Mother Teresa PASTOR’S PERSPECTIVE By now you are surely aware that the Sunday, February 15 th , is Consecration Sunday. This event is important not just for the mission and ministry of Trinity, it is important to each of us – as individuals – because our financial giving is a central part of our walk with the Lord. The issue for me has not been how much we give, but, the reasons behind what we give. Our financial gifts are part of a prayerful process of taking note of all of the Lord’s blessings. And not just material blessings but, the love, grace and forgiveness that Jesus has won for us through His death and resurrection. As well as how God is with us through all phases of our lives – both the good and the bad; the laughter and the tears; the celebrations and the moment of pain and despair. The Lord is with us, in us and through all things. It is these thoughts that we keep in our hearts as we prayerfully make our decisions as to what we return to the Lord for all His benefits to us. That’s the prayerful process that we are called to take – as part of our working up to Consecration Sunday. During our worship on the 15 th we will be asked to fill out our Estimate of Giving Cards – for what is our prayerful intent for financial giving for the rest of this year. Notice that these are not ‘pledges’ but estimates of giving. A ‘pledge’ locks us into a set amount of giving. An estimate recognizes that our giving throughout the year can change. If our income goes down we can revise out estimates. Likewise if our income goes up – so can our estimates of our giving be increased. So what we fill out during worship is our best estimate of what we wish to return to the Lord. I pray that you join us by attending the two special events; the Sunday morning worship services (8:15 or 10:30) and the Celebration Breakfast or Luncheon immediately following the worship services. Even if you don’t want to fill in the Estimate of Giving Card, I ask that you join with your brothers and sister in this important act of worship. Your presence shows your support for this entire process. The Sunday Breakfast and Luncheon are catered meals, so we need to take reservations for each person who will be present to accurately plan the amount of food needed. Our goal is to have every member and friend of the congregation present Sunday, February 15 th . If you did not make a reservation yet, please let us know that you will be attending by calling the church office at 474-3151. Please call by the morning of Thursday, February 12 th . Pastor Gerhard

During the month of February, Mrs. White (teacher of our 4 year old class) asks the parents to write a “love letter” to their child. These letters are read during the class Worship Time throughout the month. The children just beam as their letter is being read. What a wonderful way for each child to be reminded of how special they are and just how much they are loved. Can you think of someone who could use a reminder that they are loved? Tell them, hug them or maybe

write them a “love letter.” It sure brings smiles to the faces of our preschoolers. The morning classes visited Brown Memorial Nursing Home on Monday sharing God’s love through songs and smiles. We will enjoy Chapel and our Valentine Classroom Parties this week. And don’t forget that enrollment for the 2015/2016 school year is well under way. If you are interested in our preschool, please give me a call at 474-9870. Happy Valentine’s Day! -Nancy Harrow, Director

CHILDREN & FAMILY MINISTRIES The Sunday school children had a great time this past week finding passages in their Bible’s and reading them. When we have the students find verses in the Bible it is like a scavenger hunt. It takes a while, but when they find the right verse they get

so excited; this week was no exception. With Valentine’s Day approaching our lesson was focused on love. We learned of God’s love for us and why our love for others is so important. The students looked up each verse on our GOD IS LOVE printing and got to take a copy home with them to help remind them of God’s love.

We also worked on a valentine’s worksheet. We asked the students what friendship means to them, what love is, and how they can show God love. Josie Speakman did not get done with

hers during class, but what she did get done was amazing. She was given the letters LOVE and wrote the following:

L - Love

O - Overcomes

V – Very much

E - Evil

Also when asked “How I show God love” she wrote “read the Bible and come to church on Sundays.” We are so blessed to have such a wonderful student in our class.

We look forward to continuing our love lesson next week.

MID-WEEK LENTEN SERMON SERIES

11:00AM in the Parlor - Light meal to follow

7:15PM in the Sanctuary - Light meal starting at 6:00PM

Each service in this series focuses on a biblical parable that connects to Lenten themes, revealing that within each parable’s plot is woven a unique message about what we receive through the crucified Christ. The message is one you can take with you to enrich your own stories of faith in Jesus as you journey through Lent.

Ash Wednesday, February 18th: “Receive Justification: The Pharisee and the Tax Collector” • Luke 18:9-14 The tax collector who repents goes home justified, while the proud Pharisee does not. We, too, who repent are justified through Christ.

Week 1, February 25th: “Receive the Word: The Sower and the Seed” • Matthew 13:1-8, 18-23 The seed that falls on fertile soil takes root and grows, while seeds in other soils fail. The Word of Christ flourishes within us.

Week 2, March 4th: “Receive the Treasure: The Hidden Treasure and the Priceless Pearl” • Matthew 13:44-46 Two men give all that they have to buy objects of great worth. We who are priceless to Christ receive him who gave all that he had to call us his own.

Week 3, March 11th: “Receive Mercy: The Good Samaritan” • Luke 10:25-37 A man beaten on the road gets help from an unlikely traveler. We who are often beaten down along the road of life encounter the healing of Christ through the cross.

Week 4, March 18th: “Receive Grace: The Workers in the Vineyard” • Matthew 20:1-16 All workers in a vineyard are given the same pay from the master, no matter how long they have labored. All who have been called by the Master are blessed by the same reward in Christ.

Week 5, March 25th: “Receive Forgiveness: The Prodigal Son” • Luke 15:11-32 A wayward son returns to the forgiving embrace of his father, who welcomes him home. We who have strayed return again and again to the embrace of our Father, through the sacrifice of his Son.

Menu for Noon Lenten Meals: Ash Wednesday (2/18) - Parlor: Ham or Tuna Salad Sandwich, 3 Bean or Broccoli

Salad, Potato Chips, Cookies 2/25 - Noecker Hall: Cream of Potato Soup, Sloppy Joes, Relishes, Jelly Roll 3/4 - Noecker Hall: Cream of Broccoli Soup, Ham Sandwiches, Texas Sheet Cake, Peaches 3/11 - Noecker Hall: Tomato Soup, Grilled Cheese Sandwich, Relishes, Peach Upside Down Cake

Through the eyes of a resident...

I arrived at the Wernle campus on August 18th of 2014. I have now been here a little over 5 months. Upon arriving here, I was placed on the Private Secure unit like most other new residents are when they first get to Wernle. I was told that Private Secure was the place to prove myself and that I could eventually, through dedication and hard work, progress on to the Independent Living Unit. I took this advice and stayed out of trouble. I was on Private Secure for one month.

After that first month, I moved to the Staff Secure unit. My Case Manager at the time, Tyshaun, and my therapist, Julie, told me to keep doing well and I would only be on Staff Secure for a short period of time before I earned the privilege to move to the next stage, the Independent Living unit. I did exactly what they both guided me to do. Finally, I transitioned to the Independent Living Unit. Since my stay at Wernle I have not been perfect, and I still am not. However, I have made the decision to work through my programming and work on my living skills, drug & alcohol training, and violence groups. When I arrived at the Independent Living Unit, I noticed a big difference in the residents. These residents were all positive and trying to gain their independence. I was finished with school and spent my days searching for a job. After a month of searching, I was hired at a local restaurant making $8.00 per hour. Today I am still employed there. I have also made the decision to enroll at IvyTech Community College soon. I plan to major in Business Administration. While I am still at Wernle I want to learn as much as I am able to and definitely want to stay out of trouble. I think I have learned a lot and I am pretty close to being discharged so that I can use the skills I learned here in the outside world. I am on the Spring season in my Seasons of Healing program here and soon I will only have the summer season left to complete. I am saving up money to enroll in the Fresh Start Program. My plans for the future are to stay in this Program until I have enough money saved to live on my own. I have committed myself to stay in school and obtain my degree even if everything else fails. I do want to improve the relationships I once had with my family and friends. I am confident that in time I will find the right person, get married, and start a family of my own some day. I want to at least get a Bachelor's Degree and manage or even own my own business. If I do what is right here and do not give up, I will get my life back on track. I feel that I am already in the right direction.

A Valentine From Jesus

I love you.

You are mine.

Your name is written upon My heart.

Your prayers are precious to Me.

Your life is in My hands.

I am always with you.

I am nearer to you than your own heart.

I gave My life so that you might live forever with Me.

All I ask in return is your love. Be My Valentine, ~ Jesus ~

P.S. You are precious in my sight, and honored, and I love you. ~ Isaiah 43:4 ~

APPEAL TO THE HEART by Max Lucado

Remember the church at Corinth? A problem on every pew? Territorially selfish. Morally shameless. Theologically reckless. How do you help a congregation like that? You can correct them. Paul did. You can instruct them, which Paul did. You can reason with them; Paul did. But at some point you stop talking to the head and start appealing to the heart. And Paul did that. I Corinthians 13:4-7 says, “Love. . .bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” He saw only one solution—love! Don’t we need the same prescription today? Someday there will be a community where everyone behaves and no one complains. But it won’t be this side of heaven. So what do we do? We reason. We confront. We teach. But most of all, we love.
