Never could I have dreamed of being Pastor to a church with a DNA so strong that one can feel the presence of God when you walk into His House. It is truly a joy to walk in on a Sunday morning and witness the smiling faces and the fellowship that emanates from each one of us, from Moe Johnson, to Dee Rasmussen. All happy to be back in the Lords House and listen to his word being taught, his love and his grace freely given. And I can assure you that now that I am settled in the back is doing much better and most of the pain is gone, I’m ready to get on with the process of visiting people and welcoming them to Trinity as you have done for me. There is a lot to get accomplished and a short time to get there, but together with the help of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit we will get Trinity ready to welcome its new pastor. Please keep me in your prayers as we face the Giants knowing that God will provide for all our needs and in His time, He will direct the Pastor who God wants to lead the congregation of Trinity into the future. Interim Pastor Ron Hughes

500 S Pennsylvania Ave PO Box 427 Platte, SD 57369

As I was preaching at the nursing home the other day, I was telling the story of God’s compassionate love it goes something like this.

A man fell into a deep pit and couldn’t get himself out.

A subjective person came along and said I feel for you down there.

An objective person came along and said that with a hole that big in the middle of the road it would be obvious that someone would eventually fall into the pit.

A leader of the church said, only bad people fall into pits.

A mathematician calculated how deep the pit was.

An IRS agent asked if he was paying taxes on the pit.

A self-pitying person said, you haven’t seen anything until you’ve seen my pit.

A Fire and Brimstone preacher said you deserve that pit.

Only Jesus upon seeing that man in the pit reached down and helped him out of his pit.

Only Jesus had the compassion to reach of himself and extend the arm of love and compassion to all who are stuck in their own pit.

Pastor Ron is available for pastoral care and visitation. Hours:

From the WOW Co-Presidents

What drives us to do what we do? Do we analyze our words, our actions, and our every effort in connection with our spouse? our parents? our children? members of our church? our neighbors? our co-workers? There is an entire audience of people whom we believe is watching our every move. Sometimes, we try to please everyone. If our motives as we serve any one of these individuals or an entire audience are merely to gain their acceptance, their accolades, and even their applause, then we are serving for the wrong reasons. We are judging ourselves and even our self-worth on how we interpret other people's often-shifting opinions of our performance or our children's performance. And as we do, we are making our service all about us. In an effort to please, do we ever allow our words or actions to go against our Christian convictions? The truth is that many of us have struggled to stand firm in our convictions when they were not part of the popular stance for fear that our relationships or our reputation will be ruined if we lost the approval of a mass audience. What about God's approval? How do we earn it? Brace yourself for this truth: we already have it! Matthew 3:17 says, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased". We cannot find God's approval outside of Christ. When God looks at us, He sees us through Christ. Christ's perfection covers us, and God smiled down on us, His chosen and adopted children!! That's all the approval we need!

Search Committee Minutes

Articles TLC Search Committee 7/23/19: The search committee met to discuss the transition of the interim and future plans. Now that the interim pastor is in place, the committee will resume the search for a permanent pastor. A quick review was done of what we are looking for in a pastor. Mary will contact LCMC about getting the position officially posted on their website and inquire about obtaining addresses and lists of candidates. Other avenues of communication were also discussed such as a mailing announcing the position to all pastors available for call on the LCMC website and contacting seminaries. The committee will meet again Sunday, July 28th after the worship service, upon which they will review information and guidance from LCMC.

TLC Search Committee 7/28/19: The committee met after Sunday worship. Discussion was held on how to incorporate Pastor Ron into the transition and search process. It was felt that one of his most important roles is to visit the congregation to get to know people and gather information about the needs of our church to help us pick pastor that will meet those needs. He will also be given a copy of the survey results to review. Mary shared information from LCMC about posting the position and obtaining a list of all pastors available for call. It was decided to email a letter of invitation to the complete list (145 entries) as well as the seminaries suggested by LCMC. The goal is to have the position officially posted on the LCMC website and emails announcing the position completed within the week. The committee will await inquires and plans to meet Sunday, August 18th after church, or sooner if needed.

We would like to thank those of you who offered your time last year to teach one of our Sunday School classes. It is that time again to prepare for another year. We have found that co-teaching seems

to work very well and would like to continue with that. However, that does require 2 teachers per grade level (Preschool thru 4th Grade and High School needed)

If you find yourself hesitating to volunteer because committing to every Sunday can be difficult, co-teaching does allow you more flexibility throughout the year!

If you feel the Lord is calling you to teach this year, please contact the Board of Ed. Alisha Nachtigal 680-1131 or 337-9525 Meredith Suits 207-0377 or 337-9893

Traci Kott 680-4820 or 337-2682

Thank you for helping our youth grow in their faith & walk with God!!
