Overcoming Objections

What Clients Say What You Say

“My credit card will cover it.”

“I don’t need insurance because I’m young and

healthy.”

“I already have health insurance.”

“Credit card coverage is more limited and varies depending on

what card you have.”

“What if you need to cancel your trip because something happens to your traveling companion, child, or

spouse?”

“Did you know that most domestic health insurance plans don’t cover

out-of-the-country emergency medical transportation?”

Back to Agent Training Tools

Chances are some of your clients will have misconceptions about their need for travel insurance. The best way to overcome their objections is to understand the issue and provide the right information that better informs them. You can turn an objection into a sales opportunity by preparing yourself for those situations.

For Your Clients

Page 41: Travel Insurance Marketing Guide 2016
Page 42: Travel Insurance Marketing Guide 2016

1. Life is unpredictable. Some trips need to be cancelled. With travel insurance, you don’t necessarily have to pay for a trip you are unable to take.

2. Airlines mishandled more than 21 million bags in 2013. Allianz Global Assistance can provide coverage to replace

needed items if your bags are delayed, damaged, or stolen.

3. Credit card coverage may not provide sufficient coverage for travel. The free coverage that may or may not be included with your credit card will never be as extensive as a separate travel insurance plan.

4. Sick happens. Nothing can ruin a vacation like getting sick. Travel insurance can provide you with peace of mind – especially when traveling outside the United States, where many hospitals request cash payments in the thousands before treatment can even begin.

5. Health insurance may not go the distance. Many U.S. health insurance policies (including Medicare and Medicaid) don’t cover international travel. And, those that do will likely not cover the cost of medical evacuation back to the U.S., which can cost more than $50,000.

6. Lost or forgotten medication? Travel insurance can provide assistance to help you locate a pharmacy to purchase a new prescription.

7. Even the most stable of travel suppliers can default quickly. If a cruise line, airline, or tour operator ceases operations due to financial hardship or bankruptcy, travel insurance can save you from paying for a trip you’ll never get to take.

8. In the event of an emergency, airlines are not required to refund a ticket. It’s ultimately the airline’s decision whether your situation warrants a full refund of the ticket cost. Most times however, airlines will merely offer a credit voucher (the original purchase price minus a penalty fee) towards future travel.

9. Flight delays can add up. It’s not the airline’s responsibility to cover the expenses you accrue when your flight is delayed or you miss a connection. Travel insurance can reimburse you for costs associated with these, including rebooking fees, meals, and accommodations.

10. We all experience tough economic times. The loss of a job or other income might mean a trip planned in advance may have to wait. Travel insurance can put cash back into your pocket when you need it most.

Allianz Global Assistance, a world leader in travel insurance and assistance services, offers many reasons to protect yourself and your family with travel insurance. We help travelers every year through unanticipated travel delays, bad weather, lost luggage, and medical emergencies in foreign countries.

Here are 10 reasons why experienced travelers choose Travel Insurance from Allianz Global Assistance:*

Covered ReasonsWho‘s Considered “Family?”

Travel Insurance by Allianz Global Assistance provides travelers with greater coverage by recognizing more people as

“family members” than any other company in the industry.

This graphic shows all of the individuals Allianz Global Assistance considers “family members,” which means any of them could trigger a covered reason. For instance, if your nanny gets sick and can’t care for your children while you’re away, and one of your plan’s covered reasons is “illness of a family member,” you could cancel or interrupt your trip and be covered.

The Certificate of Insurance/Policy includes a full list of covered reasons.

Protect Your Investment

Why Travel Insurance from Allianz Global Assistance

For Your Clients

How travel insurance can help protect your adventure.

Trip delays, interruptions, or even cancellations can cause unexpected headaches and expenses, but travel insurance can help make sure you are covered for any adjustments you need to make to overcome these situations. And should something worse happen, like a medical emergency or loss of employment before your trip even begins, you can get reimbursed for trip expenses, giving you peace of mind and dollars back in your wallet.

Of course no one likes to spend more money, but the truth is that anything can happen when traveling, and it’s a good idea to be covered just in case. Below are some of the most common ways that vacations get ruined and how travel insurance can help.

Lost or Stolen Luggage

Lost or delayed luggage can put a damper on any vacation, as most lost bags take five days to return to the owner. Stolen luggage is obviously worse as it’s unlikely that you’ll ever get your luggage back. Should your suitcase get delayed, lost, or stolen at any point during your trip, travel insurance can cover up to hundreds of dollars in reimbursement if you need to purchase new clothes, toiletries, and other essentials for your trip right away.

Medical Emergencies While Overseas

If you’re venturing abroad, travel insurance can be incredibly helpful in case a medical emergency occurs. Even if you are considerably healthy, foreign elements can negatively impact you, or random accidents can occur. In fact, anywhere between 30 - 50% of travelers stateside and abroad will become ill or injured at some point during a trip. Unfortunately, most American health insurance policies are ineffective or minimal overseas, and medical bills can quickly become astronomical. In the case of a medical evacuation, the cost on average is $60,000 and some places require payment before being treated. A good travel insurance policy can help cover your bills for doctor visits, hospital visits, and other medical bills relating to illness, accidents, or another medical emergency that might occur while traveling in a foreign country.

Page 47: Travel Insurance Marketing Guide 2016

Car Rental Accidents and Break-Ins

When booking a rental car, it’s important to check with your current auto insurance provider to see what kind of coverage you have while traveling in a rental vehicle. In most cases, insurance companies do not provide sufficient coverage for travelers. Travel insurance can help in case you get into an accident or if your car gets broken into or stolen. Often times, this insurance coverage will be much cheaper than if you purchase the additional insurance directly from the car rental company. Several different travel insurance plans include this as primary coverage, so any claims made won’t appear on your own personal insurance.

If you have further questions about travel insurance or if you need to purchase an insurance package for an upcoming trip, talk to your travel agent.
