Incorrect KeycodesIf you enter and confirm anincorrect Keycode, you will begiven further opportunities toenter the correct code.• At the first and second attempts,

the display will show if theattempt fails again and you canre-enter the correct code asdescribed previously.

• After two unsuccessful attempts, each subsequent failure to enterthe correct Keycode will lockthe unit for 60 minutes. You willnot be able to use it or enter acode until this period hasexpired.

Note: This waiting time will notelapse unless the radio is switchedon with the ignition on.Ten incorrect entry attempts willrender the unit permanentlyinoperative. Contact your localFord Dealer for help.

Disabling Keycode (EX units only)Keycode protection can beswitched on or off – See GeneralSettings. With Keycode protection disabled, there is no limit on entryopportunities, if you enter anincorrect Keycode. It also meansthat, if the audio unit isdisconnected from a power supplythen reconnected, it will be usablewithout entering a Keycode. If a Keycode protected system isremoved from the power supplyand then reconnected, the correctKeycode must be entered beforethe unit will operate.

Radio features

RADIO DATA SYSTEM (RDS)Most radio stations on the FMwaveband transmit additional codein their broadcast signal thatallows receivers equipped with thenecessary decoder to present moreinformation to the listener. This isknown as the Radio Data System(RDS). The additional featuresmay include the station name, thestation’s programme identificationnumber, alternative broadcastingfrequencies, clock and dateinformation, and trafficinformation.

Enhanced Other Network (RDS-EON)There is also a feature-enhancedversion known as Radio DataSystem – Enhanced OtherNetworks (RDS-EON) – thatprovides even more informationsuch as radio text and programmetype coding.

Note: Certain features may not beavailable from all radio stations.

Programme Identification code (PI)Each individual radio programmehas a unique identification codethat distinguishes it from all otherprogrammes. This allows the radioreceiver to know what other areasare transmitting the sameprogramme, even if they aretransmitting on differentfrequencies.

Alternative Frequencies (AF)By using the PI code, the radioreceiver can store a list oftransmitters in the same, oradjacent, areas transmitting aparticular programme.Consequently, if one transmitter’ssignal weakens, the audio unit canautomatically retune to a strongeralternative signal, if one exists.Under certain conditions, however, alternative frequency tuning maytemporarily disrupt normalreception.

Station name displays Audio units will display a selectedradio station’s name when theinformation is broadcast usingRDS. When no RDS information isavailable or on units without RDScapability, only the station’sfrequency will be displayed.

Programme type selection (PTY)Many programmes in the FMwaveband are categorised by thetype of material they broadcast. This classification takes the formof an identification number codedinto the broadcast signal.Programme searches can be basedon one of these classifications sothat you can choose to listen to aparticular type of programme.

Note: Some radio stations canalso transmit emergencyinformation under theundocumented category of ALARMbut this programme type cannot beselected manually.

Clock and date displaysTime and date informationbroadcast via RDS willautomatically update theinformation held in the audio unit.In most units, it cannot bemanually changed or altered. When the unit is switched on aseries of bars may appear until anRDS signal has been received.

NewsNews broadcasts by the currentlytuned station, or linked stations, will automatically interrupt normaloperations when this option isavailable and switched on. Whenthis happens, ‘NEWS’ appears inthe display.

Traffic informationMany stations broadcast a code tosignify that they carry trafficinformation. This is known asTraffic Programme Information(TP). The audio unit stores a list ofsuch programmes. When the currently tuned stationbroadcasts traffic announcements, the unit will automatically muteother audio sources until theannouncement is finished. Audio units equipped with RDS-EON can also interrupt the currentaudio source with announcementsfrom linked stations that are notcurrently tuned in.

• RDS OPTIONS (where available) – AF - Use the soft key alongside

this on-screen display, to switch this function on or off. With AF-ON selected, the unit continually evaluates signal strength and, if a better signal becomes available, the unit will switch to that alternative. It mutes while it checks a list of alternative frequencies and, if necessary, it will search onceacross the selected waveband for a genuine alternative frequency. It will restore radio reception when it finds one or, if one is not found, the unit willreturn to the original stored frequency and Not Found will be displayed. With AF-OFF selected, the original stored frequency remains selected.

– REG - Switch this function on or off in the same way as for AF. Some radio stations broadcast on more than one frequency, and split these frequencies into regional (REG) programmes at certain times of the day to provide local information. To benefit from this, use the soft key to switch the function on. But to prevent the radio automatically tuning between alternative frequencies and, possibly, producing a disjointedeffect, turn this feature off.

– RDS - Where available, select FIX for station name displays, VAR for additional information displays, FREQ for the frequencies or OFF if this feature is not required.

– NEWS - Switch this function on or off in the same way as for AF. When selected, NEWS appears in the display and broadcast news announcements will interrupt CD/MP3-file playback in a similar way to traffic interrupts.

– R-TXT - When selected, radio text allows other programme information to be displayed.

– PTY - To select programmes using their PTY codes.

If a lower bit rate is used, there will be a loss in audio quality.

The various combinations of CDburners, CD burning software and CD blanks may lead toplayback problems with certainCDs. If this happens with yourown burned CDs, try anotherbrand of disc or choose anothercolour of CD blank. To minimise problems, do not burnCDs at speeds greater than 16-speed. The CD format used mustbe ISO 9660 Level 1 / Level 2 orJoliet. Other formats cannot beplayed reliably.Your audio unit supports adirectory depth of eight. Deeperdirectories will not be recognizedor played. You can name eachdirectory using a PC and youraudio unit will display thesedirectory names.
