Before you start Makecircletemplatesbydrawingaroundastickytaperollandcuttingthemout.Sharetheseandtheotherequipmentoutequallybetweenfourstationsaroundthemeetingspace.

Secret pictures

Thaumatropes are a type of optical illusion.Anillusioniswhenyourbrainseessomethingthatisn’ttrue.Whenyouspinyour thaumatrope, the two pictures are movingsofastthatyoureyesandbraincan’tseparatethem,sotheylooklikeone.

Thaumatropeishardtosay,sotrytosounditout–‘thau-ma-trope’.Haveago at creating your own!

Drawyourpictureononesideofoneofyourcardcircles,makingsure

it’sinthemiddleofthecircle.

Yourleaderwillnowtellyourgroupthesecondpicture–rememberto

keepitasecretagain.Drawthisonyoursecondcardcircleandmakesureittakesupmostoftheroomonyourcircle.

Everyonegetastraworpencil.Carefullytapeoneofyourcircles

to the top of the straw/pencil, like in pictureA.Makesureyourpictureis facingoutwards.

Takeyoursecondcircleandtapethisto your straw/pencil on the opposite

sidetoyourfirstcircle,withyourdrawingfacingoutwardsagain,asinpicturesBandC.

Whenyourgroupisdone,putyourstrawsorpencilsbetweenyourhands

andtwistthestrawasfastasyoucan.Watchasyourtwopicturesbecomeone!
