ITINERARYDay oneInternational flight from Dublin to Delhi

Day twoArrive in Delhi, transfer to hotel spend the afternoon exploring then board overnight train to Hardiwar

Day threeFrom Hardiwar we drive north through the rugged country of the Garhwal Himalaya along the Alaknanda River. We arrive in Ghat in the evening where the trek will begin the next day. We set up camp for the night.

ITINERARYDay fourToday our trek begins. We follow a trail along the river in the morning and then begin a steeper climb into the hills. We camp near the village of Ramni.

Day fiveOur trail begins to climb upwards, we pass many tributary rivers and waterfalls including one which we can shower in! Today we get our first view of Kuari Pass.

Day sixFrom Sem Kharak we descend to the suspension bridge over the Birthi Ganga and then climb up again to the village of Pana were we camp overnight.

ITINERARYDay seven This morning we come close to the foot of the Kuari Pass. The trail comes out above the tree line and goes through grazing grounds into meadow country to reach Dhakwani.

Day eightThe trail is steep up to Kuari pass. It takes 2-3 hours to get there but once we reach the pass the views are breathtaking.

Day nineThe last day trekking is all downhill until we reach Tapovan. We then drive to our hotel in Pipalkoti and enjoy a celebratory dinner.

ITINERARYDay tenAfter an early breakfast we drive for 8 hours until we reach our beautiful river camp on the banks of the Ganges.

Day elevenThis morning we have the option of white water rafting in great class III & IV rapids. We then head to Rishikesh for lunch and to join in with the colourful Diwali celebrations before boarding our train for Delhi.

WHAT TO EXPECT

• A physically demanding challenge Ascents & descents on occasions will be steep and exposed

Continued activity for up to 8 hours a day

• Varied temperatures & terrain Temperatures between 20 - 30°C & will drop to below freezing at night

• Camping (twinshare)

• Limited washing facilities

TRAINING

• Walking is the best way to train – think in time rather than distance - build up the mileage steadily

• Be able to walk for up to 7 hours a day on consecutive days

• Train in the mountains or hills, important to prepare your muscles for lots of upward walking

• Cross train to improve fitness and avoid boredom

• Closer to the trek leave whole weekends free for long training walks, then taper in the lead up the to trek

• Training guide provided by Earth’s Edge
