates refusing to look healthy & the increase in the ever mushrooming fly-by-night suitcase operators, the going will not be a bed of roses. The monsoon in India & the work underway at JNPT is sure to complicate matters. The only silver lining being that sea route still is & will continue to be the most preferred mode of transportation between continents.

The KISS approach [Keep it Simple, Silly / Keep it Short & Sweet] is as valid today since the time it was coined. All high flying ideas on investment & growth will come to naught if one fails keep an eye on the costs & ROI for the investor. TSL employees have one buzzword in their minds - Earn money, Save money. Making money is not a bad word anymore & as they say - no money, no honey.

Till we meet again... adios.

Full Steam Ahead

“It is by growing old that one learns to remain young.”

One fine day, a bus driver went to the bus garage, started his bus, and drove off along the route. No problems for the first few stops - a few people got on, a few got off, and things went generally well.

At the next stop, however, a big hulk of a Pathan got on. Six feet four, built like a wrestler, arms hanging down to the ground. He glared at the conductor and said, “Pathan doesn’t pay!” and sat down at the back.

Conductor didn’t argue with Pathan, but he wasn’t happy about it. The next day the same thing happened – Pathan got on again, made a show of refusing to pay, and sat down. And the next day, and the next..

This grated on the bus driver, who started losing sleep over the way the Pathan was taking advantage of the poor conductor. Finally he could stand it no longer. He signed up for body building courses, karate, judo, and all that good stuff. By the end of the summer, he had become quite strong; what’s more, he felt really good about himself.

So, on the next Monday, when the Pathan once again got on the bus and said, “Pathan doesn’t pay!”

The driver stood up, glared back at the Pathan, and screamed, “And why not?”

With a surprised look on his face, the Pathan replied, “Pathan has a bus pass.”

A man and his wife walked into a dentist’s office.

The man said to the dentist, “Doc, I’m in one heck of a hurry. I have two buddies sitting out in my car waiting for us to go play golf, so forget about the anesthetic, I don’t have time for the gums to get numb. I just want you to pull the tooth, and be done with it! We have a 10:00 AM tee off time at the best golf course in town and it’s 9:30 already... I don’t have time to wait for the anesthetic to work!’

The dentist thought to himself, “My goodness, this is surely a very brave man asking to have his tooth pulled without using anything to kill the pain.” So the dentist asks him, “Which tooth is it sir?”

The man turned to his wife and said, “Open your mouth Honey, and show him.”– Contributed by TSL

Berner AE has appointed Transworld Logistics to store and distribute their products in the UAE/region. A special purpose racking was set-up for Berner to efficiently manage the put-away and picking which will expedite order processing.

We are delighted to bring a strong brand like Berner into our distribution system and have enjoyed working alongside their teams to set-up this operation for them, says Warren Jacob.

Few things which human births search for during modern age:

Quote:- • Better indeed is knowledge than practice. • Better than knowledge is meditation on God. • But better than meditation is renunciation of the desire for the fruits of actions. • For peace follows immediately.

Where is peace? Peace is very much in us only. It is futile to search for peace somewhere in the outer world. If you want to attain peace, search for it in oneself. You have acquired all this knowledge from textbooks and your teachers. This is bookish knowledge. If you put it into practice, it becomes practical knowledge, which will remain with you

permanently. Rain water is pure. When you place a vessel while it is raining, you can collect pure water. It is like distilled water. By drinking that water, you will not be troubled by any ailment. When the same water is mixed up with other substances, it gets polluted. In the same manner, the mind which is always pure is polluted by desires. Hence, do not pollute your mind by cultivating desires. Keep the mind always pure. Whenever a desire arises in your mind, brush it aside to keep your mind free from pollution. Apart from reading your text books and acquiring knowledge, keep your mind always pure and free from pollution. This is what you have to understand in today’s world.

Disrespectful behaviors in the world: Nowadays, people keep their aged parents in the old age homes. This is not correct. The Upanishads exhort one: Mathrudevo bhava! Pithrudevo bhava! Acharyadevo bhava! (Respect you Mother! Respect your Father! Respect you teacher who has given the knowledge). One who forsakes his mother is not a human being at all! It is your mother

who brought you up to this stage. Hence, love your mother and serve her when she falls sick. You must develop the feeling that whatever your mother says is for your good only.

Power of Unity: What does unity mean? It is not the combination of many; it is the realization of oneness. When you have mirrors all around you, you see your many forms. These are all your different forms. But this is not the truth. The one who asks the question and the one who gives the reply, both are one and the same. The same person appears in many forms. To consider these forms as different from each other is a mistake. During this time period of time when there are inhuman practices going on in the world.

Press Release

TT Club delighted as FIATA’s training initiative attracts more participants than ever before.

12th July 2011 Four regional finalists representing the future of the freight forwarding industry are preparing to travel to Cairo, Egypt for the FIATA World Congress – 16 - 21 October 2011. The four, from the United Arab Emirates, Mexico, Hong Kong and Ireland , will each be hoping for selection as the overall Young International Freight Forwarder of the Year 2011 and a prize that includes hands-on training experience at one of TT Club’s regional centres in London, Hong Kong or New Jersey.

The Young International Freight Forwarder of the Year Award is recognition by FIATA, and the participating sponsors, of the need to develop quality in the industry and to reward young talent with valuable training opportunities. TT Club has been a sponsor of the award since its inception and firmly believes in the importance of individual training and development within the industry.

2011 attracted the highest number of participants in the Awards’ thirteen year history. Each participant had to select one key import commodity/cargo for their home country plus one key export commodity/cargo. They were asked in their dissertation to consider the complexity of the issues of importing and exporting i.e. bulk cargo, time sensitive delivery, hazardous goods, multi model moves as well as cross-border issues, regulatory issues and risk management.

The award will consist of practical and academic training, including a week based at one of the TT Club’s regional centres in London, Hong Kong or New Jersey and attendance at the TT Club’s “Insight into Transport Law and Insurance” course in London. Additionally, one year’s free subscription to the International Transport Journal (ITJ),

Switzerland and International Freighting Weekly in the UK, is provided.

TT Club’s European Regional Director, Andrew Kemp commented: “We were delighted that this year’s awards proved to be the most successful in terms of attracting candidates from across the globe - the highest number of candidates that we have had since the inception of the award. The topic that we had picked this year was intended to attract more candidates - so the Steering Committee are encouraged that this aim was met. In terms of the calibre of dissertations, this year’s candidates managed to raise the bar on expectations. It was clear that a lot of research, planning and hard work had gone into the production of these papers. The dissertations were of a consistently high standard.

It meant that the judging of the papers was significantly harder than in recent years - but, we are delighted to announce the Regional winners are:”

In today’s world of technological advances, the problems that arise from new technology may be greater than the value that is afforded people. Problems with computer crashes, viruses, Trojan horses, identity theft and more have definitely made dealing with the world more complex.

People need to isolate and understand the technical or mechanical difficulties that can occur with computers. This results in quite a long list of problems to solve. Most people are not particularly learned in these areas of new technology, so a computer specialist, often called a geek, needs to fix the problem and attach a high price tag to the job. If you nderstand some of the more common causes of computer difficulties, frequently you can cure the problem yourself.

Common Causes of Computer Issues:

• Viruses and spyware can result in a variety of start-up issues. Installing a free program, such as AVG free, Norton’s free trial, or McAfee will allow for a diagnosis and future protection. There are many good programs that can be obtained for free that will do a good job for you. Never run two different anti-virus programs at one time. If you have installed two programs, you need to choose one program and uninstall the other.

How To Improve Computer Speed • When the computer is running more slowly than usual, a virus may be the problem. Too many programs may be open at one time. It is good to clear the unnecessary programs occasionally. They represent clutter to your computer. It is comparable to you having too many papers or files on your desk. So much data is stored in your computer when you surf the Internet. Installing another free program, called CCleaner, is a good way to clean your computer at the end of each day. A registry cleaner is provided with this program. Registry problems can create many kinks in your computer and will cause it to slow down.

Dealing With New Computer Software

• There may be a problem with new hardware or new software that has recently been installed. Isolating these programs and uninstalling them temporarily will answer that question. Once they are uninstalled, check the computer start-up and the speed of operation.

• When visiting a site, cookies may be attached to your computer. Those sites that do this are monitoring your Internet habits. Clearing of these cookies will be done once you begin to use CCleaner. Never open an attachment to an email if you do not know the sender. Many viruses get into computers through these attachments.

How To Improve Computer Performance • Computer parts and programs may become obsolete over time. Peak performance will never be the same once they are. Occasionally updating your computer will resolve this. In this instance, it is a good idea to talk to a geek about how out-dated your computer is. Generally, if a legitimate repair person is not selling computers, they will give you an honest assessment of your computer.

• If the computer will not start, check the security of the hook-up devise. Put more simply, see if the computer is plugged-in. Check all of the connections. Make sure that all connections are secure.

• If the computer is making strange sounds, it may be that it is getting ready to crash. It may be something more minor, such as a wire resting on a cooling fan. There are as many reasons as there are noises.

When you think you have become somewhat computer literate, then the manufacturers change everything. Learning the causes and the cures of computer issues will always need an occasional, informational up-date.

Coming from different fields of engineering and stepping into the industry culture as an intern, is a new phase in a student’s life. Accompanying me, Purab Dilip Bhatia, are Wayne D’souza, Ravi Teja Sripada, Jerin Philip and Anushka Anthony representing BITS Pilani, Dubai here at the Transworld Group of Companies. As a part of the institute’s curriculum students are required to attend Practice School-1 (PS-1) for a span of two months to have the practical exposure of the working of modern day industries and take decisive action in real time situations.

Being posted to different companies at the Transworld Group of Companies, it has provided us with a basic platform to learn the varied aspects about the shipping industry that we as engineering students would have never come across. Our journey here throughout has helped us learn about Ship Owning & Management, Common Carrier Container Feeder Service, NVOCC, Logistics & Warehousing, Shipping Agency and Freight Forwarding.

As an intern at OEL Wayne D’souza under the guidance of Capt. Leslie Reis, CEO (OEL) has gained an in-depth knowledge of the functioning of modern day feeder services as well as in business management.

Ravi Teja Sripada and Jerin Philip placed at Balaji Shipping Lines (BSL) under Mr. Vinod Kumar Nair, Commercial Business Head, came across

many operations and terminologies viz. Terms of sale (INCOTERMS), Container types and their uses, documents involved in shipping (most imp: Bills of Lading), NVOCC, etc and how these fit into the applications of the real world. They also visited Transworld Shipping & Logistics where they were well versed with the sales procedure, export and import processes and also the logistics in port as well as outside port.

Along with Anushka Anthony, I was posted to Transworld Logistics where we were put under the sales and operations department respectively. Learning about warehousing, container freight station, transportation & documentation under Mr. Suresh Rajagopal, Head - Operations, I was able to correlate each of them and combine them to form a smooth process clearly distinguishing the functioning of each department. On the other hand, placed under Mr. Siddharth Nambiar, Sales Manager, Anushka had the opportunity to learn about air and sea import and export processes and how documentation is carried out for each of these processes during her visit to the Dubai Cargo Village Office.

Transworld Group of Companies has helped us students to expand our horizons, learn and develop innovative ideas and better our management skills that would help us achieve greater milestones in future and be leaders in our respective fields. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all staff members who have guided us through the course of our internship. We as engineering students look up to Transworld as an ideal organization to work in a comfortable, social yet hard working office environment with good work ethics.
