The game will be televised regionally on the Mid-Atlanc Sports Network (MASN), while also being available naonally on ESPN3. • Monday’s contest will mark the fourth me in the last three seasons that the Tribe and Flames have met. Last season, the teams split a pair of games with each winning on the other’s home court. • W&M will face three Big South teams on the road this season, starng with the Flames on Monday night. W&M also travels to High Point and Radford. The 2012-13 campaign marks the third straight season that W&M has played three Big South opponents. • Both sophomore Marcus Thornton and senior Ma Rum average double-digits against Liberty for their careers. In two games last season, Thornton averaged 16 points per game, while Rum is near an 11-point average over three career games vs. the Flames. F13 UNCW 7 PM W&M is looking to snap a four-game losing streak to UNCW. Last season, the Seahawks edged the Tribe, 68-66, despite a 17-point and 10-rebound double-double from Tim Rusthoven.

F16 at Old Dominion 12 PM The Tribe-Monarch game in Norfolk will be televised on the Comcast family of networks (CSN-MA,CSN-P,CSN-NE,CSS).ODUleadstheall-timeseries66-16.

F18 Georgia State 7 PM Last season, the Panthers slipped past W&M, 64-60, in Williamsburg. The Green and Gold thoughleadtheall-timeseriesat7-5,includinga3-2markinWilliamsburg.

The Baltimore,Md., nativehanded out a career-high seven assists compared to just one turnover. The seven assistswerethemostforaW&MplayersinceDavidSchneiderhadeightassistsinthe2010NationalInvitational Tournament game at North Carolina. For his career, Rum ranks 10th inW&Mhistorywithanassist-to-turnover ratioof1.30. Last seasonasa junior,he led theTribe inassists with 54.

SUCCESS FROM 3 TheTribehasenjoyedsuccessfrom3-pointrangeinrecentyearsandintheprocesshasproducedthetopsixstatisticalseasonsinschoolhistoryfromlongrange.Ineachofthelastsixseasons, the College made 200 or more from long range, averaging 237 3-pointers per season. TheGreenandGoldstartedoutthe2012-13seasononahighnotefromdistance,hitting42.9percent from 3-point range and drilling nine triples. Since 2006-07, W&M leads the CAA in 3-pointers made per game at 7.49 (1431/191 games). W&M set CAA records for 3-pointers made in 2008 (257) and then again in 2010 with 295, which are the top two marks in Tribe history. W&M canned 250 3-pointers in 2011, which ranks third in program annals, followed by 218 in 2012, 202 in 2009 and 200 in 2007.

THORNTON NAMED PRESEASON ALL-CAA Sophomore Marcus Thornton was named to the preseason All-Colonial AthleticAssociationteam,theleagueannouncedatitsannualMediaDay.Thornton,whoistheTribe’stop returning scorer at 11.1 points per game, was a second-team preseason all-league choice and one of three sophomores in the CAA to earn preseason honors. Last season, Thornton earned CAA All-Rookie Team honors as he started 14 of 32 games and ranking second on the team in scoring. One of the top returning scorers in the CAA, he averagednearly 12points per game in conference action last season,while shooting39.1percent from 3-point range. His percentage from long range in CAA play ranked sixth in the league.Thorntonturnedinanumberofstellarperformances,butnonebetterthanhiscareer-high 28-point showing against eventual CAA Champion VCU on Feb. 1. Thornton was 10-of-12 fromthefloor,includinga5-of-6effortfrom3-pointrangeagainsttheRamsinWilliamsburg.He also turned in a 22-point showing at VCU on Jan. 19 and added 23 points, including 15 in thefirsthalf,atGeorgeMasononJan.2.

RUSTHOVEN’S CONSISTENCY JuniorTimRusthovenwastheTribe’smostconsistentperformerin2011-12andfinishedtheyearrankedamongtheCAAleadersinscoringandrebounding.IntheCollege’sseason-openingwinoverHampton,hecontinuedhisimpressiveplaywithacareer-high18pointstogoalongwithsevenreboundsandacareer-hightyingthreesteals.In10oftheTribe’sfinal14gamesin2012,Rusthovenscoredindoublefiguresandaveragedbetterthan11pointsandsevenreboundspergameoverthe14-gamestretch.Hefinishedtheyearranked29thintheCAA at 10.3 points per game, while ranking 11th in rebounding at 6.6 per contest. He is the firstTribeforwardsincethe2004-05seasontoaverageatleast10pointsandsixreboundspergame.RusthovenalsorankedthirdintheCAA,shooting54.5percentfromthefloor.

TRIBE EXCELS IN THE CLASSROOM Alongwith itswork on the court, themen’s hoops programdemonstratedwhy TribeAthletics personifies the term student-athlete with its efforts in the classroom. The teamenjoyedanexceptionalfallandspringsemesteracademicallyin2011-12,postingacumulativegradepointaverage(GPA)ofbetterthan3.1atthe‘PublicIvy’institution.W&Malsoplacedaleague-highsevenplayersontheCAAAll-AcademicTeam,includingthreeofitsfivestarters.Junior TimRusthovenwas a first-teamall-academic teamhonoree,while fellow classmateBrandonBrittwasasecondteamselection.SeniorDougHowardandAndrewPavloffalongwith juniorsKyleGaillardandFredHeldringwerehonorablementionchoices.Underheadcoach Tony Shaver, the Tribe has produced 25 CAA All-Academic team honorees, the most in the CAA since 2004. No other team in the league had more than two CAA All-Academic team honoreesin2012,andtheTribeplacedthreeofitsfivesstartersonthetoptwoAll-Academicteamsforthesecondtimeinthreeyears.W&Malsoputthreeofitsstartersonthetoptwoteams in 2010. DOUBLE-DIGIT TREYS The Tribe has shown a propensity in recent seasons to knock down 3-pointers in bunches. WhenTonyShaveracceptedtheheadcoachingpositionatWilliamandMaryinMay of 2003, he set his sights on making the Tribe a winning program. Fast-forward nineyearsandthetwo-timeCAACoachof theYearandNationalMid-MajorCoachoftheYearfinalisthas ledarevivaloftheGreenandGoldprogram. In2009-10,hetookW&Mtothebrinkofitsfirst-everCAAtitleandNCAATournamentappearance,while in the process leading the College to the third-most wins in school history and its second-everpostseasonbidintheNationalInvitationalTournament. Shaver completed his ninth season with the College and 26th overall in 2011-12asoneofthewinningestactivecoachesincollegebasketball.Heenters2012-13ranked25thamongactiveDivisionIheadcoachwith461victories,whileranking61stin winning percentage at .611. Shaver enters the 2012-13 season as one of only two men’sbasketballcoachesinW&Mhistorywithmorethan100careervictories(103).He claimed his 100th career win as the Tribe head coach against James Madison on Jan. 4, 2012. TheGreenandGoldbecamethefirstteamevertowinaNovembergameatJoelColiseumoverWakeForest,78-68,onNov.28andthefirstunrankednon-BCSschoolto win at the facility. The Tribe was also the only team to win at ACC regular season co-champion Maryland in 2009-10, downing the Terrapins, 83-77, on Dec. 30. W&M becamethefirstCAAteamsincetheestablishmentoftheleaguetowintwoACCroadgamesinthesameseason.TheTribealsobecamejustthesixthnon-BCSschooltowintwo ACC road games in the same season since the ACC was established in 1953. OnthestrengthofitsNo.60RPIandwinsoversixRPItop80teams(threeoverRPItop40squads),theTribeearnedabidtotheNIT,markingonlythesecondpostsea-son appearance in school history. Despite falling to North Carolina in a game televised nationally,W&Msetaschoolrecordwith163-pointersandledUNC,72-69,withjustoverthreeminutesremaininginthecontest.TheTribe’s163-pointersagainsttheTarHeelswasasignatureoftheentireW&Mseason.TheGreenandGoldhitaschoolandthen-CAArecord2953-pointersduringtheyear.TheTriberankedeighthnationallyat8.93-pointerspergame.Itmarkedthefourth-straightseasoninwhichW&Mhit200-plus 3-pointers. Along with its success on the court, Tribe players have done their work in the classroomaswellunderShaver. In2011-12,W&Mpostedacumulativeteamgradepointaverageofbetterthan3.1atoneofthetoughestacademic institutionsinthecountry.ThreeoftheTribe’sfivestarterswerenamedtotheCAAAll-Academicteamin both 2010 and 2012. The Tribe set a program and CAA record with seven CAA All-Academic Team honorees this past season. Shaverhasalsoenjoyedsuccessinrecruiting.ESPN.comandScouts,Inc.,ratedtheTribe’s2010recruitingclassofJulianBoatner,BrandonBritt,FredHeldringandTimRusthovenasoneofthetopmid-majorclassesinthecountry.ESPNandScouts,Inc.,alsolistedthequartetasthetopgroupintheCAA.TheTribe’s2011recruitingclassaddedtheprogram’sfirstGatoradeStatePlayeroftheYearinMarcusThornton,whowon the award as a senior at Bishop McNamara in Maryland. In2007-08,WilliamandMaryposteditsfirstwinningseasoninadecadefinish-ingwitha17-16ledger.Infact,itwasonlythesixthtimeinschoolhistorythataTribeteamhadwon17ormorecontests.W&Mfinishedfifthintheleagueonthestrengthofa10-8CAAledger.ItmarkedonlythesecondtimetheTribeposteddouble-digitCAAwins in a season. The program posted back-to-back 15-pluswin seasons for the first time in aquarterofacenturyin2006-07and2007-08.TheTribealsoputtogetherconsecutiveseasonswitha.500orbetterrecordforthefirsttimein23years.

Shaver was voted the 2008 CAA Coach of the Year. The Shaver-led Tribe punctu-atedthehonorbyreelingoffthree-straight last-secondwinsonitswaytotheCAAChampionshipGame.Includedintherunwasa56-54winoverregularseasoncham-pionandNo.1seedVCUinthesemifinals.W&Mwonthreeconteststogettothechampionshipgame,matchingtheprogram’svictorytotalinthetournamentfromtheprevious22years.Asaresultofthetitlegameappearance,W&Mhaditsfirst-evernationallytelevisedgameandmadeitsfirstappearanceonESPN.Shaveralsoreacheda coaching milestone of his own on December 31, 2007, winning his 400th collegiate coachinggameastheTribedefeatedFairfield,71-50,atKaplanArena. In 2006-07, Shaver earned CollegeInsider.com Colonial Athletic AssociationCoachoftheYearhonorsafterguidingtheTribetoa15-15record.ShaveralsoledhisteamtoeightwinsduringthetoughCAAportion;onlythethirdtimetheTribehadaccomplished that feat. Another telling stat of the progression of the program was the fourCAAroadvictories,highlightedbya67-63winover2006FinalFourparticipantGeorge Mason. The 2006-07 season brought about a change in styles for the 31st W&M head coach.Afterspendingmuchofhiscareercoachinganup-tempooffense, featuringatrappingdefense,Shaverswitchedovertoamoreperimeter-orientedattack.TheTribeoffensiveschemespreadsthefloorandreliesonspacing,effectiveperimetershootingandplayersreadingandreactingtoteammates’cutsandmotion. InNovember2005,ShaverwasinductedintotheEpiscopalHighSchoolHallofFame. He led EHS for 10 seasons from 1976-86. Shaver has been inducted into the Hall of Fame at both of his head coaching stops prior to taking over the reins at William and Mary. He was named to the Hampden-Sydney College Hall of Fame in 2004. There have been individual successes as well for the Green and Gold during Shaver’stenure.Onnineoccasions,aW&MplayerhasbeennamedAll-CAAunderShaver, while another seven have been named to the CAA All-Rookie Team. Adam Hess,a2004graduate,becamethefirstplayer inschoolhistorytoleadtheCAAinscoring. An outstanding student and athlete, Hess was named the CAA Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year (for all sports) and was a First-Team Academic All-American as a senior.CoreyCofieldwasvotedthe2004CAARookieoftheYear,leadingallleaguefreshmen in points and rebounds. W&MplayershavealsoenjoyedsuccessintheclassroomunderShaver,ason25 occasions a Tribe player has been named to the CAA All-Academic team over the last nine seasons. Each of the last three years (2010-12), a W&M student-athlete receivedtheCAA’sprestigiousDeanEhlersLeadershipAward.whichisgiventothestudent-athletewho “embodies the highest standards of leadership, integrity andsportsmanship in conjunctionwithhis academic athletic achievement.”David Sch-neiderwontheawardin2010,whileQuinnMcDowellbecamethefirst-evertwo-timewinnerofthehonorin2011and2012.Threetimes,aTribeplayerhasbeennamedthe CAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year (Adam Hess in 2004, David Schneider in 2008 and QuinnMcDowellin2012)underShaver.McDowellalsobecamethefirstCAAmen’sbasketballstudentathletetobenamedoneof10finalistsfortheLowe’sSeniorCLASSAwardin2012onhiswaytoLowe’sSeniorCLASSSecond-TeamAll-Americahonors. In total,eight formerW&MathleteswhoplayedunderShaverhavegoneontoprofessionalcareersoverseas.Hess is inhisfifthseason in theGermanBundes-liga, where he earned second-team all-league honors in 2007. Fellow 2004 gradu-ate Zeb Cope spent seven seasons playing professionally in Europe, including four in France. Adam Payton, a 2007 graduate of W&M, spent two seasons in France with LilleMetropoleafterplayinghisopeningprocampaigninSwitzerland.LaimisKisielius,who graduated in 2008, was an all-star and ranked among the league leaders in scor-ing and assists in Latvia in 2010, before playing last season and this year in Lithuania. Alex Smith, a 2009 W&M graduate, was a sixth round pick of the Reno Bighorns in the2010NBADevelopmentLeagueDraftandhasalsocompetedinternationallywiththePanamanianNationalTeam.2010graduatesDannySumner(Finland)andDavidSchneider (England) both signed professional contracts in Europe in 2010.
