Club Members,
Please know that you DO NOT need to have a “show car” to be in the Club or
to participate in any of the events.
The Car Show is less than 35 days away, at this point, and we have four trophies left to sell out of forty. Since Patty Johnson e-mailed an invitation to join our Car Show to 300 past participants, we’ve been getting 6 to 8 entries a day for the last 2 weeks.
If you are going to the cruise and the burger burn, please let us know since we have to give the Elks Lodge a final count by 4/9/15. Hamburger, fries, and soft drink is $7.00. Hot dog, fries, and soft drink is $5.00. We also need our Club members to bring a dessert. KRIM is providing the music.
The Club is getting desperate for someone to step up and work with Patty Johnson, our Treasurer, and then take over the job in June. Please help our Club to keep going.
The next time you see Julius Zezima, give him a big ‘thank you’. He has gone above and beyond the call of duty by handling the trophy orders, designing and putting togeth-er the Show poster, selling trophies, etc.
Last but not least, the Car Show Committee Chair people have a meeting on 4/1/15 at Parks and Recreation office (on Main and Green Valley Pkwy) at 10 am. Be prepared to answer any of their questions.

News from the backseat

My Dad was an avid automobile owner. He bought the latest and greatest, especially throughout the 1950’s.
In the 1950’s my Dad owned a string of brand new cars, all of which had some special interest. His new 1953 Studebaker
Starlite coupe, a car that set styling standards, was an OHV V8 and a column shifted 3-speed manual transmission. The
1954 Ford Country Squire station wagon he bought was notable because Ford built all steel bodied station wagons in
1952, with Ford’s first overhead valve V8, the “Y-block” V8 engine.
He bought a 1956 Buick Century that later acquired a McCulloch supercharger and a 1956 Chevrolet Belair hardtop was
bought that had a Power-Pak 265 cid V8 which meant that the engine had a four barrel carburetor, dual exhaust and a
slightly higher cr than the standard V8 engine. He also owned a 1957 Chrysler 300C with a 380 hp 392 cu. in. Hemi,
which he drove for many years.
Somewhere between the 1954 country squire stationwagon, the 1956 Buick Century, and the 1956 Belair, my Dad
bought a new 1954 Hudson Hornet, the Hollywood model, with the Twin-H package. The engine was a 308 cid six cylin-
der flathead with twin carburetors (hence the Twin-H) and a high compression aluminum cylinder head. This Hornet had
a four-speed Hydramatic transmission. This car was a “tu-tone” yellow and cream and we called it “The Banana Wag-
on”.
Is it a wonder where my interest in cars developed???
