DAY 1 Wednesday August 7, 2019 Australia/ San Francisco USAToday we depart Australia on our flight to San Francisco, we cross the International Date Line and arrive on the day we depart. On arrival we will have an overview tour of San Francisco before we are transferred to our hotel. We will see the famous Golden Gate Bridge, the hills of San Francisco and the tram cars. This evening we will enjoy a welcome reception dinner at our hotel, where Glenn A Baker will welcome you to the tour and you can meet your fellow travellers and anticipate the musical journey that lies ahead.

DAY 2 Thursday August 8, 2019 San FranciscoToday we visit the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco which was the heart of the 1967 Summer of Love. The Haight has a rich history and continues to thrive to this day. However, this district changed quite a bit over the years. It was the heart of the “hippie” and “flower power” generation in the late 1950s and 1960s. We see the Grateful Dead house where during the summer of love Jerry Garcia and the rest of the band lived, played and indulged in mindbenders. We visit Amoeba Music with lots of records and merch available and the beautiful Golden Gate Park where The Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, and Jefferson Airplane performed impromptu concerts. We see the Avalon Ballroom and the Filmore Ballroom site. This evening Glenn will take us out to enjoy some music.

DAY 3 Friday August 9, 2019 San FranciscoThis morning should prove to be a memorable, if a somewhat confronting experience, as our guide takes us on a tour of the infamous Alcatraz Island & Prison, home to The Birdman and Al Capone. This unique program includes a ferry ride, specialist narration and audio tour. On our way to and from Alcatraz we will see Sausalito, the ‘Dock Of The Bay’ that Otis Redding sang about. The Bay Area of San Francisco also gave us Creedence Clearwater Revival. The rest of the day is free to explore part of San Francisco’s 18 square kilometres!

DAY 4 Saturday August 10, 2019 San FranciscoA free day to enjoy this relaxing coastal city.

DAY 5 Sunday August 11, 2019 Californian CoastThis morning we travel first to the attractive coastal city of Monterey well-knownfor the Monterey Pop Festival, one of the first. We see Cannery Row well-knownfrom John Steinbeck’s novels and now an upmarket area. We then continue further down the coast and check into our hotel.

DAY 6 Monday August 12, 2019 Los AngelesThis morning we continue down the coast to Los Angeles. We stop at theBig Sur where a number of festivals were held. We also stop at the entrance toNeverland Ranch which was built and owned by Michael Jackson. Upon arrivalin Los Angeles we are transferred to our hotel.

DAY 7 Tuesday August 13, 2019 Los Angeles Today we have a sightseeing tour of Los Angeles. We visit Sunset Strip and the Hollywood Boulevard Walk of Fame, with its plaques of tribute, then the Rock Walk outside the Guitar Centre, a celebration of rock legends and guitar heroes. Established in 1985 along the lines of Grauman’s Chinese Theater, it is full of handprints from some of the biggest names in music history. We’ll take lunch at the Laurel Canyon Country Store, a tiny market and deli which has long catered to gatherings of artists and musicians. The cultural center of Laurel Canyon for a full century it was immortalised in the Doors song Love Street. The canyon became a secluded haven for bohemian performers, including Joni Mitchell, Carole King and the Byrds. At the height of the counterculture movement of the 1960s, it was southern California’s answer to Haight-Ashbury in San Francisco. We visit the Morrison Hotel galley at the Sunset Marquis. The Marquis has long been a hideaway for musicians. Everyone from The Clash to Gun ‘N Roses camped out here, and Bruce Springsteen and Elton John still use it as their LA address. There’s a recording studio on site which Billy Bob Thornton seems to have booked out permanently. We also visit the Grammy Museum. Visitors can

Page 3: Travelrite International invites you to join us on the ... · and the building immortalized by Led Zeppelin on their ‘Physical Graffiti’ album. This evening Glenn will take the

Apartment building outside of which he was assassinated in 1980. We see the Brill building which is widely considered the most important generator of popular songs in the Western world. By 1962, more than 160 music businesses were based here, from songwriters and managers to record companies and promoters. It was a one-stop shop for artists, who could craft a song, hire musicians, cut a demo and convince a producer to sign them without leaving the building. Among the legends who did were Carole King, Neil Sedaka, Neil Diamond and Paul Simon. We also see the Ed Sullivan Theatre from where the Tonight Show has long been telecast. We will have lunch at the Southern-styled Opry City Stage watching a performance. We also see the famous Chelsea Hotel where Rockers as varied as Alice Cooper, Janis Joplin, Sid Vicious and Jimi Hendrix once stayed and Bob Dylan wrote some of his most important songs.

DAY 14 Tuesday August 20, 2019 New YorkToday Glenn will takes us on a musical-themed walking tour of Greenwhich Village. We’ll see where Simon & Garfunkel’s Bleecker Street was set, the legendary Gaslight Café, the street where Bob Dylan had an album cover photographed, we’ll take in Jimi Hendrix’ Electric Ladyland recording studio and the building immortalized by Led Zeppelin on their ‘Physical Graffiti’ album. This evening Glenn will take the group to a performance at Café Wha? Of all the 1960s folk clubs in Greenwich Village, Café Wha? was perhaps the most influential, helping launch the careers of Jimi Hendrix, the Velvet Underground and and Bruce Springsteen. Dylan played his first NYC show here in 1961, immortalising the experience in the lyrics to ‘Talkin’ New York’.

DAY 15 Wednesday August 21, 2019 New YorkA free day to explore New York City. You may wish to ‘take in’ the spectacular views of New York from the top of the Empire State Building or the Top of the Rock Observation Deck, at Rockefeller Plaza. This evening Glenn will take the group out to a musically-themed Broadway show.

DAY 16 Thursday August 22, 2019 Woodstock, Bethel Woodstock is known as one of the greatest happenings of all time and – perhaps the most pivotal moment in music history. The Woodstock Music Festival began on August 15, 1969, as an estimate half a million people jammed onto Max Yasgur’s dairy farm near Bethel in upstate New York for the three-day music festival. Billed as “An Aquarian Experience: 3 Days of Peace and Music,” the epic event would later be known simply as Woodstock and become synonymous with the counterculture movement of the 1960s. On arrival we visit the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, including the Museum. The Museum’s main exhibit is an immersive, captivating multi-media experience that combines film, music, interactive displays, artifacts, and personal narratives to tell the story of The Sixties and the Woodstock festival. The main exhibit explores the unique experience of the Woodstock festival and its significance as a culminating event of a decade of sweeping cultural transformation. It highlights the social, political, cultural, and musical transformations of the period and helps us understand that many of the ideals and lessons of that era are still relevant in today’s world. In the vicinity is the famous pink house where Bob Dylan and The Band laid down what would be released in time as The Basement Tapes and The Band came up with their Music From Big Pink album.

DAY 17 Friday August 23, 2019 WoodstockWe have a free morning before transferring back to New York for a return flight to Australia.

DAY 18 Saturday August 24, 2019 In-flight

DAY 19 Sunday August 25, 2019 Arrive Australia Today we arrive in Australia where our tour concludes.

walk through hallways of music history, celebrating everything from rhythm and blues to rock ‘n’ roll and everywhere in between. This evening Glenn will take us out to a gig at the famous Whisky A- Go-Go. The Whisky A-Go-Go has played host to rock ‘n’ roll’s most important bands, from the Doors, Janis Joplin and Led Zeppelin to today’s up and coming new artists.

DAY 8 Wednesday August 14, 2019 Los AngelesThis morning we have a tour of rock and movie stars mansions. This afternoon we visit some of the sites associated with The Beach Boys. This evening Glenn will take the group to the historic Troubadour Club. Since opening in 1957, the legendary Troubadour in West Hollywood has helped launch some of contemporary music’s most talented performers. Greats such as Elton John, James Taylor, Eagles and Tom Waits performed there early in their careers, and it continues to be a destination for cutting-edge acts from around the world.

DAY 9 Thursday August 15, 2019 Cleveland, OhioThis morning we depart Los Angeles and fly to Cleveland. On arrival we are transferred to our hotel.

DAY 10 Friday August 16, 2019 Cleveland, OhioToday we will have an orientation tour of the city of Cleveland. We see the shoreline of Lake Erie, the little Italy district, the West Side market and more. We then visit Flower Child a vintage department store and museum. From funky furniture, art, and housewares, to the clothes and accessories that match, Flower Child transforms vintage shopping into a time travelling experience! You might go from a modern 1950’s living room, to a sci-fi 1970’s kitchen, to a plush 60’s bedroom, all within the space of 20 steps. They have one of the best mid-century collections in the Midwest. Tonight, the doors of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame open at 7pm for an exclusive four hours among the exhibits. It’s been said that visiting the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is like taking a peek into your favourite musician’s closet. The Hall’s permanent collection contains thousands of one-of-a-kind items ranging from musical instruments and song lyrics to quirky stage props and colourful costumes.A second unique feature of this evening is the Moon Rock Party on the Rock Hall Plaza. In 1969, just 26 days before Woodstock began, Neil Armstrong left Apollo 11 and walked upon the moon. Come and join us on a night when there’ll be a full moon over Cleveland and when, as the musical Hair told us, “Peace will guide the Planets and Love will steer the Stars.”

DAY 11 Saturday August, 17 2019 ClevelandThe morning will be free to explore Cleveland. Early afternoon we take a luncheon cruise on The Nautica Queen. The luncheon cruise is a unique adventure combining the best of dining and sightseeing in Cleveland. There’s a lavish buffet and musical entertainment while cruising under historic bridges and along the lake and riverfront. The Second night’s event coincides with the opening of Woodstock 50 years before. It is a Rock Gala, at the famous Cleveland Auditorium - a dinner dance with a musical stage production, a Woodstock Tribute Band and an audience in bell bottoms and tie-died t-shirts. We encourage everyone to dress in their best late 60s hippie- style clothing.

DAY 12 Sunday August 18, 2019 New YorkToday we fly to New York, situated on one of the world’s largest natural harbours and consists of five boroughs: Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, The Bronx and Staten Island.
