FROM REV. DIANE KRAUSZER
Dear beloved,
As winter draws near and summer fades away, we work towards
putting are garden away for the summer, and looking ahead at other
ways we can help those in need and shine light in our community and
our world.
Every year, the ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America)
does a state-wide God’s Work Our Hands day. The goal on this day
is to work together as a congregation on one or more particular areas
to brighten our community. This year, Trinity will be sending one
more load of fresh vegetables to our local food pantry, preparing
laundry soap bags, and sending thank you baskets to our first
responders. We hope you will all come and be a part of this!
Thank you to all of you who came out and recycled at the fair! The
state fair really appreciated those extra hands. God is good! We hope
to see you again next year.

Work, Our Hands shirts. Come out and
see us!
CONFIRMATION Confirmation class (6, 7, 8 grade) will be

with Table of Grace Lutheran Church. If
you are interested in having your child in
confirmation, please see Pastor Diane.
PASTOR AWAY Pastor will be on gone September 6-9 and
20-25. If you need pastoral help during
this time, please contact the church to be
directed for pastoral help.
GOD’S WORK, OUR HANDS God’s Work, Our Hands Day is on
September 11. You have three ways to
participate in this event. You can help
work out in our community garden,
prepare laundry soap bags, or you can help
prepare food baskets. For the food baskets,
we need store bought goodies, preferably
snack size versions: crackers, cheeze its,
popcorn, chips, cookies, trail mix, Granola
bars, licorice, applesauce, pudding, fruit
cups, yogurt bites, cheese, cheese n
crackers...(we need SNACKS of ALL
kinds. - not homemade this time - the back
to school lunch items are perfect - we need
A LOT!!! Enough to fill 4 to 6 good sized
baskets!!! Also, toilet paper and three
buckets of powder laundry soap are
needed. -Lynn Anselm
Article continued from page 1 From Rev. Diane Krauszer
In what ways can we shine light as individuals? When you see, hear, and read about a
need, ask yourself, ―How can I shine some light?‖ One small act can make a big
difference. In Philippians 2:4, God says, ―Let each of you look not only to his own
interests, but also to the interests of others.‖ The interests of others ought to be our
interests too. Certainly we look out for ourselves, but how can we turn a blind eye when
others have needs? There is a certain genius in generosity because God gives back what
we let pass through our hands, but if we hold tight with clinched fists what we have, God
cannot pour more into hands that are already clinging tightly to what they hold.
This past week, a hungry guy stopped by asking if he could have some food. The fridge
was emptied and light shined as he ate a hot meal, and took water and a food bag to go. I
ask you this week, to find a way to shine some light, and do as God wants in Mark 12:31.
Love your neighbor as yourself. For most of us, our neighbor is the house on the left and
the house across the street. But in the Bible, our neighbor isn’t just the family across the
street. Our neighbor is everyone!
Peace,
Pastor Diane
COMMUNITY GARDEN UPDATE
―What an amazing garden growing summer it's been. I think we've been meeting every
Wednesday since the middle of June. Harvesting most of the time. Even with just a
handful of people, a lot of food has been picked and donated to the Palmer food bank. No
matter how hot and sweaty a day it's been, getting out in the garden is a great way to wind
down at the end of the day. And eat good food with great company.‖
Betty Hein
―I made it to most of the "weed and feeds" this summer. I was not up to working out in
the garden with the others, due to my health. What I did instead was to support them by
setting up the food, serving it and helping with clean up. There were about 9-10
"regulars", and a few others that would stop by every once in a while. Friendship, fun, and
amazing vegetables would be how I would describe the weekly weed and feeds.‖
Lynn Anselm
―The garden!! This was the first year I had a garden since I was a child living with my
parents in Wisconsin!! It brought back some wonderful memories! Even though my
childhood garden was 20'x40' and no raised beds, there were lots of helpers in the garden.
My grandparents shared the garden with us. So four adults and 3 kids plus a dog and 3
cats were always out there at one time or another.
It was a little different here with my small raised bed, which actually helped me as much
as the plants, since having arthritis and a knee surgery makes the ground a little "too" far
away! But this little raised bed was a great producer! Markie was here to help, and
thankfully others at church were there to support each other with weeding and harvesting.
I am most thankful for the ability to share my harvest with the food bank since there was a
little (lot) too much food for just me and my three kids! It was a great experience, and am
looking forward to next year’s planting already!‖

a.m. We have classes for 3 years+. Kids
meet in the Upper Room and adults meet
in the Trinity Room.
STEWARDSHIP QUOTE My take on tithing in America is that it’s a
middle-class way of robbing God. Tithing
to the church and spending the rest on
your family is not a Christian goal. It’s a
diversion. The real issue is: How shall
we use God’s trust fund—namely, all we
have—for His glory? In a world with so
much misery, what lifestyle should we call
our people to live? What example are we
setting? -John Piper

THE PLUME ACADEMY CLASS
We are happy to offer the following classes for fall, 2016. If you would like to
participate, please submit a registration form on www.matsuplume.com/academy. All
fees will be collected the first day of class.
Exploring the Spirituality of Dr. Who
Say the word Tardis, Daleks, Cybermen or Ood, and many people immediately
respond, ―Dr. Who? Are you a Who fan, too?‖ Often they will then launch into a
discussion of their favorite Who incarnation or show. Dr. Who is a cultural
phenomenon around the world. Woven through many episodes are theological and
spiritual assumptions and comments. In this class, participants will choose episodes to
watch together and then we will discuss all the theological and spiritual assumptions
and comments that we can uncover. This will be an eight week course. The first class
will be held on Sunday October 2, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. in the Trinity Room at Trinity
Lutheran Church. Following dates, times, and location to be decided by the
participants.
Requirements: To already be familiar with the Dr Who series launched in 2005. We
will need at least 6 registrants for this class.
Class leader: Rev. Diane M. Krauszer
Cost: $50
Story Telling In each of our classes, we will explore storytelling techniques, what to say and what to
leave unsaid, narrative plots, how to layer meaning, and how to weave faith and
proclamation into storytelling. Bottom line, we’ll learn to tell stories of this great
intersection of God’s acts in the big and the small of human life. Each experience is
somehow connected to this intersect and is relayed to others through narrative. So, let’s
tell stories!
Class Leader: Rev. Tori Hicks

different aspects and practices of the Christian life. The class will work from a book
that includes the weekly readings, scriptures, and spiritual exercises that take anywhere

time we worship, share about our week and the exercises we all have done and then do
an additional exercise all together.
Class Leader: Rev. Henry Woodall

Covenant Bible Study
Covenant is a 24-week, in depth group Bible study in which people read and discuss the
Bible together; learning how to love God—and others—better. The program covers
both Testaments—discussing books from each in a way that shows the
interconnectedness of scripture as a whole. It differs from other Bible studies in that it
emphasizes the biblical concept of covenant as a unifying pattern throughout the entire
Bible and underscores the unique relationship that God chooses with us as God's
people.
Class Leader: Rev. Dr. Robert Hicks
Times and Locations: We will offer the following course options (10 minimum per
group):
Tuesday mornings 10:30 a.m. – noon at Palmer United Methodist Church

THE KUWAA MISSION PRAYER LETTER
As the summer draws to a close we at the Kuwaa Mission hope that you had an
enjoyable summer and were able to spend some quality family time and enjoy God’s
great outdoors.
The Board of the Kuwaa Mission greatly appreciates all the support that we have
received over the past year. July marked the beginning of a new fiscal year for us and
as a result of matching funds from employers we start this year on a very sound fiscal
footing. As you consider your financial gifts to the Kuwaa Mission please check with
your employer to see if they have matching funds program. We are a 501c3
organization with the IRS and can provide you, or your employer, with any information
required. This program makes a huge difference in the amount of work we are able to
do to serve the Kuwaa people.
I also ask each of you to consider being a ―Mission Member‖ in your congregation. As
a ―Mission Member‖ we ask you to carry the Kuwaa Mission program directly and
frequently to your congregation by speaking about the work we have accomplished, our
financial needs, and the programming we have planned for upcoming seasons. We will
provide you with brochures, videos, fundraising ideas and all the prayer support one
could ask for. We do receive good congregational support from congregations across
the US but we need to increase this support base. While we realize that much of our
individual support comes through the local congregation we also have a line item in our
budget for ―congregational support‖ and we are looking to increase our financial
support here as well. As a ―Mission Member‖ we also ask you to visit other
congregations in your geographical area and spread the word about the Kuwaa
Mission. There are many congregations that have a mission program, or would like to
start one, and just need a bit of direction. Every new congregation that supports our
work is a valuable member of our team. Please contact our congregational coordinator:
Karen Voris at [email protected] and we will work with you to serve the
Kuwaa people.
Many, if not most, of you receiving this newsletter use ―Facebook‖. Please consider
passing on the work of the Kuwaa Mission to your ―friends‖. The Kuwaa Mission
website receives many ―hits‖ and the more ―hits‖ we receive the more support we will
receive, both financial and prayer support.
This coming work season in Liberia I will be travelling into the Kuwaa area with the
Bishop of the Lutheran Church in Liberia, Rev. Dr. Daniel Jensen Seyenkulo, and
meeting with the Kuwaa tribal leaders and the local commissioner to thank them for the
support we have been given and to work with them to increase the support base with the
people. Rev. Seyenkulo is one of the founders of the Kuwaa Mission and it is through
our excellent relationship with the Lutheran Church in Liberia (LCL) that we have been
able to reach out to so many Liberians. Bishop Seyenkulo thanked me today for all the
support we have been able to provide to the Kuwaa people working with and through
the LCL. It is because of people like you that we have accomplished so much.
Thank you again for your support and please contact Karen Voris for additional
information on how you can become a ―Mission Member‖.
