RECREATIONAL TRAILSOur team works extensively on all aspects of trailsplanning including mountain bike strategies, iconicmulti day walk product development, trails masterplans and feasibility studies, integrated regionaltrails strategies, cycleway planning, rail trails, drivetrails as well as assessment of the economic benefitsof trail development. With increasing investment in trail infrastructureglobally, trail upgrades and new products need to becompetitive to attract visitors, make a return oninvestment and generate economic andemployment opportunities in a region. We areexperienced in planning for all the features ofsuccess — the right products, distinctive marketpositioning, quality infrastructure, support servicesand workable management and investmentarrangements. Many of our projects have been successful inattracting grant funding and we have also assisted indeveloping governance and funding models for thesustainable future of trail projects. This includesseveral million dollars in funding for mountain bikingtrails near Derby in north east Tasmania for whichTRC developed a feasibility assessment and conceptplan in 2013 and a significant mountain bikeadventure trail in Central Australia.

This remains the mainstay ofmuch of our work. We are passionate about theprotection of the world’s natural and culturalheritage; planning for quality, sustainable visitorexperiences in these special places; and assistingcommunities to benefit from protected areas. The TRC team has a long history of workingalongside park managers and communitystakeholders to provide effective, best practiceplanning, management, recreation and businesssolutions. INDIGENOUS TOURISM, PLANNINGAND BUSINESS SUPPORTWe work extensively with indigenous communities inplanning for tourism enterprises and assisting in bringingthem to fruition. We also work with indigenouscommunities in park planning and the development ofjoint management plans and partnership approaches. TRC recognises that for many Indigenous communities andgroups management of their traditional country anddevelopment of indigenous tourism and other enterprisesare central to their cultural, social and economicwellbeing. We have worked with many Indigenouscommunities and groups across Australia, New Zealand,the Pacific and Asia to assist them to realise theiraspirations, develop workable solutions and extend theirmanagement and business capacities. When working with Indigenous communities we take apartnership approach that respects their culture anddecision making processes. We work interactively withIndigenous clients to build relationships and developrealistic yet creative solutions that they and theircommunity support. Throughout a project we involveIndigenous stakeholders in making decisions and buildingtheir understanding and capacity to deliver the desiredoutcomes. We aim to include measures for mentoring,training and other capacity building to achieve sustainableongoing outcomes. In Australia TRC has been involved in assisting AboriginalTraditional Owners plan for and benefit from parks andprotected areas on Aboriginal land and marine areas.
