TRB Chemedica – an overviewTRB Chemedica is a medium-sized Swiss pharmaceutical company, with a
focus on research, development and commercialisation of innovative niche
products in specific therapeutic areas, including rheumatology, ophthalmology
and neurology. We market a range of ethical pharmaceuticals and medical
devices, most of which are patented, in more than 40 countries worldwide.
Our commitment to innovation is apparent from the strong portfolio of
products in the development pipeline.
Research and development is the key to our present and future success. Through
research conducted in our own laboratories, and in collaboration with academic
groups, we will continue to grow our product range. We have an experienced
development team to take our products through all the stages of the international
development and regulatory approval process. Our state-of-the-art production
facilities enable the products to be manufactured in-house, before being
marketed internationally.
TRB Chemedica is a growing organisation, which today employs more than 400
people worldwide. The international headquarters are in Geneva, Switzerland, with
subsidiaries in Argentina, Austria, Brazil, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Malaysia,
Mexico, Singapore, Switzerland, Thailand and the UK. Our plan for the future is to
increase in-house manufacturing capacity, continue to develop the subsidiaries, and
extend the distribution network to cover more countries around the world. TRB
Chemedica is committed to growth in the international arena.
A growing manufacturing capacityManufacturing activities within TRB Chemedica include the production of raw
materials, pharmaceutical medical products and medical devices in our
manufacturing facilities in Vouvry, Switzerland, in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and also in
Buenos Aires, Argentina. However, the challenge in the current highly competitive
marketplace is to shorten development time and to manufacture products for
global markets quickly, efficiently and reliably. In order to maximise the full
potential of the product range that is currently in development, it is essential that
we increase our manufacturing capability.
Our aims are to:
• continue to upgrade and expand our in-house manufacturing capacity
• excel in sterile production
• bring innovative solutions for each line of products through a multidisciplinary
approach
• in the longer term, move all raw material production in-house.
A heavy investment is required in order to achieve these aims, but the initial results
are already evident in the new sterile production unit at TRB Chemedica, Vouvry.
This new facility includes laboratories, pilot plants and manufacturing units, and
was built to comply with the necessary Swiss and European manufacturing
regulations. In addition, we are working towards gaining US FDA approval.
The growth of our manufacturing base will facilitate a rapid progression from the
product development stage to cost-effective, full-scale production of a quality product.
By updating and expanding both our industrial operations and our marketing
activities, we will increase the speed at which products can reach the market.
From research and manufacturing……to reality TRB Chemedica currently markets a range of ethical pharmaceuticals and medical
devices, with a focus on the therapeutic areas of rheumatology, ophthalmology
and neurology. These include key products, such as:
A specific oral agent that is highly effective in relieving the symptoms
of osteoarthritis, without the gastrointestinal toxicity that is associated
with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. It has also been shown to
slow the progression of the disease.
A highly purified sodium hyaluronate injection, which is used to
supplement the synovial fluid in a joint affected by osteoarthritis,
restoring its viscoelastic characteristics. This decreases pain and
improves function in the impaired joint.
A unique lubricant eye drop for the treatment of sensation of ocular
dryness. It contains sodium hyaluronate and essential ions, which
provide its distinctive viscoelastic properties, making it very close in
characteristics to natural tears.

We also have a pipeline of more than 20 products that are currently in development,
most of which are patented and innovative niche products. They will introduce us into
new therapeutic areas, as well as helping to fuel growth in our current areas of interest.
With a broad and innovative pipeline targeting new therapeutic areas, a strong
focus on research and development, and growing manufacturing and marketing
capacity, the future looks promising for TRB Chemedica.
