One is a financial pledge and for us United Methodists charge conference. Charge Conference is about much more than receiving reports and setting goals. The purpose for both is to help a congregation assess and plan for ministry that contributes to the growth of Disciples of Jesus Christ. Thus it is appropriate to come together to dedicate the work together to God’s glory, and to prayerfully enter into planned ministry for the coming year. So it is more about forms and setting a spending plan for the upcoming year. Our charge conference will be at 1st United Methodist in Ft. Madison at 2pm Sunday December 4th. With winter coming soon I think of those who have no warm bed or a warm meal. One of our outreach ministries is to serve a delicious meal made by our own at God’s way. I recall asking some of the folks who receive a meal from God’s way what they would do if that meal was not provided for them. Many suggested that they would most likely go without. I would encourage all of us to keep this in mind especially during those cold nights. At the end of December and beginning in January we will be turning our attention to statistical reports. One of the averages we turn in is our worship attendance. Since 2014 our worship attendance has consistently been below 100. We are unique in that most congregations below an average worship attendance of 120 do not have a full-time pastor. We are not unique in that as most churches in our conference are in some state of decline. Your ad council, finance and staff parish relations committees especially, will be discerning what we need to do to address this. All your committees are doing the best that they can to provide opportunities for ministry and keep the building in good order and should be commended for their work. In the meantime we are full steam ahead for our charge conference. I would invite everyone to continue to engage in your ministry of invitation, hospitality and giving. UMW NEWS “Thank You” to everyone who helped with this fall’s Rummage Sale in the giving of your time, talents, abilities, skills and material items that were in such good usable condition right off the rack or table and the baked goods that were goof to see and eat. The sale grossed over $2,100 including $300 for the baked goods. A special “Thank You” goes to those who came to set up, take down and clean up. (Those tables, chairs and full boxes, etc. are so heavy to be moved and taken down and the Fellowship Hall returned to its former order—-all so quickly done: Jim Acker-son, Chuck Baugher, Glen Fugate, Paul Gaylord, Marc Johnson, Jim Leyda, Marlin Mangels, Paul Townsend, Lar-ry Baggett and Mike Krebill and Boy Scouts, leaders and parents of Troop #43.
The decision was made at St. Paul UCC to discontinue Keo-Kids for the rest of the 2016-2017 school year. “Thank You” to all who helped provide nutritional snacks for this program since its beginning. Your (our) support over the years was greatly appreciated.
Thank You to Helen Ackerson for speaking on the 2017 UMW Reading Program and Nadine Lindner and Bev Merritt for hosting the October Unit Meeting. More Reading books will arrive throughout the year through the inter-library loan program of the Public Library that will need returning within the month it arrives (please return to Car-ol Nelson when you have completed reading each of these books. We can always purchase more when readers feel they (it) will make a good addition to the church’s library collection.
Sat., Nov. 5th your donations for this year’s Thanksgiving Ingathering will be taken to UWC, Mt. Pleasant around 8:00 A.M. Call Sally Tedrow or Carol Nelson if you would like to help with the transport and see and learn of some of the mission work that is being done by the United Methodist Church in numerous places throughout the world. We plan to return to the church around noon.
Sat., Nov. 12th, 9:00 A.M. are the date and time for this year’s Mission Day (Retreat) presented by the District to enable more members to briefly experience one of the studies presented at this year’s Mission U (aka: School of Christian Mission). The Retreat is in Eldridge, IA United Methodist Church in the NW area of our SE Iowa District (9 miles N of Davenport) making it about a 2-hour drive. The overview of the study on “The Bible and Human Sex-uality” will be given by Mary Kathryn Pierce, an IL elder who taught the course for the IL Conf. this summer. Reg-istration for the Retreat Day is by Nov. 7th. Call Carol Nelson (524-3125) if you’d like to go. We should leave by 6:30 A.M. and return by 6:30 P.M. Lunch is $8.00 when you register in Eldridge.
Wed., Nov. 16th, 9:30 A.M. UMW will meet in Fellowship Hall for the Unit Meeting. Being Nov., the program will be, “World Thank Offering” given by Martha Kirchner, Lyn Dorothy and Joan Brown will serve as co-hostesses. Everyone attending is asked to bring 2 offerings to non-perishable food (canned, boxed or sacked) that will be given to Limited Resources that day.

October 2016 Dear TUMC Friends and Family, Thank you for being a partner in the ministry of Trinity United Methodist Church! Your on-going fi-nancial contributions are making a difference in the lives of many people. While receiving your own unconditional welcome at the Table you have discovered the joy of giving in faithful response. One of the vital new ways we are reaching out into our neighborhood is through our website, social media presence, local radio broadcasts and housing a community day care facility! That is just some of the ways in which we do creative ministry and mission. Each month our church serves meals at God’s Way and playing host to groups such as Cub/Boy Scouts, and Weight Watchers are some of the real ways in which we are changing lives. We are, as Jesus did in his earthly ministry, “turning the world up-side down” bringing wholeness to lives that are broken - bringing hope in the place of despair. This is the power of the Gospel message! The practice of generosity is a faith discipline. It is the mark of a growing faith and deeper walk with Christ. We ask you to join us in our ministry of giving by completing a pledge card for the year 2017. 2017 will be another challenging year with a weekly need of $4205.00 a $53 increase from 2016 to meet all our expenses. CONGREGATIONAL DINNER There will be a carry-in luncheon on November 6th following the 10:15 a.m. worship service. A sign-up sheet will be circulated soon. From the Education Department:
Christmas is just around the corner and we are mak-
ing plans. Our Children’s Christmas Program will be
Sunday, December 18th during the 10:15 worship
service. Please mark your calendar! We want as
many children to be involved as possible. Christmas
is a time of celebrating the birth of our dear savior.
The children will be practicing immediately following
the worship Service for about 30 minutes each Sun-
day, beginning November 6th. We will meet in the
Youth room. “New Star” is the name of our program.
Please join us! If you know of a child who is un-
churched and would like to share in this inspiring
time of the year, please let the Education Committee
know. No one will have to memorize their part.
Please encourage all children to participate, as this
is a way of celebrating our Saviors birth!
Keep the good or gently used books coming in. We
have made a commitment to pledge 1500 books to
give out!! Your help in donating children’s books is
greatly appreciated!

WORSHIP COMMITTEE
This year we will continue with our Christmas Eve
service of CANDLES and COMMUNION! We will have a
SINGLE service at 10:15am on Christmas Day in the
sanctuary!
We are always looking for folks to help our worship
committee by being on the committee and/or serving
as ushers! See Bob Dorothy
OUTREACH COMMITTEE Old/New Business Kris Payne updated the 2016 Outreach Funds and Ex-penditures. She noted the current balance as $1,145.82. The balance includes $250.00 to First Christian Church for the approved half of VBS. Sally Tedrow reported God’s Way Luncheon is Thurs-day, October 27, 2016. Tedrow requested that the committee go back to re-view possible remaining expenditures to come out of the 2016 Outreach Budget. Pastor Jeff reported that Common Grounds received a $3,000 donation from the Ministerial Association. The following items were commented on with some brief discussion: Payne would like to see the committee donate in some fash-ion to the Hope Center Christmas Project; the donation to the Kies’ mission was made directly from the Mar-lett Fund; no request was received from Sun Valley; the past UMCOR donation was made for local flood-ing; Women at the Well should be sending a letter; monies came from elsewhere for the adopted family; Inquiry was made to Pastor Jeff as to how much mon-ies were remaining in the Pastor’s discretionary fund; no request has been received for the Fire Safety Pro-gram; and approximately $90 will be needed for Loaves and Fishes. Payne presented several household and hygiene items collected by her Sunday school class for Tedrow to present to God’s Way for their door prize drawings. Payne reported the collection of these items will con-tinue by her class. The health kits for Ingathering will be organized and items yet needed assessed following the last service on Sunday, October 30th, and on Wednesday, November 2nd the kits will be assembled. Tedrow reported that there are plenty of toothbrushes, reported that UMW has donated some school bags which also need to be looked over. Requests for Donations—None presented. Inquiry was made if we will have the same adopted family in the coming year by Symmonds. Payne said she will work on getting a new adopted family. Out-reach usually does something for Thanksgiving for the adopted family, and a gift card will most likely be what is done this year. Next meeting is Monday, November 21, 2016 at 4 p.m..
