TRANSFER CREDIT OVERVIEW

What is Transfer Credit?

Transfer Credit Assessment Process

There is no need to apply for transfer

credit assessment at Trent University.

Applicants who have previously

attended a post-secondary institution

are automatically evaluated for transfer

credits. If you receive an Offer of

Admission, the results of your transfer

credit pre-evaluation will be posted on

your myTrent portal account:

trentu.ca/mytrent

You will be notified by email if course

syllabi from previous post-secondary

institutions are required for transfer

credit assessment. Assessments

take two to four weeks after syllabi

are submitted.

Transfer credit refers to courses taken at one institution that are credited toward a

degree or diploma at another institution. Up to 10 transfer credits may be applied

towards your degree at Trent University.

There are three types of credits at Trent University:

1. Assigned Credits

An assigned credit is granted when the content of a course at another university or

college is considered an exact equivalent to a course at Trent University.

2. Unassigned Departmental Credits

An unassigned departmental credit is granted when the the course materials from

another university or college is comparable with the subject material in a discipline at

Trent University, but for which there is not an equivalent course.

3. Unassigned General Credits

An unassigned general credit is granted

when the subject of the course is not taught

at Trent University.

Note: All transfer credits are recorded as a

“pass” grade. Numerical grades are not entered

on the student record.
