Dear Parents,

It is hard to believe that we have reached the end of Term One already! It has been

a very successful term filled with many varied activities and learning opportunities.

Already Term Two is proving to be extremely busy so please keep your eye on the

date section of the newsletter.

Last week I was privileged to attend the Year Six Camp to Canberra. It was a great

week and the children should be commended for their attitude and behaviour. The

students experienced many wonderful learning opportunities in our Nation’s Capital.

Thanks to Andrea Berryman, Jenny Cassar, Michelle Edmanson, Jane Heard, Donna

Johnston, Tara Todisco and Glenice Shortal who attended the camp. It is a big effort

to leave their families for the week.

Today we enjoyed our Caritas-a-thon and on Friday we have our Stations of the

Cross and Easter Raffle. Thanks to Samantha Willis and the Social Justice Leaders

for their organisation and the Parents and Friends Committee for cooking the BBQ

and organising the raffle. Further details of these events are contained within this

newsletter.

We have commenced our level blogs this week, Corina Watson has provided

information for parents about the blogs and how to access them within the

newsletter.

At the end of this term we farewell Danielle Davis and Samantha Willis who will

commence maternity leave. We wish them all the best for the upcoming birth of

their children. Greg Illman will also be departing at the end of the term, for personal

reasons Greg is taking Long Service Leave at short notice. Andrea Berryman and

Glenice Shortal will also be on Long Service Leave at the commencement of term

two. Diana Jans will return from Long Service Leave next term.

We will be holding our Grade 4 Camp Information Night on Wednesday the 15th

of April at 7pm in the Multi-Purpose Room.

Over the course of the next three terms Trinity will be undertaking Catholic School

Renewal and Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA)

Accreditation. Renewal is a process where as a school we critically analyse where we

are at, evaluate what we believe we do well and what we can improve upon and then

create a strategic plan for the next four years. It is facilitated by the Catholic

Education Office Sale and we will be using the Education Board, Parents and Friends

Committee and recent Insight SRC and Enhancing Catholic Identity surveys that

parents filled in to provide feedback for the process. The VRQA component consists

of us demonstrating to the authority that we have the correct procedures and

policies in place to remain registered as a school. The first day of next term,

Monday the 13th of April, will be a School Closure Day to allow us to get the

Renewal process underway.

I hope that everyone has a very happy and holy Easter and I look forward to

working with everyone again next term.

2015 SCHOOL FEES

Accounts have been sent home and are now overdue. If you have not already done so please make your payment as soon as possible. Thankyou to the families who have already

done so. Payments can be made by Cash, BPay ($50 min amount), Cheque and EFTPOS. Payments can be made in instalments. Direct Debit facilities are available.

SACRAMENT LEVY APPLIES TO ALL STUDENTS ENROLLED AT TRINITY

Sacrament Levy of $22 per child per year. This must be paid by the end of Term 1, 27th

March. Payment can be made by Cash, Cheque or EFTPOS.

This levy is to be paid irrespective of your child celebrating a sacrament in 2015. the levy will be charged annually for the duration on your child’s primary school years.

SCHOOL CLOSURE DAYS Please note the next Student Free Day is:

MONDAY 13th APRIL (first day of Term 2).

This year the Alannah and Madeline Foundation launched the eSmart Digital Licence, a new initiative

to help protect children from online risks such as cyberbullying and accessing inappropriate content. The Digital Licence has been made available to every grade 6 student in Australia in 2015, thanks to

a grant of over $1.2 million from Google. The online challenge uses quizzes, videos and games to prepare Australian children (aged 10 and

over) to be smart, safe and responsible digital citizens. Children will complete eight learning modules which evaluate their comprehension of key technology and cyber safety topics, and equip them with

the knowledge and skills they require to learn, play and socialise online. Each Trinity Grade 6 student is eligible to participate in the eSmart Digital Licence.

Consent forms were sent home on Wednesday the 11th of March 2015, could all Grade 6

students who have not yet returned their consent form to their class teacher please do so before the end of Term 1.

Grade 6 ICT Reminder

During the past few weeks the teachers have been busy creating their Grade blogs. All blogs are now

live and accessible on our school website via the News and Events menu. Students of all ages can

reap an enormous amount of rewards from blogging. There are rewards for teachers, parents,

grandparents and families too! Blogging provides the ideal opportunity for students to learn

appropriate online behaviours and get experience using 21st century technology.

Shortly your child will be bringing home a notice regarding their class blog. Please take the time to read this letter and do not hesitate to speak to your child’s class teacher or myself if you have any questions regarding blogging. We look forward to sharing the Contemporary Learning that is taking

place at Trinity via our blogs and developing home-school partnerships. Remember to subscribe to the blogs to receive email notification when a new post is created and leave comments on our posts.

Please encourage grandparents and other family members to visit our blogs also.

CLASS BLOGS 2015

Canberra camp

Year 6 students from Trinity Primary School have recently undertaken an education tour of the National Capital.

Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on

Australia's history, culture, heritage and democracy.

The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the National

Capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion

the Australian Government is contributing funding of $30 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education

Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

Student Reviews

On Sunday the 15th of March, we got on the bus at 7:15am. It took about 9 hours to get to our Caravan Park.

when we got there we unpacked and went to have dinner. After dinner we had our Talent Show then we went to

bed.

On Monday morning we went to the National Planning Gallery then we went to the Australian Mint, where they

make coins. After that we went to Questacon and had lots of fun. After Questacon we went back to our Caravan

Park to get organised to go swimming at the AIS.

The next day we went to Parliament House where we learnt about the Senate and the House of Representatives.

We also went to Old Parliament House and went on a tour. We also saw lots of galleries and museums as well as

going to the top of Telstra Tower, very late at night, after dinner.

Wednesday was the last day in Canberra. We went to the AIS where we saw lots of people practising their

sports. In the afternoon we went to the Australian War Memorial where we watched the changing of the guard.

After dinner we watched Hoodwinked for movie night and packed our bags to put on the bus.

We woke up at 5:30am on Thursday and took our day packs on the bus and slept for 2 hours before we had

McDonalds in Gundagai for breakfast. We stopped a couple of times along the way and finally reached school at

4:15pm. We all had fun at camp and learnt a lot.

On the 15th of March all of the Grade 6's went to Canberra for Year 6 Camp. It took a really long time, most

people slept. Once we got there we unpacked our belongings and headed to dinner.

The next morning we woke up and started our adventure around Canberra. Over the next 3 days we visited

places like Parliament House, AIS, The Australian War Memorial and plenty of museums.

My favourite activity was swimming at the AIS pool with all the other Grade 6 students.

I had a great time but missed my family, it was great to get home and be back with them.

Last week Grade 6 went to Canberra for our School Camp. The first place we went to was the National Planning

Centre for Canberra, we learnt that there was a competition for how Canberra was going to be designed. We

also went to Parliament House, where we learnt about the Senate and the House of Representatives.

We went to Questacon where we learnt about Gravity, lightning and earthquakes. My favourite part about camp

was the AIS, where we learnt about how all the sports are managed and how they train and prepare for their

events.

Camp was an excellent experience for me!

2015 Casey Student Leaders reception On Thursday 12th March 2015, our student leaders attended a special formal ceremony hosted by the City of

Casey, to acknowledge the newly appointed school captains and leaders of all schools.

The afternoon included many presentations from some of Casey’s young leaders; motivational guest speaker,

Marita Cheng; 2012 Young Australian of the Year and provided networking time for the Primary and Secondary

Student Leaders to get to know each other over afternoon tea.

I really enjoyed meeting the 2012 Young Australian of the Year, Marita Cheng because her words in her speech

were very inspiring. She started a small industry for girls in engineering and trading which showed me that any

gender is capable of doing anything, if they believe in what they want to accomplish.

My highlight of the afternoon was when a year 12 student, named Stephen Capon said to us, “it’s up to you how

you want to be and how you can be a better leader”, because it tells me that I can be what I want and still

enjoy it. I was happy to know that I was chosen because I am a good leader and I want to make our school a

better place by helping all the people in our school.

Siritah Mohammadi had been through difficult times and she found herself in an Australian school speaking no

English, but before she did all those things she was a refugee who came to Australia. She has seen death and

fighting in her country before she came to Australia, and one of my favourite quotes was “when an opportunity

opens up, grab it with both hands”. As chosen to be a Student Leader I am happy to accept the responsibility

and discipline that comes with the position.

My highlight for the night was the inspirational speeches as they told me how to become a better leader. As

one of the speakers said “when an opportunity is in front of you, you just have to grab it like a burger, just grab

it from both sides”. This quote inspired me to grab every opportunity that is there.

My highlight was when Marita Cheng talked about ro-bo girls. Ro-bo girls is a program to encourage girls to do

more trade work. In University 5 of 200 girls are in a class for engineering and trading. Ro-bo girls was set up

to make girls do more engineering and other courses. Ro-bo girls is now worldwide and she quite the company

to make robot arms to pick up things and do other stuff.

CONGRATULATIONS

Grade 4 students Jett, Julian, Jasmine, Jordan, Jehan and Sean are members of “The Force” soccer team and won their Grand Final 5—2.

They are coached by Trinity Parents Leo and Pablo. Well done boys!

Today, Wednesday the 25th March was Trinity’s Caritas-a-thon Fundraiser. So

far our early total of funds raised, is over $1200 with still plenty of more

coins to count.

The students thoroughly enjoyed the obstacle course, whilst learning more

about the community’s needs in Peru and celebrated the appreciation of food

as a whole school shared lunch.

A big thank you to the year 6 leaders for helping run the day and to our love-

ly P’n’F and many parent helpers for volunteering their time to cook and

serve a delicious lunch.

Students are required to wear their house colour T-shirt with their sport uniform to school.

Teams will assemble in the Readman Hall and House Captains will lead their team in chants

and song. Students will gather to eat their lunch with their House. All Prep students and

new students will be notified of their House by the end of Term 1.

Mums, grand-mothers, special friends are invited to come along with their children for breakfast in the Hall. The Breakfast for the Mums and children consists of croissants/toast/coffee (from the Coffee van for Mum) and fruit.

The cost is $5.00 per person, including children.

I am also hoping that some of the Dads will be able to come along and help with the serving, without your help we cannot give the mums the treat they deserve!

Staff begins at 8.30am before school and after school only at the drop off area until 3.30pm.

Please observe and supervise your children, as they play

on the equipment.

TRINITY CAR PARK For greater safety and visibility, we are requesting that all

drivers reverse park into the marked bays.

Thank you all who use the pedestrian crossing area. You

are demonstrating to your children correct road safety practices. Once children cross the pedestrian crossing into

the parking area, they, for their safety, need to be placed into vehicles promptly. The car park is NOT a meeting area.

The lane around the edge of the car park (closest to the

oval) are for vehicles waiting to pick children up from the

Pick-up Zone ONLY.

The two parking bays closest to the office path are the PICK

-UP ZONES. These are NO STANDING zones. If your

children are not ready to get into your car as you pull up to the pick-up zone, you must continue on and rejoin the end

of the pick-up queue.

There is NO RIGHT TURN when exiting the car park. All

vehicles must turn left for the safety of others and to maintain traffic flow.

THE GATES CLOSE AT 9.00am AND RE-OPEN AT

3.00pm. Occasionally they might re-open slightly later due to school activities.

PASTORAL CARE NEWSLETTER 25th MARCH 2014

MOTHER’S DAY BREAKFAST ON FRIDAY 8TH May. Again I’m looking for some Dads to serve our gracious mums. So if they can let me know as soon as possible

that they are available that would be terrific – only two helpers so far!! The Breakfast for the Mums and children consists of croissants/toast/coffee (from

HOLIDAY ACTIVITY AT THE BOTANIC GARDENS CRANBOURNE: In case you missed the article in last week’s local paper, there is a school holiday program including bush fairy

and elf day on April 1st, 10am – 2pm. These gardens are on the corner of Bullarto Rd and Botanic Drive, Cranbourne. Details on 5990 2200. ( I do not know if there is a cost

involved).

SACRAMENT OF FIRST EUCHARIST: Enrolment and parent-only workshop is Thursday

30th April at 7.45pm in the Parish Church. Remember that this year there is only ONE such night for this Sacrament.

CRAFT: A few one-eyed footy eyes are left - $1.00 each.

LOST PROPERTY BOX This is the last call for you to look through the Lost

Property box before the holidays. Please look through the box for any lost school jumpers or jackets. If your child’s items are not named

please do so through the holidays because it is much easier to return them if they are named. Also some named jumpers/jackets are

missing. If you find your child has someone else’s clothing please return it to them after the holidays.
