Trend Report

How do we define trends? For the purposes of this report, the term ‘trend’ has been used to refer to any tactic, theme or style that manifests itself in two or more advertising, branding or marketing ventures.

Let’s get

started...

1. Going NaturalTaco Bell, Panera Bread and several other national chains are implementing measures that will remove all artificial ingredients from their menus within the next few years. The trend can be credited in part to Chipotle, which became the first American fast food chain to voluntarily list GMOs on their menus before announcing the removal of all artifical additives from their recipes.

Chipotle - Whole Or Nothing campaign

2. Conversation StartersBecause word-of-mouth prevails in the current market (and good conversation drives an increase in compensation), brands are using their influence to help spark conversations surrounding important contemporary issues.

Procter & Gamble - #LikeAGirl campaign

Telemetro Reporta - Tweeting Pothole campaign

3. Emoji MadnessA new wave of creative energy in advertising is bringing Emojis into the public sphere in the form of press releases and Anti-Drug billboards. Advertisers who take this route succeed in reaching a millennial-heavy audience, delivering them content that is both clever and highly shareable.

Above The Influence - #WeGotYou campaign

General Motors - Emoji press release

4. 10 Seconds or lessIn the wake of Snapchat’s rise to center-stage as the Millennial go-to social network, some brands have succeeded in finding creative ways to promote their wares and communicate brand values through the popular social media platform.

Grubhub - Snapchat-exclusive discount code

World Wildlife Fund - #LastSelfie campaign

5. Isolated MotionIn a digital playing field saturated with image-centric content providers (Instagram, Pinterest etc...) cinemagraphs, or hi-definition photos with moving components, have finally burst into the realm of mainstream promotional content.

A&E Networks - Bates Motel promo

Gilt Groupe - #GiltxKSNY promo

Happy trending!
