Trinity Kids Resource Pack Sunday May 24th, Proverbs 1:8-19, 9:1-18 Passage Pointers (helping you consider how you might read the Bible together as a family) The kids talk today engages with Proverbs 9:1-6 and Proverbs 9:13-18. These are two speeches, one from the personification of wisdom (Lady Wisdom) and one from the personification of folly (Lady Folly). This passage serves to summarise Proverbs 1-9, in which the parent-teacher is teaching his children to desire and pursue wisdom, which is found in the fear of the LORD. Because the main parent-child interaction is father to son, wisdom (and folly) are personified as women who compete for the son’s attention. Will he listen to lady wisdom, who brings life in the fear of the LORD, or will he listen to lady folly, who o!ers pleasure but ultimately leads to death? This is pretty abstract, and younger children may struggle to engage with the metaphor directly. As a family, you might like to read through Proverbs 9:1-6; 13-18 together before the video. God Talk (Helping you chat through the passage and its implications) Some questions as you work through the passage together: What toys / things do you want the most? Why do you want them? This question is meant to help get to the heart of the Proverbs illustration of wisdom and folly as women. We need to think about what we desire to see how important wisdom is meant to be to us. What does lady wisdom do? What does lady folly do? Who do you think is better to listen to? Why?

Passage Pointers (helping you consider how you might read the Bible together as a family)

The kids talk today engages with Proverbs 9:1-6 and Proverbs 9:13-18.

God Talk (Helping you chat through the passage and its implications)

Some questions as you work through the passage together:

• What toys / things do you want the most? Why do you want them? This question is meant to help get to the heart of the Proverbs illustration of

wisdom and folly as women. We need to think about what we desire to see

how important wisdom is meant to be to us.

• What does lady wisdom do?

• What does lady folly do?

• Who do you think is better to listen to? Why?

Keep it up this week! Over the coming week, read these proverbs and discuss them together. Proverbs are written to be mulled over and considered together!

• Monday: Proverbs 1:8-9

• Tuesday: Proverbs 3:5-6

• Wednesday: Proverbs 4:23-27

• Thursday: Proverbs 6:6-8

• Friday: Proverbs 9:7-9

• Saturday: Proverbs 9:10-12

Resource for this week As we keep remembering together, the beginning of wisdom is in the fear of the LORD. It’s all about living all of our lives with a right respect for God as LORD of our life. To that end, the “Who Will Be King” activity book by Matthias Media is a fantastic resource which works through the gospel outline.

Listen to Lady Wisdom and help prepare a delicious feast…

What do you think Lady Folly’s disgusting feast will look like?

Instructions

You will need: scissors, coloured pencils and 1 split-pin.

1. Colour in Lady Wisdom 2. Cut out both circles

along the dotted line 3. Place the Lady wisdom

circle on top of the Proverbs 1:7 circle, so that you can see the words above her head as it spins and push the split pin through the red circle to hold it together as it spins.

RECEPTION – YEAR 2s -Sunday 24th May 2020-

Spot the Difference

There’s some baking going on in the kitchen for a delicious feast. There are 10 small differences between the 2 pictures below. Can you spot them?

1.Door knobs (l: round, r: heart shaped) 6. Cat (l: holding spoon, r: holding lollipop) 2.Clock (l: 1.30, r: 2.45) 7. Bananas (l: 2, r: 3) 3.Cupboard (l: blue glass, r: 2 dolls) 8. Cookies (l: orange square cookie, r: yellow disk) 4.Grandma’s hair (l: hair pin, r: no pin) 9. Plate on the right (l: blank, r: smiley face) 5.Child’s left feet (l: no sock, r: white sock) 10. Child (l: tongue out, r: none)

Setting the Table What you need: Access to printer, paper and pair of scissors.

Cut out the table setting below. What’s a wise way to set the table so that it’s easy for you to eat? Would it be wise for you to put the glass on the plate? Would you put the knife on the glass? When you’ve finished setting up the table, ask an adult if they agree with the setting. If you have time, you could write the memory verse on the plate…can you remember it? (The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction. Proverbs 1:7) You can decorate the plate, napkin, glass and cutlery too.

Leave Your Simple Ways and Live Activities in Proverbs

Have you ever stood on the edge of a cliff? yes / no

Did it look a bit like this? yes / no There are 2 ways to get to the bottom of this cliff (to the penguin party). What do the signs say?

1. ______________________ Way

2. Way of ____________________ Would the simple way be quick? yes / no It sure would be quick! And you’d be dead! Would the way of understanding be safer? yes / no It sure would! Even though it would take longer, it would be worth it.

Spot the 5 differences between the picture above and the picture below: (and you can colour it in if you want, too)

Proverbs 9:6 says… “Leave your simple ways and live. Walk in the way of understanding.” That’s good advice from God. How can we remember it? How about we do a find-a-word with every word of the verse hidden in it? Let’s try that on the next page…

LEAVE YOUR SIMPLE WAYS AND LIVE WALK IN THE WAY OF UNDERSTANDING PROVERBS 9:6 So how do we begin to walk in the way of understanding? (select 2 from below)

a) Eat more cheeseburgers b) Jump off a cliff c) Seek wisdom d) Fear the Lord

Do you remember Proverbs 1:7? yes / no / maybe Proverbs 1:7 says… “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.” So if we want to begin with knowledge/understanding/wisdom, who do we need to fear? ____________ That’s right – before we can begin to understand anything in this world, we need to listen to the creator of this world. God created the whole universe! Can you draw some more stars and planets to remind us all how awesome God is?
