Grass Roots Talk
Good Afternoon and welcome to The Grassroots Stadium for this Spartan South
Midland Premier Division match
Today we welcome the players, officials and supporters of Oxhey Jets to Tring, and we
hope you enjoy your short stay with us. We also give a warm welcome to our match officials- Referee- Ian Stewart- and his
assistants-John Fowler & Phil Wilkinson
Today’s match is sponsored by- Dick Lovelace and we would like to thank him for his
continued generous support.
Jets are well known to us and games are usually tight affairs between our two sides.
Last Saturday we continued our fine run of form, gaining a 1-1 draw against a good
Harefield Utd side. This leaves us still top of the league but we have played more games
then anyone else but it is a nice position to be in. On Tuesday we held a friendly against Hitchen Town and competed well only losing by
the odd goal in seven.
On Tuesday we continued our great winning run which has taken us to the top of the
table.
The Reserve went down 4-1 at Wellin in The Suburban Premier. The score did not
reflect the game and after playing on some superb grounds and surfaces they were
confronted by an all weather surface at a school which may have stopped them reaching
the high standards they have set themselves so far this season. The A team continue to find their feet with a new side and manager but yet again the
younger players did themselves proud. The B Team were without a game but the under
15's bounced back with an 8-0 win against Bovingdon.
The under 18's were well beaten last week at Leverstock Green 8-1 .On Wednesday
after taking an early lead they went down 4-1 to AFC Dunstable. On Tuesday The First team travel to Stoney Stratford in The League Challenge Trophy
and next Saturday are here again against Colney Heath.
The reserves have yet two more away fixtures. Today at Biggleswade in the cup then
next week at Hampton & Richmond in the league.
The youngsters play here tomorrow and the midweek side travel to Northwood in The
Youth FA Cup on Monday evening.
Finally enjoy the game and give your support to all involved.

History of Tring Athletic: Formed in March 1958 by a group of local men who contributed app. £2,000 towards the cost of the land, fencing,
changing rooms etc .Players, Committee members and friends carried out the work while the team played on another
pitch. Originally formed for youngsters under the age of 21, the team won many trophies in the West Herts. Div. 3
including the Div. 1 title 3 times in 5 years, often playing against adult sides.
The 70’s/80’s
The Club went through a lean time and it was decided to scrap the upper age limit. Many former players returned which
resulted in another successful period in the early 1970’s.
Many fine players turned out for the Club and went on to play for professional/senior clubs. In the mid-seventies the
Club nearly folded and the ground was sold to the Council. The reserves were disbanded and the First team dropped
down through the leagues. It was decided to turn to youth again. This formula enabled the Club to work back through
the leagues and by 1986 we were competing in the Premier Div. and the reserves were resurrected. South Midlands-The 90’s.
In 1988 the Club joined The South Midlands and as a result gained Senior status with The Herts. FA
In 1989 we entered in a 3 year ground sharing agreement with Tring Town.
In 1992 the first team moved back to Miswell Lane, where the Reserves had continued to play. The side established
itself in The South Midlands and gained promotion to the newly formed Senior Div.
in 1993. In 1994/5 season, the First Team reached the final of the Senior Div. Cup While the Reserves were finalists in
the Apsley Junior Cup for the second year running.
In 1996/7 after leading the Div. for the whole season, some poor results at the end found us finishing 3rd. We also
reached the semi- final of the Herts. Charity Shield and won the St. Mary’s Cup beating 5 Senior sides including
Isthmian League Hemel Hempstead and Berkhamsted Town In 1997/8 after winning the last 14 games we lost out on
the Title on goal difference of 2. The Reserves won their league by 10 points winning every home game.
The following year we won the South Midlands Senior Div. Cup and also The St. Mary’s Cup for the second time,
defeating neighbours Tring Town in the semi-final in front of a crowd of 350, mostly Athletic supporters. In the league
after suffering just one defeat in 28 games, we finished 3rd.
The 1999/2000 season proved to be one to remember. £ 50k was spent on new changing rooms and extending the
Clubhouse and over 1000 people turned up to watch a Watford X1 refereed by Graham Barber and Graham Poll.. We
also formed a third team a Vets side and a Ladies team. The season turned out to be our most successful. Not only
winning the Senior Div. by 11 points, we also reached 5 finals. Winning The Herts. Charity Shield, Herts. Senior
Centenary Trophy and the Cherry Red Books Trophy in it’s inaugural year. We were narrowly beaten 1-0in The Senior
Div. Cup and the reached Final of the St. Mary’s Cup which was never played because of a back log of fixtures.
We were awarded the Houghton Cup for achievements in outside competitions.
The Management team were also voted Managers of the season. We lost only 6 out of 60 games all season. The
Reserves reached the Final of The Intermediate Cup and the A Team finished runners up in the West Herts. Div.
The New Millennium
We continued our success into the new one (2000/01) by retaining the Herts. Senior Centenary Trophy (again beating
Wormley Rovers 2-0) and the Cherry Red Books Trophy (Virginia Water 1-0). The Reserves won the League title and a
newly formed B Team claimed the runners-up spot. The following season (2001/02) we won the Herts. Charity Shield
for the 2nd time beating Letchworth 4-1. The A Team reached the Apsley Junior Cup final and the B Team won the
sporting award.
Season 2002/03 – More success followed as we capture the Herts. Senior Centenary Trophy for the 3rd time, to
become the first club to do so. We finished 3rd in the table and won the League Cup for the 2nd time, to make 12
major trophies in 7 years. We were also finalists in the Cherry Red Books Trophy. The A Team finished runners up as
did the Under 16's in their first season, the B Team won the sporting award for the 2nd year running and the Ladies
had a great run in the Women's FA Cup. For the 3rd year running Darrel Bodimeade won an award for the best playing
surface, which is just reward for the tremendous job he does for the club.
Season 2003/04 –Following our failure to secure floodlights at Miswell Lane we entered into an historic alliance
with Tring Town to play our first and reserve team football in season 2004/05 at Pendley where lights are already in
place. The main focus was to be to raise the funds needed to build a new Clubhouse, the previous building burnt down in
March 2003. Miswell Lane will be retained and will be used by our A, B, and Ladies sides. This new arrangement with
Tring Town secured senior level football in the town.
Season2004/05 – New season at a new ground in a new division with fantastic facilities. First team finished 6th in
the Premier Division and also won the St Mary's Cup for the 3rd time defeating Hemel Hempstead in the Final. We
were also Runners Up in the South Midlands Floodlit Cup Final losing on penalties to Oxhey Jets. Played in the F A Vase
for the first time.
Season 2005/6 –The Club entered the F A Cup for the 1st time in its history but was defeated in the prelim round.
In a disappointing season the highlight was a victory over Watford in the Herts Senior Trophy with a large crowd
enjoying a 1-0 win. Defeat in this competition came at the hands of Stevenage Borough of the Conference league
Season 2006/7-The first team finished mid table after a difficult start to the season. Went 3 rounds in the e.on
FA Cup, losing to Kings Lyn, the biggest side in the competition at that time. The events of the year however came
after the season had completed. Mick Eldridge and Ray Brimsom stepped down as first team managers after 17 years.
Ron Brimsom also after 16 years decided to hand over the reigns and our Hon. Secretary Ralph Griffiths also stood
down after 25 years in that position. A wealth of experience which thankfully will not be lost, as they are all staying on
in some capacity.
Season 2007/2008-.The new management team of Phil Casserley and Terry Nightingale ended in glory at The
County Ground, Letchworth, with the First Team lifting The Herts. Charity Shield for the 3rd time.
Season 2008/2009- A reasonable league campaign saw the first team finish in 8th position.
However in true Athletic tradition, it was in the cups in which we excelled, reaching 4 semi-finals. After being 4-2 up
with just a few minutes to go, 3 late goals meant the first one slipped away. This strengthened the resolve of the
whole team and in a remarkable last seven days of the season, three trophies were gained. Winning the League
Challenge Trophy and Premier Div. Cup for the first time and also defeating local rivals Leverstock Green to pick up the
St. Mary’s Cup for the 4th time
Ex-player, Ben Williams re-joined the club as reserve team manager mid season and will lead the side in the Suburban
League next season.
Season 2009/2010- After last season’s tremendous cup haul, this year the first team finished without a trophy.
However they finished third in the league, the highest position the club’s history so far. With the ground getting the
higher ground grading required, the management and players will be hoping to put in a challenge for the title in
2010/2011.
The B Team did pick up some silver ware winning The Stanley Rous Challenge Cup at Hemel Hempstead Town’s ground.
Season 2010/2011- The first team finished runners up in The Premier Division. They also won The St. Mary’s Cup
beating Leverstock Green in the final and reached the final of The Floodlite Cup, losing 2-0 to Royston Town
Season 2011/2012- With a new Management set up and several new faces in the First team, we were pleased to
finish in the top six and reach 3 cup semi-finals. All our sides performed well, with one of our youth sides going through
the league season undefeated. The ladies won their league and reached the final of the County Cup, losing to Arsenal
reserves.
SEASON 2012/2013 - Mixed season with the 1st team winning their initial F A Cup tie at Bedfont and then losing
in the next round to Ashford Town after a replay, in the F A Vase we lost at first hurdle to FC Romania. In the League
we finished just below half way, lost on penalties to Hadley in the semi-final of the Premier Division Cup and were
finalists in the St Mary's Cup losing to local rivals Berkhamsted. The "A" Team, under Dave Adamson and James Bevan
won the West Herts Peace Memorial Cup for the first time in the Club's history. Unfortunately the Ladies team
withdrew from their league through lack of players.
SEASON 2013/2014 -First team had a good run in The FA Vase and finished mid-table. Reserves finished runners
up on goal difference and won promotion to the Premier Division. Club purchased the Free-Hold of the ground and
second pitch to ensure future football in the town.

CLUB HISTORY
The current General Manager John Elliott founded Oxhey Jets in 1972. Playing their first season as an under 12
team in the South West Herts Youth League, having been playing friendly matches as the 2nd Oxhey Boys Brigade
team for two years before that. A winning start in the League cup final on the last game of the season saw the club
move on, and more youth sides were added to the clubs structure, with the original side moving up through the age groups. In the 1978-79 season the team having out grown youth football moved to the Watford and District men’s
Saturday league, and at the first attempt won the Division one championship without dropping a point, this
prompted an application to the Hertfordshire Senior County League, which was turned down because their home
ground was an open playing fields. We instead went into the West Herts Saturday league, and started to prepare the
old school pitch at the Chilwell Gardens site ready for another application to join the County League. Chilwell was
ready for use and the runners up spot was secured with Three matches to spare, and became the first Oxhey side in
history to win The Watford Peace Memorial Shield.
The Herts Senior County League was increased in size and Oxhey were elected into Division one in 1981 and
were promoted to the Premier division in 1983.
The Biggest change to happen to the club was in the 2000-2001 season having moved from their old Chilwell
Gardens site, to a new Two million pound complex in Altham Way (using Met Police Bushey for a season), Jets
new ground; “The Boundary Stadium” was built to almost Rymans League standard.
While the ground was being built, the First team secured there highest ever Honour, Premier Division Champions of the Hertfordshire Senior County League, and the reserves finished Champions as well. This was to be the start
of the best run the club, and County had ever seen. The following season the first team retained the Championship,
while becoming the first team to add the prestigious Aubrey cup and the Hertfordshire Senior Charity County Cup
in the same season, the Reserves also retained the championship and added the reserve cup as well to become
another first in the County league, winning the double-double. 2002-03 saw the records come tumbling again as all
were retained by the first and reserves and the Rickmansworth Charity cup was added to the haul on Easter
Monday by the first team for the first time, giving the clean sweep.
2003-04 started with only one aim, promotion to the Minerva South Midlands league, with all the ground
improvements complete, the team needed to do the job one more time, as this time the application for the much
earn promotion would be made. This aim has been achieved as the First team secured a top two place. They also
won the Rickmansworth charity cup again and were Winners of the Highly Prestigious St Mary’s Cup. The
Reserves retained the World Class Homes Reserve Division one Championship and won the Minerva South
Midlands Reserve Floodlight Cup at the first attempt beating holders Dunstable in the final. The 4th team finished
R/up in the West Herts League Div 2 and the Sunday team crowned a great season by winning the Marathon
Sunday Leagues Charity Cup and were runners up in the League.
2004-05 Season was beyond anybodies dream in the club, the first team winning a treble trophy season. The
Minerva Division one Championship was won at the first attempt, winning the division by seven points clear, this
was added to the Hertfordshire Centenary Trophy that had been won at The Letchworth County ground in April,
beating Hatfield Town 2-0. The triple was sealed in the last game of the season, beating Tring Athletic in the
Minerva Floodlight cup final on penalties after a 0-0aet game. The division one-cup final was lost to Biggleswade.
The 2005-06 season, our first in the premier division, saw us finish in 13th place. We entered the FA Cup for the
first time and reached the semi-final of the Herts FA Senior Challenge Cup where we lost to Bishop’s Stortford in
extra time. Our path to the semi-final gave us our first ever fixture against football league opposition when we
met Barnet at home.
Our 2 – 1 victory was watched by a club record crowd of 257, an event that was marked by a presentation to the
club, from Barnet, to commemorate the occasion.
The 2006-07 season was without doubt the Clubs best ever season, finishing 7th in the Premier Division and
reaching the Premier Division cup final where we lost to Edgware Town by the only goal of a closely fought cup
tie. The highlight of the season was in the FA Cup when we visited AFC Wimbledon in the second qualifying
round, where despite defeat we all spent an unforgettable day. In the FA Vase we reached the third round proper where we lost at Ipswich Wanderers. Our giant killing act continued in the Herts Senior Challenge Cup when we
defeated St. Albans City by 4 goals to 1 before losing, in the next round, to Borehamwood in extra time, after
drawing 1 – 1 at the end of normal time.
The 2007-08 season was a difficult one for the Club due to the long term injuries suffered by many of the key
players. We finished in 19th position in the league and lost to Welwyn Garden City in the Herts FA Charity Shield
semi-final. We did however reach the final of the St. Mary’s Cup where we were soundly beaten 5 – 1 by Hemel
Hempstead Town from the BGB Football League.
The 2008 – 09 season saw us finish in 13th position in the league and we reached the final of the South Midlands
Floodlight Cup where we lost by 2 goals to 1 to Royston Town. Our Reserve team finished as champions of
Reserve Division 1 which they won by 9 clear points.
The Club reached two County Finals during the 2009-10 season. The first being the Intermediate Cup, where the
Reserves were beaten 3 – 0 by Hemel Hempstead Town Reserves. Our second visit to The County Ground saw us
win the Charity Shield, for the first time, beating St Margaretsbury, by 4 goals to 2. In the League our reserve team
retained the Reserve Division 1 title and the first team finished a very creditable 11th following a poor start to the season. We again reached the St. Mary’s cup final, finishing once more as runners-up to Hemel Hempstead Town.
The 2010-11 season saw us finish in 19th position, which equalled our worst ever position since joining the
league. Our reserves finished as runners-up, losing the league title, which they had held for two years, on the last
day of the season. We needed a victory at Crawley Green, but we could only draw with, what was their first team,
and Hadley beat us to the title.
During the 2011-12 season, as we approached the club’s 40th anniversary, we were once again a successful cup team despite our lowly 17th position finish in the premier division. We were only the second South Midlands side
to reach the Herts Senior Challenge Cup Final where we met and were well beaten by Bishops Stortford. Our
second county final saw us beat Kings Langley in the Herts FA Charity Shield to lift the title for the second time in
the last three seasons. Our third cup final was The St Mary’s Cup where we again met Hemel Hempstead Town,
and the only goal of the game from Andrew Lomas secured victory for us over our old rivals in this competition.
During the season we broke our club attendance when a total of 376 supporters watched as we were narrowly
beaten by Hendon by 2 goals to 1 in the FA Cup.
The 2012-13 season was the clubs most successful league season. Due to the worst weather for many years we
finished the last few weeks of the season playing 3 matches each week and the runners-up spot was lost on the last
day of the season. We finished in 3rd position behind Aylesbury United and Dunstable Town, who completed the
season without losing a league fixture. We retained the Herts FA Charity Shield defeating Hertford Town 4 – 0 in
the final, and the last match of the season in mid May saw us beat Cockfosters to win the South Midlands
Floodlight Cup.
In Her Majesty the Queens 2013 birthday honours list the club founder John Elliott was awarded the British
Empire Medal for services to young people and the community in South Oxhey. This was a great and much
deserved reward for over 40 years of hard work creating and managing Oxhey Jets Football Club.
The start of the 2013-14 season was a difficult one for the Club as we found out that all except three of last
season’s team had decided to move to other clubs. With just two weeks to kick off Wayne Gladdy was appointed
as manager to try and put a team together. At the end of January with just 20 points gained, Wayne started to
recruit new players and from then on we only lost one league match which secured our status for the new season. We also reached the final of the St Mary’s Cup where we beat Leverstock Green 3 – 2. Our reserves finished as
runners-up in the Herts FA Intermediate Cup and our Academy team were winners of the Allied Counties East
Division.

Welling United 4-1 TAFC Reserve team TAFC goals: Tom Cullimore
A glance at the scoreline suggests that the Ressies took a hiding here but the truth of the matter is that this was a game of nip and tuck until the 88th minute when a farcical penalty award
made all of the difference.
Tring were depleted with 13 players and severely limited forward options for the long journey to South East London. 4 of the side were 16 or 17 years old and Centre Half James Butler has a
mental age of 12. You would never have guessed though as the young guns of Tring competed
well with their Conference South experienced opponents. Youth Team players James Cullimore
and Ben Seaton were buzzing around like South American Cluster Flies in the wide roles. 17 year old Luke Dunstan had been pushed into Sam Joliffe's number 10 role and was a revelation.
Yet Welling took the lead when a cross wasn't dealt with and a header ended up in the net. 1-0.
For the final 5 minutes of the half Tring laid siege to the Welling goal. Smethers fired wide
from 6 yards. Then he hit the post with a header and Luke Dunstan couldn't convert the follow
up.
Half time - Welling 1 TAFC 0
The nip and tuck continued in the second half but Welling increased their lead on 65 minutes.
James Butler was shoved on the blind side of the referee and the chance in the box was converted. This didn't deter Tring and they went 4-4-2 and began to dominate again aided by
the introduction of the tenacious 16 year old Joe Fitzgerald. Reon Thomas was freed on the
right and fed the ball across the box via Marvin Tabi. Housewive's Choice Tom Cullimore was
on hand to delight his growing fan club and fire the ball into the net from 18 yards. An excellent goal that has been coming all season for the excellent Cullimore.
Tring were buzzing. A free kick was met by the imperious Butler and Fitzgerald fired over from
2 yards - his blushes thankfully spared by a linesman's flag.
It was absorbing stuff but a little ruined on 88 mins when a Welling striker was going nowhere
but ran into the back of Dan Steadman and fell over. To the horror of the Tring contingent a
penalty was awarded. Even the home side supporters were stunned and commented so at the time. 3-1.
Young Tring were shattered and conceded a comedy goal on 90 minutes, with Steadman and
Garrett giving a fine slapstick performance to give the score an extremely harsh lopsided feel.
The result shouldn't shroud what has been an excellent start to the season. 1 home game and 4
very long trips to superior (on paper) opponents have yielded 7 points and the lads on the whole
can feel proud of their efforts and positive attitude. They have been a credit to the club.

Athletic score a dramatic 92nd minute winner to record their 5th consecutive win.
Tring started brightly yet again but this time couldn't establish an early lead despite efforts from Taylor Collins & Chris Vary being kept out by the home custodian. Shortly after Matt Evans was called into action holding up a forward before Chris Salmon could clear.
A 32nd minute Greg Deer free kick found the head of Chris Salmon at the far post who put
wide but then the skipper was soon back to clear a dangerous cross from our own box. After a spell of end to end play, the home side took a 42 minute lead with a scrappy goal
when Tring failed to clear their lines. HT - HBFC 1-0 TAFC
Again Tring came out of the dressing room fastest. Taylor Collins' volley was saved in the
1st minute of the 2nd half with McManus shooting over during the next attack. Greg Deer had a shot blocked before Chris Salmon went even closer than before as his
header shaved the post after great work from Ryan Sturges. Tring continued to ramp up the pressure with a good shout for a penalty turned down and
Vardy shooting narrowly wide. In the 73rd minute the home defence cracked. Taylor Collins crossed for Chris Vardy to score his 6th of the season and level things up.
Tring pressed for a winner, Collins set up King who had his shot blocked and Athletic probably thought the their chance had gone as Salmon's 91st minute shot was also blocked.
However in the second minute of added time Kevin McManus went on a great run down the left and crossed for Stewart King to side foot home at the near post for a very late winner.

Leverstock Green 8-1 TAFC Youth Team
TAFC goals: Archie Harrison Leverstock Green’s Pancake Lane
witnessed a Tring performance that was as flat as the dessert the ground
is named after. There was however nothing in the pre-match preparations
to suggest that the team would go on to perform far below the required
standard.
From the very start the home side was on the front foot with free-flowing
two and three touch football and this was played, with a determined and
physical edge that the visitors found hard to cope with. Although
Leverstock had the majority of the possession, Tring managed to mount a
few attacking sorties of their own and were unlucky on a couple of
occasions not to open their account.
As the clock ticked down to half-time and with the score remaining 0-0
there was still grounds for optimism in the visitor’s dugout when in the
space of a minute, Tring found themselves 2-0 down and a proverbial
mountain to climb. Half-time 2-0
Leverstock started the second half in much the same way as the first and
they went further ahead shortly after the restart and was quickly
followed by the fourth before Tring substitute Archie HARRISON slotted
home a neat finish to make it 4-1 and give the visitors a glimmer of hope.
Unfortunately, this minor setback, gave the home side new impetus and
with the home crowd now becoming more and more vocal, Leverstock
scored their fifth and were then awarded a penalty which was duly
converted to make the score-line 6-1.
Damage limitation was now the order of the day and Tring reverted to a
3-5-2 system but to no avail as the home side ran riot scoring 2 more
goals to the delight of their supporters and the abject horror of the
visitor’s management team. Final score 8-1.
The post-match debrief from this debacle was held in a rather subdued
dressing room and many of the players must now hold their hands up
with regards to their under-performance, if the squad wants to move
forward. It is great to pull on a Tring Athletic shirt but once in it players
must perform to the high standards the club expects.
The U18 Management team are already looking for a more determined
performance from the squad next Wednesday against AFC Dunstable
than the one just witnessed!

League
TAFC First team 1-1 Harefield United
Athletic maintained their unbeaten run by drawing against a good
Harefield side in ideal conditions.
Three changes were made to Athletic's starting line up from the
midweek game, Chris Vardy, Trevor Gibbs and Kevin McManus were
all unavailable, in came Ollie Butler, Ryan McMahon and Stewart
King.
Athletic began brightly without creating any openings, however it was
Harefield who took the lead from effectively their first attacking move
when Athletic conceded a corner. The corner was floated dangerously
in and defender Ryan Egan was on hand to bundle the ball into the goal
from virtually under the bar. Athletic pushed forward from the re-start
and Ryan McMahon saw his shot easily saved by visiting keeper Matt
Elston-Bull. In the 21st minute Athletic equalised, Stewart King
collected a pass in the area and then was pulled back by a defender, this
being spotted by the assistant referee who indicated a penalty. Greg
Deer stepped up in the absence of usual penalty taker Trevor Gibbs to
decisively fire into the top of the net. The game flowed from end to end
and Harefield nearly scored again in the 37th minute but for a fine save
from home keeper Matt Evans.
Half time: TAFC 1 Harefield Utd 1
The second half began with Athletic initially on the offensive but it was
Harefield who then took the game to Athletic, with Mark Smith going
close and then Michael Chennells missing a golden opportunity. He
was left totally unmarked in the area but his shot was brilliantly saved
by Matt Evans and then the loose ball was cleared off the line by some
desperate defending. Athletic brought on Lee Benning for Michael
Green in the 65th minute and then became the second player to be
booked a minute later for a late challenge. This booking was then
followed shortly by Harefields defender Danny Bennell for a deliberate
trip. Further substitutes were made by both sides, Athletic were finding
it difficult to create any chances as Harefield were defending well. Ollie
Butler became the fourth player to be cautioned following a late
challenge. Following a Harefield free kick Athletics captain Chris
Salmon was relieved to see his header hit his own crossbar, the danger
then being cleared. Athletic were giving away too many corners but
fortunately nothing came from them. Matt Evans saved well again in
the 80th minute following a shot on the turn by Michael Chennells. In
the 86th minute Athletic put together a fine move culminating in Taylor
Collins firing just wide and then Chris Salmon nearly hitting the winner
with an overhead kick from the edge of the area, his effort hitting the
underside of the bar.
Harefield did create the majority of the chances in the game and
probably thought they should have taken all three points, Athletics
keeper Matt Evans was the busier of the two keepers making three
excellent saves, however Athletic worked hard throughout the game
against a very good side.

TAFC First team 3-4 Hitchin Town
An entertaining friendly match played in a good spirit and plenty of
goals. Both teams used large squads and the football was neat and end
to end, played at a good tempo. Tring were a goal behind throughout
the game and despite a hat trick from Chris Vardy, keeping the match a
close contest Hitchin, ran out victors by 4 goals to 3.

Sun 14th Sep 2014 Herts County Cup 1st Round
Bovingdon Youth 0-8 TAFC U15 Youth Team TAFC goals: Will Darraugh (3), Isaac Munt (2), Harrison Woods, Ryan
Higgins (pen), Christopher Butler
We had a great start with a well worked goal for Lee Hatch after just 4
minutes but then struggled to find a good final pass to take advantage
of some lovely build up play for the next 20 minutes or so.
Ryan Higgins was holding midfield well and allowing Harry Brown
and Chris Butler to dominate and play in the wide players.
Two good finishes from Will Darraugh meant that we went into the half
time break with a comfortable 3 goal advantage which was well
deserved.
The main areas for improvement we spoke about at half time were
communication especially from Luke Priestly to help his defenders and
that final pass.
Both improved a lot in the second half and as they did so the goals
went in, the first for Will Darraugh to complete his hat trick.
Isaac Munt added two goals either side of Ryan Higgin's penalty which
was rightly awarded for handball on the line to deny Ryan a clear goal.
The referee was right to send their defender off and we must remember
that at this age group referees will apply law and book and send off our
players if they deserve it.
Chris Butler completed the scoring with a deserved goal for all of his
hard work in midfield where he and Harry Brown are developing a
good understanding.
Overall this was a much better display but it is a return to League
action next weekend when we host Hughenden Valley at the Grass
Roots Stadium with an earlier kick off at 9.45am.
