From the East
Fraternal Greetings Brethren,
4
Here we are in the fall and have just completed our annual Venice Sun Fiesta. I would like to thank all the craft who supported this fund raising effort. It was a lot of work accom-plished by a few, but I thank everyone again who made the effort and assisted to make this a success, Without the craft’s help it would not have been possible!
During our stated communication on October 19th 2015, we held our dinner and Lodge Military Appreciation Night. I asked members who had been in the military to show up, if they could, in their respected military uniforms. The craft stepped up and made every effort to be in their military uniforms. Thanks to W:. Lou Ortt for his wonderful Flag Ceremony which set the evening off. The dinner provided by Lady Deb Sims was wonderful and enjoyed by all! Thank you Lady Deb for your tremendous dinners.
On the same evening it was my honor to present a Widow’s Pin to Lady Roleen Lewis, wife of our departed esteemed member Br. John Lewis who gave so much to Venice Lodge No. 301. Please keep Roleen in your hearts and prayers during this time of mourning.
Thank you to R:.W:. Rodger Craig, Br. Walt Milne, and JW Scott Steelman who assisted R:.W:. Craig in performing a requested funeral service for Br. Rex Raymond Stoddart, a 65 year member of Orion Lodge No. 40, in Chipley, FL. The brethren mentioned stepped up, as unfortunately myself, W:. Ortt and several other craft members had duties at Scottish Rite in Tampa, as part of the Scottish Rite Reunion.
Please see our calendar for other events and venues. Keep all our sick and distress breth-ren in your prayers.
I have had a special request from R:.W:. Jeffers to assist with a Child ID Program on Friday November 13th at 8am being held at Venice-Nokomis United Methodist Church at 208 Palm Ave., Nokomis, FL 34275. If we have any members available to help on that day, please contact me via email [email protected]. This is a great program, and your help would be appreciated.
Remember brethren, we are back to our full schedule of stated meetings on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the Month. Our next meeting will be November 2nd at 7:30 pm, and the Dinner meeting will be November 16th with Dinner at 6:00pm and Stated Communication at 7:30pm. Hope to see a good attendance at both meetings.
Additionally, during our meeting on the 16th of November, the Shrine Past Masters Unit will be visiting. Let’s all give them a big welcome. We have three members in our lodge who belong to the Shrine Past Masters Unit.
Fraternally,
W:. M:. Derek Lynn Worshipful Master

Brethren,
5
I hope everyone had a great summer. Now, we are in the fall and our northern
brothers return to share fraternalship in our lodge. Welcome back brethren.
I will unfortunately miss our 1st meeting in November as I will be out of the
country, but rest assured I will be returning for the 3rd Monday meeting. Those who
were unable to be on the sideline on October 19th missed our tribute to our military
members but those that did attend welcomed our military members with appreciation
and warm hearts. Thank you for your service brothers.
The Venice Sun Fiesta, traditionally the biggest fundraiser for Venice Lodge
each year, was supported by some members of the craft. I thank them and you all
know who you are, you made this fundraiser a success. We all had a great time at the
Sun Fiesta, and had lot of questions on joining Freemasonry.
Remember, those interested in ordering shirts please contact me at:
[email protected] or 941-716-2898.
Finally, any brother interested in teaching catechism please contact the Wor-
shipful Master or myself.
Fraternally,
Mark R Baltimore SW

Brethren,
Happy Thanksgiving all!! Hard to believe it’s here already. The year is flying by.
Welcome back to all of our Northern brothers and their families. Chef Deb is preparing a
great tune-up for your traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Please come out and join us.
Our dinner falls on a very special day in our country, Veterans Day. Let us remem-
ber all of our Military families who are currently protecting our great country along with
those who have served and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for us all.
This month’s charity is in honor of our Nation’s veterans and their families interred
at Sarasota National Cemetery. There are nearly 11,000 headstones at the cemetery and the
goal is to place a wreath at each headstone. This goal has been met since the inception of
the program and it is a beautiful sight to behold. Our contribution will be greatly appreciat-
ed.
Our next family dinner will be held at the Lodge on Monday, November 16th, start-
ing at 6:00 pm. See you in the Lodge for some great food and equally great fellowship.
Fraternally,
Scott D. Steelman, Junior Warden

ANCIENT MASONS
"Ancient Masons," was the name assumed by a body of Masons who, in 1738
seceded from the regular or legal Grand Lodge of England. They did this be-
cause of changes the Institution made on the ritual work.
The Ancients called themselves "Ancient Free and Accepted Masons" and were
the new Lodges. They practiced the old ritual work and condemned the
Moderns, as they called them, for changes made in that work. The Moderns,
were called "Free and Accepted Masons" and were the old Lodges of England.
They adopted the new style of ritual work formed by Anderson, Preston, and
others.
These differences kept the two bodies apart to the extreme, that there would be
both in the same community and sometimes, side by side. They would claim
the same jurisdiction and argue over who was right and who was clandestine.
In 1813 the two bodies resolved their differences and joined hands, but the
Lodges were spread throughout the world, and particularly in America. They
turned out to be impossible to align. Both are recognized by the Grand Lodge
of England and both have the same rights and benefits which are accorded a le-
gal Lodge of Master Masons. Although you will find the different Lodges in
United States their jurisdictions are limited to each state. This is why we have:
Ancient Free and Accepted Masons
Ancient Free Masons
Free and Accepted Masons
And on and on.

Brethren:
Sales of the Florida Masonic Tag have, to date, been less than the State requires in
order to continue offering a specialty tag. Please support the effort to raise much
needed funds for the Masonic Home by purchasing a Florida Masonic License Tag
when it is time to renew. It is only an extra $25.00! Choosing the Masonic Tag will
ensure this tag remains available for us to show our support of the Craft as well as
the Masonic Home.
