TRENDS OF ASTANA TRANSPORT COMPLEX

DEVELOPMENT

Astana is a modern city, which attracts tourists and is comfortable for living of

residents and guests of the capital of Kazakhstan. To date, the population of the city is

about one million and it continues to grow. The number of vehicles increases with the

growth of the population. This is due not only to an increase in living standards, but also

the trend to the rapid development of the population mobility. Previously, people used

public transport more often and lived in close proximity to the work place, and in the

current situation, people increasingly use private transport living far away from the city`s

downtown areas.

In order to provide qualitative management of the transport complex, “Astana LRT”

LLP, a management transport company, was established in April 2011, which was set atask of modernization and operational management of the city transport system.

Dear colleagues,

On September 26-27, 2016, the International Association of Public Transport

(UITP) and “Astana LR” LLP with the support of the Mayor`s office of Astana will

conduct in Astana the first conference “Development trend of the Astana

transport complex”.

This conference will be the platform for discussing the development vectors

of the dynamically growing transport complex of Astana. Currently, a transport

revolution has been carrying out in our capital. In recent years the following

projects were implemented and are planned for implementation:

construction of light rail transit (LRT)

renovation of rolling stock (City Bus – 1, City Bus – 2 and City Bus - 3)

Implementation of the electronic fare collection system

establishment of the transport control system (TCS)

modernization of the public transport route network

implementation of public transport dedicated lanes (Bus Lane)

establishment of the transport expert qualification center

implementation of school transportation (School Bus)

arrangement of the city taxi service (City Taxi)

construction of bus terminals and bus stations for suburban and intercity

transportation

installation of covered bus stop pavilions (heated bus stops)

management of Astana parking space

Our conference “Development trend of the Astana transport complex” is a

unique opportunity to get acquainted with transport development vectors of

modern cities and hold common discussions of topical issues of concern for

transport enterprises of developing cities.

International Association of Public Transport (UITP) we would like to thank

Astana transport complex”. We are confident that this conference will become a

platform for developing international cooperation not only for Astana, but also for

a number of cities in the Eurasian region.
