CommandsTranscoding and Rate Adaption Unit

CML:TRAU

1 IntroductionThis document describes the commands for the Transceiver and Rate Adaption Unit(TRAU), necessary to manage the TRAU itself.

1.1 Structure of the ManualThere is the possibility to jump by clicking on the selected item (reference to the param-eter description or to the GUI representation in chapter 2; reference to the commandsin chapter 3) to the requested information.

The manual is subdivided into four main parts:

a) Chapter 1 provides general informations about command structure and LMT Evolu-tion operations.

b) Chapter 2 describes objects and commands, listed in alphabetical order.c) Chapter 3 describes the parameters of the commands, listed in alphabetical order.

Additionally there is the information in which commands the parameter is used.d) Chapter 4 lists the NACK causes.

In the command representation (chapter 2) the parameters/attributes in brackets are op-tional parameters.

1.2 Structure of the CommandsBoth generic commands which can be obtained through selections from the LMT Evo-lution tree and commands which are created by the operator using the CLI interfacemust use the following syntax:

1. action object [3rd identifier]:NAME=object:n[/object:n],attribute=value[-value] [,at-tribute=value];

2. action object :NAME=object:n[/object:n],attribute=value[&value] [,attribute=value];3. action object [3rd identifier]:NAME=object:n[/object:n],REQATTL=attribute [&at-

tribute];4. action object [3rd identifier]:NAME=object:n[/object:n];

where:

"action” specifies the command that is being executed and that belongs to a list of func-tions applicable to the TRAU system (for example: "CREATE", "DELETE", "SET", etc).

“object ” represents the hardware or logical identifier that must be submitted to the com-mand (for example: "TRAC", "BSMS", etc).

“[object] ” logical identifier that must be submitted to the commands (for example:"NOSWL", "SWL").

"n" specifies the relative number (for example: TRAC:n n=0,). The LMT Evolution CLIallows “*” or “&” instead of a simple number for a object instance (for example: TRAC:*(all), TRAC:0&2&3 (0,2,3) or TRAC:0&&3 (0,1,2,3).

"attribute" is the acronym of the real attribute of an object (for example: LINERED-EQ=lineRedundancyEquipped).

iThe syntax rules shown in example 2. are used only for GET commands.

"value" represent the value of the attribute (or the values of its fields). It is possible toinput a value not just using the default data type (usually decimal) but also to input thedata e.g. as hex value or as binary value.

1.3 Command LayoutThe first information given for each command is the phase, or phases, within which thecommand can be entered. Then, subsequent selections are shown which are requiredto get the command starting from the LMT Evolution Tree.

The command is specified with its syntax and it is followed by the individual fields usedto explain the functions of the command itself.

Command Tree:

The command tree shows the way to get the command and a hint to a GUI example inchapter 1.

Applicability:

This field shows the working phases and the user profile which allow the execution ofthe command. The user profile visibility level is associated with a user identification"user_id" and password. Four user profiles visibility level are provided:

Each profile gives the user different access levels to the system features and the higheris the level the higher is the number of operations which can be performed.

Command Description:

This field explains the function of the command transmitted by the LMT Evolution to theTRAU (when and why it is used, for which operation task).

Long Names:

This part shows (for a overview) the abbreviations of the parameters/attributes used inthe command and its corresponding long names.

System Responses:

They are response messages sent as acknowledgment for completion of input com-mands or they contain information requested by the user. The typical structure of the re-sponse messages contains: the date and time, the command line, the system response. The response messages can be either normal (successful) or error messages. In sucha case they contain the reason for the failure.

Short system messages such as: indication of system loading/downloading functions inprogress, are also reported as information to the LMT Evolution.

Application Guidelines:

These are warnings given when using this command or information related to the envi-ronment in which the command is submitted.

Example of Command Execution:

0 ReadOnly1 Command Access2 ReadWrite3 Super User

1.4 Graphical User Interface (GUI) Representation of the LMTEvolution

1.4.1 Start LMT Evolution WindowLMT Evolution is the graphical user interface which performs the command interactionwith the Network Element. This enables the user to navigate the object containmentTree View (see Fig. 1.1) or Graphic View (see Fig. 1.2) of the NE and to select a spe-cific command from a list of available ones.

From the graphical point of view, the LMT Evolution Main window provides an accesspoint to all the LMT functionalities and represents an overall monitoring mode as regardsthe connection status information.

According to its dynamic and "adaptive" properties, the LMT Evolution Main window isdisplayed taking into account the connection and operating parameters that may affectthe visualization of the resulting window functionalities.

The main parameters that influence the visualization of LMT Main Window are:– Working Context: indicates a mode in which the user is currently working with the

LMT Evolution.– Network Element configuration: family, type, phase, version, ect.

By using the LMT Evolution the user can:– acquire commands, action or scripts– send and receive messages containing commands or responses to/from the net-

work element– have script/commands translation services– store issued commands and retrieve responses coming from the NE.

1.4.2 LMT Evolution Windows for GET, CREATE, SET,...., CommandsThe LMT Evolution is mainly used to build CREATE, SET, GET, LOCK, UNLOCK etc.commands to be sent to the Network Element. Starting from the containment Tree Viewor Graphic View, the user has to perform the following operations:– select the functional/equipment/software management object– select a command from the list of commands diplsyed by the pop up list box

(see Fig. 1.3).

Fig. 1.3 TRAU BR8.0 Tree View with List of Command

The presence of ellipses (see SET... ENVATRAUE Command) following the name ofthe command indicates that the command could require a further configuration of the at-tributes before beeing submitted. In this case the Command Viewer window is openedand the user can fill in the attribute cells as desired .

If no ellipses are present (see LOCK ENVATRAUE Command), the command does notneed any further configuration and it is submitted to the network element without open-ing the Command Viewer window.

In case of the presence of ellipses (see SET... ENVATRAUE Command) the CommandViewer panel is displayed (see Fig. 1.4). The user has to perform the following opera-tions:– select one or more parameters and chooses the appropriate values, the command

is executed after clicking on the “Submit” button.– If, during the translation phase, an error is found in the command string, the com-

mand is not sent to the N.E. In this case reenter the command following the instruc-tions provided by the diagnostic message shown in the right middle pane.

Application Guidelines:

1. Request of a lock command on the BSMS providing service: X is the BSMS copyproviding service. If the BSMS (1-X) is "Hot Standby" the behavior of the system isthe same as the "switch command". After the BSMS switch the administrative stateof the switched BSMS will be locked. Otherwise if the BSMS (1-X) is not in "HotStandby" status, the lock command on BSMS X will be refused.

2. If the BSMS (1-X) is in "Cold Standby" state this means that an 'alignment' or 'updat-ing' procedure was not successful. For recovering this case the operator may Lockand then Unlock the BSMS (1-X). This procedure starts on the active copy a datatransfers (alignment procedure) on the BSMS (1-X). If the alignment procedure endscorrectly, the standby status of the BSMS (1-X) will be "Hot Standby". If the standbystatus remains in Cold Standby a strong initialization it is necessary. Extract and re-insert the BSCI card (1-X) (see MMN:TRAU Manual).

3. Request of a Lock command on the TPWR that supplies power to BSMS providingservice: X is the BSMS copy providing service. If the BSMS (1-X) is "Hot Standby"the behavior of the system is the same as the "switch command". After the BSMSswitch the administrative state of the previous TPWR will be locked. Otherwise if theBSMS (1-X) is not in "Hot Standby" status, the Lock command on TPWR that sup-plies power to BSMS X will be refused.

Application Guidelines:

1. If the diagnostic is destructive, before issuing the PERFORMTEST command theMORT must be put in the administrative state LOCKED.

Application Guidelines:

1. The TO related to the required MORT is not present in the running tests or in thequeued test list.

2. The TO is currently present in the system but it can’t be stopped. DGDM can’t acti-vate the internal message interfaces because of lack of resources (e.g.no morememory pool available). With this command the TRAU Diagnostic Manager will stopthe first Test Object, related to that MORT, that it will find in the currently runningtests or in the queued tests. If the test is currently running the stop command will beexecuted only after the end of the currently internal workingphase. This means thatthe emission of the unsolicited message TEST REPORT could be delayed for a vari-able amount of time depending of what internal working phase was in execution atthe moment of the STOP TEST reception. On the contrary if the Test Object isqueued it will be immediately removed from the waiting queue. Moreover the unso-licited message TEST REPORT will be generated immediately.

Command Description:

This command is used to modify the line parameters of the PCMS. The parameter val-ues must be equal to those contained in the BSC database.

Long Names:

System Responses:

Application Guidelines:

1. The standard header of the message is not correct.2. Error in the reading and writing of the database.3. TRAUE must have the right value (PCM24 or PCM30).4. The command must be executed before physical connection establishment.5. The Crc Attribute value meaning depends on the Pcmtype attribute of the TRAUE

object:

6. Remal attribute can be set to a meaningful value only when the PCMTYPE attributeof the TRAUE object is set to PCM24; otherwise the command will be rejected.

7. The Code, Not_Urgent_Alarm and Bit_AlignmentFrame parameters must be set to'Null' value if the PCMTYPE is PCM24.

8. The Code, Not_Urgent_Alarm and Bit_Alignment_Frame parameters cannot be setto 'Null' value if the PCMTYPE is PCM30.

9. The value assigned to Lowber attribute must be greater or equal to the Ber one. Thismeans that the bit error rate for Lowber is lower or equal than the Ber one.

iIt is no longer compulsory that the PCMS Line Redundancy Equipped parameter is sim-metrically identical between BSC and TRAU.It is only required the consistency betweenthe local Redundancy Attribute and the local Cable Connection.I.e: The PCMS can be set in DUPLEX on the TRAU, and in SIMPLEX A/B on the BSC,or viceversa.

On the contrary if the Test Object isqueued it will be immediately removed from the waiting queue. Moreover the unso-licited message TEST REPORT will be generated immediately.

8. This answer is issued when the required PCMTYPE is PCM24 and the LAPD is con-figured on a timeslot in the range 25-31.

9. Note that: if the TRAU cards (BSCI V4, MSCI V2, TRAC V5) are configured with ajumpers setting in order to work with their powers on board (in this way the boardsderives the power directly from the 48V source), but the “TYPOFTRAUE” has thevalue “WITH_TPWR” then from the TRAU O&M point of view the TPWR object ispresent and is always ENABLE even if the TPWR cards are extracted from the rackor they are powered off! This situation means that at RC side the TPWR icons (forthat TRAU) will be present and displayed in GREEN color. This situation is due tothe fact that the boards jumper settings and the value of “TYPOFTRAUE” are notconsistent, moreover in this case (boards SELF-POWERED) the TRAU Hardwaresimulates the presence of the TPWR cards so from the Software point of view theTPWR cards are present and always well working. The TPWR Hardware simulationis necessary for the backwards Software compatibility. The consistency between thejumpers setting and the value of “TYPEOFTRAUE” is a duty of the Operator; theTRAU duty is to keep the service without outage even in case of inconsistency. Thefollowing table will be helpful to keep the Consistency:
