  • interest users pin clips from the internet onto boards on the website. They are then able to share the boards with all Pinterest users. There is a plug-in that users can download to pin anything from the web onto their boards. Because of all of this, Pinterest has billions of ideas just waiti ng to be found by users. So why not use it to plan a wedding? Pinterest has a secti on dedicated to weddings, and there are tons of ways you can use it for yours.

Now-a-days everything is themed, and Pinterest is no di erent with millions of ideas for themes and color schemes for weddings. You can find anything from Batman-themed receptions to rustic themed weddings, and everything in between. There are also tons of themes for wedding showers. The best part is that you can even nd pins with ideas for the smallest details to really help support your theme and color scheme.

This is probably every womans favorite part of Pinterest. Well, this or the engagement and wedding rings. Finding ideas for the perfect wedding dress couldnt be easier than on Pinterest. Designers, shops, bouti ques and bridal magazines can easily be found by just browsing through the wedding secti on of the site. I found dress inspirati on, what I liked and didnt like. That made dress shopping much easier, and I found The One the second ti me I went dress shopping, said Courtney Rausch, who is using Pinterest to nd ideas for her July wedding. Finding the inspirati on for a dress potenti ally makes dress shopping a breeze. You can find the idea of what you want on the site, print a photo and take it to a local bridal shop. There, they can help you nd something that matches your taste. Its much easier to show someone what you want than try to explain it.

It is important to remember that you may nd the one, the perfect dress on Pinterest, but you might not be able to nd it in a store. Pinterest compiles years worth of informati on on the website, so some styles found could possibly be from last season, therefore unavailable. Its important to keep that in mind as you browse. You can also nd really great accessories to go with your dress such as a perfect necklace, ring or bracelet to really make your dress pop. And you can nd them cheap. I have found a lot of resale websites for wedding stu , including dresses. I even got a Swarovski necklace for only 50 bucks, said Kylie Tyler, who was recently married to her Marine husband, and is planning a wedding that her friends and family can att end.

  • Its no secret that weddings arent cheap. But there are an insane amount of ideas to help you keep your wedding within your budget. Pinterest is known for starting a DIY and craft craze, so get on and find ways to make your dcor yourself! There are tutorials for everything on the site: how to make table runners, customized tablecloths, favors for guests and everything in between. This could potenti ally knock your spending down for the small things and allow you to spend more on the big things. I made some of my dcor that I was not as concerned about, so I could save money for the things I wanted to spend more on. I made my own table runners to put the extra money towards my dress, honeymoon and rings, said Rausch.

Renti ng decorati ons is expensive. Centerpieces alone can cost you a pretty penny and take away from the bigger things, like your dress or your honeymoon. These are things you can easily make yourself, and for much less money than a rental company is going to charge you to rent them. Its been extremely e ecti ve for me. Its like the do-it-yourself wedding planner. I know that its not in the budget for me to have a wedding planner, so having a website that provides everything in one place is the perfect way for me to have creati ve planning on a lower budget, said Tyler.

Getti ng engaged is one of the best feelings in the world. Youre getti ng married! Youve found the person that youre going to spend the rest of your life with! Then it hits you. Who is supposed to pay for what? How much is this going to cost me? Where do I begin on this wedding stu !? Have no fear. Pinterest is here. And this is probably the most interesti ng and helpful part of the website: there are a ton of di erent detailed lists of how to plan what and when, and who should be responsible for paying for what.

Two of the most popular pins for weddings are a wedding planning binder and a great ti meline for planning. The binder keeps you organized, and the ti meline tells you when you should be getti ng into speci cs, like sending save-the-dates or invites. Im not using a wedding planner, but I am using weddingbee.com, which I found from a Pinterest link, said Rausch.

There are also a ton of litt le wedding gift ideas too; litt le kits to give your bridesmaids, things to give your groomsmen and favors to hand out to guests. There is even a pin circulati ng of a toolbox to keep with you on the big day that has important things like Advil, a sewing kit, bobby pins and much more.

Whether youre using it to gather ideas or want to plan your enti re wedding, Pinterest is the perfect one-stop shop for everything wedding. The easy-to-use website has millions of ideas to make your day perfect. You can even nd links to other websites that help you plan it all out. Lauren VanCleve

  • Groom 1: Devin Lane, a USI graduate who lives with his wife and three wonderful children, is desperately trying to explain away the inexcusable burden he placed on his perfect wife, Nelly. I quickly realized that nothing I tried to do to help was good enough, so I gave up, he laments. True, it was only the second day of planning, but I put so much ti me and e ort into that rst day at least 45 minutes. I was simply worn-out. Lane tearfully recounts the moment when Nelly shot down his suggesti on of hiring Ozzy Osbourne to play at the wedding. She knew how much it meant to me Ulti mate Sin is my favorite album of all-ti me. It has Shot in the Dark on it. Aft er that, my will was broken. It was 8:45 p.m., and we had been hammering away since 8 p.m. Im only human.

Groom 2: Anthony Bacon is a Butler graduate whose English degree and command of language sti ll failed to assist him in forming the questi on, Can I help you with the unenviable and incredibly ti me-consuming task of planning our wedding? wants to make something clear: he had a bad case of dry-mouth. The planning of my wedding coincided with the onset of winter, and there was litt le moisture in the air. Ive always been sensiti ve to the change of season, Bacon explains. Sti ll, he does acknowledge that he could have done more to help his radiant wife, Sherry. I probably could have sipped water throughout each day maybe tea or something, he admits. But hindsight is always 20/20. I just never imagined that my inability to speak would have such consequences.

Groom 3: Jim Stowe, a fanati cal Syracuse Orangemen supporter, apparently couldnt be troubled to support his darling wife Ren, during the planning of their Big Day. Thats not enti rely true, Stowe contends. I nodded my head a lot. I may not have lift ed a nger to help plan the recepti on, the wedding or the honeymoon, but I did nod my head at the appropriate ti mesmostly. This is where Stowes story takes a tragic turn. At one point, Ren asked if I thought chicken would make a bett er recepti on entre than steak. Insti ncti vely, I nodded. That decision has haunted me to this day. I dont even like chicken. Regret sti ll etched on his face all these years later, Stowe hopes that other grooms-to-be can learn from his mistake. You only get one shot at watching your wife-to-be ti relessly plan your wedding. Dont screw it up. Thomas Ellis

The image of a psychoti c bride-to-be breaking down in front of the camera as her perfect wedding plans go up in

ames makes for gripping, if not quality, television.

The above accounts may have been exaggerated.

o much so, that shows like We TVs Bridezillas and TLCs Along for the Bride command big rati ngs every season. Even with the decline in marriage rates, weddings are sti ll big business and theres seemingly no bigger business than a volati le bride-to-be.

But of course, it takes two to tango. Lost in this whole equati on is the (in)signi cant other: the litt le discussed, camera-shy groom-to-be. Are men just enti rely passive? Are we simply happy to let the love of our life do all the work, driving them to emoti onal meltdown and physical exhausti on while we stare at the television? To address these controversial questi ons, I sought the counsel of three local 42-year-old men who dared to defend their lack of involvement in planning the Big Day. The names have been changed to protect the lazy.

Summer is perfect. All of the kids are out of school, its vacati on weather ti me. You could plan your wedding around a few of the holidays that would allow for your friends and family to take o work for an extended period of ti me to enjoy your wedding. But, this is the Midwest. And the Midwest is known for its insane humidity. How will you ever tame your frizzy hair? Perhaps a double layer of hairspray and super kerati n treatments prior to the wedding?

Forget humidity, you can always batt le that! But, oh, its usually around 100+ degrees in the summer, especially in the later summer months, when we have our hott est of heat waves. Well, forget that outdoor wedding. You can just have it somewhere nice, inside and air-conditi oned.

    Spring

    Summer

Ah, spring. The owers are blooming. Everything is coming back to life aft er the gloomy winter, the perfect setti ng for your wedding. The temperature is usually ideal, aft er all. Its not too hot and not too cold. You could have a beauti ful outdoor wedding! And did I menti on how beauti ful everything is when its blooming? Oh, but wait. Youre allergic to everything thats blooming. So is half of your family. But that can be xed

with a simple allergy medicine regimen, right? Perhaps you could use a few doses of over-the-counter medicine or a few shots from your allergist? Now, back to how beauti ful spring is With its sudden and oft en unpredictable rain storms. There is nothing like a terrible storm to ruin your beauti ful, perfect day. Forget any outdoor photos or your outdoor wedding for that matt er, its a monsoon out there.

  • Tri-State Bride 2013 www.TriStateBride.me 17

Every season has its pros and cons. Its up to you to decide which of those pros out-weight the cons and vise versa. Its no secret that nothing is perfect, so your wedding, gasp! It may have some flaws. But thats okay. Thats how memories are made. So pick your favorite season, pick where you want your wedding and leave it up to your guests to fend for themselves when you choose Millennium Park in Chicago in the dead of winter. Its so beautiful; and they can ice skate outdoors! Or, when you choose the Roofless Church in New Harmony in August. Just hand out some personal fans. Lauren VanCleve

Oh, fall. Its beautiful, especially in this area. The leaves change colors and, oh man, are they beautiful. You could possibly venture up to the beautiful Brown County for your wedding and show everyone how amazing Indiana is in the fall? And lets not forget the temperature. Oh, my. Its perfect. Nice, cool weather and a break from the summer heat. Another great opportunity for an outdoor wedding! And those gorgeous leaves would not only make for the perfect wedding backdrop, they would make for perfect wedding photos.

But, oh yeah, you have those allergies. And your fall allergies arent kidding around. But like I said nothing that a few trips to the pharmacy cant fix, right? Ah, but sometimes for no reason at all, the weather plays a nice little trick on you. It becomes unpredictable; sometimes its really hot, sometimes its freezing cold. Sometimes, it decides to rain all of the sudden, like fall thinks its spring or something. But the leaves!

For obvious reasons, Im a little biased when it comes to winter. Especially winters in the Tri-State area. However, this winter has given me the ability to be a little less biased, as its been relatively warm and lacking in super gloomy days. So, winter. Imagine this: you pull up to your wedding with the perfect snowfall coming from the sky. It looks like something straight out of a movie, those big, puffy snowflakes falling gracefully onto the ground. There are no footprints or yellow snow spots, just the perfect setting for your wedding.

Okay, but lets be serious about the snow in this area. Its slushy at best. Its usually gray within a few hours of it falling, and it lasts about two hours before it turns the grass into mush. So forget the snow, you dont want snow. Imagine a Christmas-themed wedding. So beautiful, with poinsettias as your flowers. Perfect! Except, half of your family is Jewish and your sister hates the idea of you stealing Christmas and making it all about you, and

  • ow is the ti me to make an appointment with the vendors you will use to complete your dream wedding and recepti on. You, your anc and family will have many decisions to make: the dress, ceremony and recepti on venues, event

rental services company, caterer, oral designer, music and everything in between. At this ti me, always keep in mind your budget for each vendor. Ceremonies are planned both indoors and outdoors. If you desire an outdoor ceremony, it is very important to have a Plan B in case of inclement weather. This could be a church or building close to the original site. Unfortunately, you cannot call your rental company on the wedding day expecti ng a tent to be erected. The equipment is available, but a crew to set up the tent usually is not. At T.R.U. Event Rental, Inc. the rain call must be made the Wednesday before the Saturday outdoor ceremony. Make an appointment to visit their large remodeled Display Room. You will have their complete att enti on to every

detail on your list including items that may have slipped your mind. Their brides have hands-on experience and will be able to visualize what each table and area will look like. T.R.U. Event Rental uti lizes the PartyCad program, which allows you to see what will and will not t in your chosen facility or tent. Tent Rental Unlimited started in 1988 with four tents in a one-car garage. As their family business expanded to provide a wider array of products and services, the name was changed in 1997 to T.R.U. Event Rental, Inc., and today they have over 85,000 square feet of warehouse, showroom and o ce area to bett er serve our clients. T.R.U. Event Rental, Inc. is a member of the American Rental Associati on and Industrial Fabrics Associati on Internati onal, Tent Rental Division. Membership in these organizati ons allows the company to provide their clients in the Tri-State with innovati ve products, techniques and the latest trends in the industry. Karen LaMond

  • hen searching for a reception site, look beyond decorating possibilities and whether there is space for a dance floor. Does it come with an approved list of caterers? Many local facilities,

like Evansvilles historic Victory Theatre, have an executive chef or in-house caterer you will work with when planning your menu. At the Victory, Executive Chef Ismael Aguilar offers an extensive menu with both fine dining and casual buffet options. He can also accommodate personal requests. Is the site equipped for your wants? Is there a kitchen on site or will food need to be cooked in advance and transported? If you are holding the reception at an outdoor or rustic chic location, you will want to adjust your menu accordingly. Once you have settled on your reception site, you will want to meet with your selected caterer. He or she should have a list of questions that will ultimately help your Big Day flow as smoothly as possible. Among the things the caterer will take into consideration is the size of your guest list, the time of day the reception will be held, age range of the guests, any diet restrictions, whether alcohol will be served and budget guidelines. According to Shannabeth Stein, Catering Manager for the Victory Theatre, Communication is key. It helps the process tremendously if the couple sits down ahead of time to discuss specific ideas with each other. Then when they come to talk with me, we can walk through their budget, timeline and vision for the event. Stein works closely with Victory Theatre clients throughout the planning process and will provide them with a clear contract that lists service details and payment terms.

No matter what type of reception you decide to hold, your ultimate goal should be to make your guests feel welcome while expressing who you are as a couple. The right caterer will help you to do all that and

more! Call (812) 436-7050 for more information about booking your event at the Victory Theatre.

For many couples, their wedding reception will be the largest party they throw in their lifetimes. As with most parties, food and drink are a major component, perhaps only sharing the spotlight with the newly-weds themselves. With the rise in popularity of wedding-related television shows, Pinterest boards and entire blogs

devoted to the subject, todays bride and groom may be feeling overwhelmed with information. So when it comes to caterers and menu planning, where do you start?

Now comes the fun part the food! When choosing the menu for your reception there are a few guidelines to keep in mind. How formal or informal is your reception? In which season are you getting married? What are the venues capabilities? Traditionally, wedding receptions have featured multi-course, sit-down dinners or simpler self-serve buffets, but there are plenty of other options. Stein has seen a trend locally toward cocktail party receptions that serve a variety of substantial hors doeuvres. Finger foods encourage guests to mix and mingle, and they tend to be easier on your budget, she says. Sampling stations, family-style dinners or even barbecues are other possibilities. Keep in mind your own personal preferences, as well. Was your first date at a Mexican restaurant? Chef Augilar suggests serving mini tacos as an appetizer, or offer a fajitas station. Did your fianc propose while you were on vacation in Hawaii? Coconut shrimp with mango dipping sauce or fresh tropical fruit would fit the theme perfectly. Liz Carpenter

  • he also stars in her own reality television show, Brides of Beverly Hills on TLC. Renee travels the world buying and bringing to her salon the latest and most exciti ng fashions from around the world and has an impressive celebrity clientele list. Tri-State Bride caught up with Renee to get some good advice for the Midwest brides of 2013.

Tri-State Bride (TSB): What should a bride be prepared for when going gown shopping? Renee Strauss (RS): When a bride goes gown shopping she should be prepared for where the wedding will take place and some of idea of the overall look that shes trying to achieve. She should also be open-minded because a professional may suggest something she hadnt thought of.

TSB: What are the current trends in bridal gowns for

each season in 2013? RS: For a winter I like

silk sati n duchese. It is the most luxurious of bridal fabrics. For spring I like a silk-faced sati n organza. Theres a lot of body and

    bounce to the fabric. For

summer I like silk organza or tulle fabrics for the light and freshness. Theyre very prett y for summerti me. For fall I like silk ta eta and would recommend it for a year round look. Its a versati le fabric that works in all looks.

TSB: Should a bride try to match her dress to her bridesmaids and vice versa? Why or why not? RS: I like when bridesmaids dresses compliment the bridal gown. When they re ect the style it works best. If the look shes going for is romanti c, the bridesmaids need to mimic the aestheti c. They need to be a compliment to the bride and not be cookie cutt er.

TSB: What advice do you have for a bride on a budget? RS: Buy the best gown she can a ord in her price range. Decide if youre going for quality, for the fabric and what works best to make you happy .If youve got a budget sti ck to it. She can get very inexpensive accessories, like making your own veil from a craft store to achieve your look for less.

TSB: No spending limit?RS: Come to Renee Strauss! Make sure you dont leave out a detail go for the details. Buy stunning shoes, headpieces and an amazing gown. Complete your ensemble by spoiling yourself!

TSB: Any advice for the bride on looking her best for the big day? RS: By the time the big day comes I would hope that she bought the gown that she cannot wait to put on and that she

doesnt want to take o . I would hope that she has the best people helping her with her hair and makeup, or if shes

doing it all herself, that she gives herself enough time to do it to make her happy. If you feel good on the

  • resident of Bridal Warehouse Bobbie Crabtree shares that one trend brides are moving towards is choosing a parti cular dress vendor or color, and letti ng her bridesmaids choose the style that ts her body

type or personality. Also, wedding parti es seem to be getti ng larger and silver shoes are becoming a popular choice. By choosing silver footwear, brides o er their bridesmaids an opportunity to purchase a shoe that can be recycled for other formal occasions or be paired with blue jeans for a night on the town. According to Crabtree, Lace is all the rage for bridal. Lace can easily cover an enti re dress, or alternately, it may be a considered feature for just the sleeves or the neck area of the gown. Crabtree also notes the style popularity of both shoulder treatments, as well as sexy backs. Additi onally, Gone is the traditi on that a bride has to wear white. Ivory is a popular bridal gown color, while color accents on gowns have decreased in popularity. Navy and pink are additi onally becoming popular color choices for bridesmaid gowns. Brides that are looking for the less than ordinary might consider adding a fascinator to her outf it. Fascinators o er a touch of old school cool and can be worn as a hair accessory, or as a broach additi on to the dress itself. Originati ng as a head covering in the 1750s, fascinators were originally comprised of a crochet or lace scarf. The current look of a fascinator though, is a delicate accessory that can be made from any number of items ranging from feathers, owers, lace, rhinestones, Swarovski Crystals and/or pearls. It is considered an alternati ve to a traditi onal veil or headpiece.

Unfortunately not all bridal trends are joyous ones, though. Crabtree shares a word of caution when purchasing wedding atti re, With the number of counterfeit websites rising, we strongly encourage brides to be aware of who they are purchasing their gown from. More and more brides are struggling just weeks before their wedding to nd an emergency replacement gown for the designer knock-o s they purchased online from unauthorized Chinese manufacturers. While the low price may be tempti ng, you could wind up spending more on a second dress to replace the original. Always check the designers website for authorized retailers if you are concerned about purchasing online If you nd a price on the Internet that seems too good to be true, then it probably is! The quality of [a] knock-o dress is nowhere near the quality of the authenti c designer gowns. So shop carefully! Crabtree adds that Bridal Warehouse can o er you a great selecti on of recently marked down gowns to choose from, along with informal short and long gowns. They carry hundreds of styles of formal shoes and they o er the most colors in vest and ti es to match all maids gowns. Bridal Warehouse carries tuxedos in-house through Tuxedo Avenue, which o ers suits as well as tuxedoes. They have all the new tt ed tuxedoes, tt ed shirts and trousers along with all the modern t o erings. Crabtree also states that at Bridal Warehouse, brides who purchase their dress from the company become known as VIB (Very Important Brides), and the enti re store goes on sale to them. Nikki Davis
