New Home, New Start, New Ways to Travel…Moving into a new home and community is a great time to think about how you travel and to try some new ways of getting around.
The TravelWest Team are here to help; whether it’s to work, school or college, travelling to toddler groups, day clubs, shopping, health appointments, or visiting friends and family. They will work with you to put together a travel pack that’s relevant for you.
This Pack and all the related services and offers have been produced by the West of England Partnership (Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Councils) with funding from the Department for Transport and in association with developers and housing associations.
Welcome to your new home and your travel information packThis supplements the previous travel guide.
Cheswick Village - what will it look like
Local buggy walks
Your neighbourhood - your new community
We can help you consider new ways to travel around the West… Thinking about the journeys you need to make
• Would you try another way to travel but don’t think you have any other options?
• Would you walk or cycle but not sure where to start?
• Would you use the bus but don’t know which bus you need, where to catch it or what time they run?
• Would you car share but not sure how it works?
Our TravelWest Team are here to help answer these questions and put together a travel pack that meets allyour travel needs.
Our Travelwest Team are coming to Cheswick VillageThe Team will try to speak with all residents at events or on the door step to talk through the journeys that need to be made. They offer free, impartial and professional advice and have a range of free travel offers available to help you try new ways of getting around. The range of offers include:
• Route planning – if you need to make a new journey, or try a different form of travel, our advisors can help.
• Loan bikes – If you are considering cycling, we can lend you a bike on a short term basis so you can try before you decide to buy (both pedal and electric bikes available - a refundable deposit is required).
• Cycle training – Adult and children’s cycle training is available to give you the skills and confidence to get back on two wheels.
• Accompanied Ride – If you’d like to gain more confidence in cycling a route we can accompany you.
• Dr Bike – If you already have a bike, but it needs some attention to get it running smoothly again, our mechanics can give it a once over. They can also provide help and advice on repairs and cycle maintenance.
• Bus Tickets – if you haven’t used a bus for a while, we have a range of FREE tickets available so you can give it a go and see how useful it can be.
• Car Sharing – we can help you find a car sharing buddy.
• Car Clubs – We have offers available to help you join a local car club such as membership deals and discounted drive time.
• Motor cycle training – If you want to get around on two wheels we can provide training to help you gain skills and confidence.
• Bus Buddy Service – If you’re not familiar with your route. A travel adviser can arrange to go with you the first time you make your journey.
Cheswick Village is a new development with approximately 1000 homes. There are good access links to the motorways M32, M4 and M5. Bristol Parkway and Filton Abbey Wood train stations are a short walk from Cheswick with regular trains to Bristol City Centre and London.
There are a number of shops nearby including the Abbey Wood retail park and a Sainsbury’s superstore. In neighbouring Harry Stoke there is a community forest path and at Filton you will find your local library.
Within the village itself, a new neighbourhood centre providing local shops and amenities is arranged around a central square.
55 bike stands are available to the general public providing 110 cycle spaces, plus 40 secure cycle spaces for residents living in the Square apartments.
There is a range of information available on your local authority website from when the rubbish is collected to local farmers markets and council tax information. www.southglos.gov.uk or www.bristol.gov.uk
The development is largely located within South Gloucestershire Council boundary with the exception of Aurora Spring which is located within Bristol City Council.
Buggy walks are a free sociable activity for parents and grandparents of very young children. Walking with a group is a great way to make new friends, explore your local area and get fit whilst having fun. At Cheswick walks take place on the second Monday of the month.
Meet at 10am and set off from: Wallcourt Farm Academy, Long Down Avenue, BS16 1GE
There will always be a buggy walk leader waiting to welcome you. Walks generally take around 45 minutes to one hour and are followed by a cuppa and a chat.
