Certificates for Perfect Attendance will be handed out to students with
100% attendance on the last day of term.

anyone except parents. Children should only be collected early if it is
absolutely necessary. If your child is ill, please do not send them to school.
Subjects
The Department of Education and Skills is responsible for the education of
children in Ireland. Under the 1999 Revised Primary School Curriculum all
students will be taught the following subjects – English, Gaeilge, Maths,
SESE (Social, Scientific and Environmental Education), Music, Physical
Education, SPHE, Visual Arts and Drama. An ethics programme will also be
taught to children.
Ethics- Learn Together Programme
In Trim Educate Together we celebrate all
cultures and belief systems and none. Children
learn all about the main festivals and
celebrations e.g. Christmas, Chinese New Year,
Diwali, Ramadan etc. The belief systems are
only a small part of our programme. Other
strands include Moral & Spiritual, Equality and
Justice and Ethics and the Environment.
Homework
Homework given to Junior Infants will be given
Monday to Thursday. Homework should take
around 10 minutes to complete. Try and
encourage your child to complete their
homework when they come home from school,
as they are still in school mode.
Special Education Teaching (SET)
We welcome all children into our school. In relation to applications for the
enrolment of children with special needs, we do request a copy of the
child’s medical and/or psychological report or where such a report is not
available, to request that the child be assessed immediately. The purpose of
the assessment report is to assist the school in establishing the educational
and training needs of the child relevant to his/her difficulties or special
needs and to profile the support services required. Following the report the
school can then assess how the needs specified in the report can be met.
If you notice that your child is struggling with any aspect of schooling, let us
know. Likewise we will inform you if we have any concerns regarding your
child’s educational, physical or emotional development.
Special Education Training will be made available to all children identified as
having a need. This may be in the form of in-class support or withdrawal,
either individually or in small groups. This will be in accordance with best
practice and the needs of each individual child.
Contact Numbers/Mobile Phones
It is very important that you keep us up to date
with contact numbers in case of emergency.
Remember to let us know, if you change your
mobile or landline number or email address.
Lunches
The school day is short and we want your child
to receive the best education they can. Diet
plays a big part in your child’s behaviour. Treats
can be given outside of school time. We
promote a healthy eating policy in the school.
The following are not allowed: crisps, chocolate
bars, biscuits, cakes, sweets, fizzy drinks, high
sugar drinks, chewing gum.
An example of a healthy lunch:
Sandwiches/crackers/breadsticks/rice
cakes/yoghurts (low sugar)/cheese
Fruit-apples, oranges, grapes ,bananas, melon,
Vegetables :carrot sticks/peppers/tomatoes
As per HSE guidelines non-flavoured Water &
Milk are the recommended drinks.
Parental Involvement
We believe that parents, the school and community
working together enhance the education of our students. Parental
involvement in Trim Educate Together is encouraged, welcomed and
appreciated.
A Parent Association (PA) is in the process of being formed and will
welcome parental involvement in policy formation, fundraising and general
events in the school (such as outings, school celebrations, parents
meetings). Please sign up for the PA if you are interested in becoming a
member.
The Board of Management for Trim ETNS was appointed, for a four year
term, from 1st December 2015 to 30th November 2019.
In Trim Educate Together we want to have an “open door” policy. Parents
can meet with teachers before or after school time and also on more formal
occasions such as Parent Teacher meetings later on in the year.
Throughout the year we will be inviting parents to help us in the school and
the classroom. This gives parents a chance to play an active part in their
child’s education.
Uniform
There is no uniform in Trim Educate Together NS. We would ask that
parents would ensure that children wear suitable footwear and clothing
that allow for safe and free movement during sports activities.
Minimal jewellery such as a watch or stud earrings are permitted.
Please ensure to label all coats, jumpers
and jackets. Encourage your child to put
on and take off their coat, hats, scarves
and gloves themselves.
Velcro fastenings on footwear are ideal for
young children and promote their independence.
Common School Infectious Illnesses
It is important that we are aware of any infectious illnesses that your child
may have been diagnosed with. As per HSE guidelines, standard letters
regarding the illness will be sent home, advising parents that their child may
have been exposed to the infectious illness. All reports regarding your
child’s health will be treated confidentially and no child will be identified in
the above communication. Please just let the class teacher know in person
or by note. You can also email the office at [email protected]
if you prefer.
Examples of such illnesses, include the following: -
Chicken Pox Hand, Foot &
Mouth Disease
Head Lice/Nits Impetigo
MRSA Ringworm Rubella
(German Measles)
Scabies
Scarlet Fever Slapped Cheek
Syndrome
(Parvovirus B19)
Winter Vomiting Disease
(Norovirus)/General Gastroenteritis
Head lice are unfortunately common in all primary schools. Where possible
tie your child’s hair back. Check your child’s hair weekly. If infected please
inform the school and treat your child.
Birthday Party Invitations
We would ask parents not to send party invitations into the classroom for
distribution. In the best interests of all children, invitations should be sent
by text, email or handed out by parents to each other directly.
We greatly appreciate your co-operation with this matter.
Birthday Celebrations in the Classroom
Please refrain from sending in treats or cakes for the class to mark your
child’s birthday. Whilst of course, we know that these are sent in with the
best of intentions, we are keen to promote healthy eating within the
school. During term, a large number of class birthdays can fall within a
short period of time, which can result in lots of treats being eaten during
school time. We are also mindful that an expectation of this practice should
not be placed upon any child or their parents on the occasion of their child’s
birthday.
School Book Rental Scheme The School is operating a book rental scheme for all classes for 2018/19. At
present only English Readers will be included in this scheme for Junior
Infants. Further details are available on the book list.
All other books listed on your child’s booklist can be purchased from local
bookshops or online. We would recommend that these books are ordered
as soon as possible, to ensure that the children have them for the start of
the school year.
A copy of all class booklists will be available to download from the school
website.
Allergies/Administration of Medication
We have a duty to safeguard the health and safety of pupils. However
teachers/staff do not personally undertake the administration of
medication (e.g. inhalers, injections, application of cream).
The school requires parents to ensure that staff are made aware in
writing, of any medical condition suffered by their child. This
information should be provided at enrolment or at the development
of any medical conditions at a later date.
Where children are suffering from life threatening conditions or
allergies, parents should outline clearly in writing, what should and
should not be done in a particular emergency situation, with particular
reference to what may be a risk to the child.
