1 Now Jehoshaphat had great riches and honor;and he made a marriage alliance with Ahab.2 After some years he went down to Ahab inSamaria. Ahab slaughtered an abundance ofsheep and oxen for him and for the people whowere with him, and induced him to go upagainst Ramoth-gilead. 3 King Ahab of Israelsaid to King Jehoshaphat of Judah, "Will yougo with me to Ramoth-gilead?" He answeredhim, "I am with you, my people are yourpeople. We will be with you in the war." 4 ButJehoshaphat also said to the king of Israel,"Inquire first for the word of the LORD."5 Then the king of Israel gathered the prophetstogether, four hundred of them, and said tothem, "Shall we go to battle against Ramoth-gilead, or shall I refrain?" They said, "Go up;for God will give it into the hand of the king."6 But Jehoshaphat said, "Is there no otherprophet of the LORD here of whom we mayinquire?" 7 The king of Israel said toJehoshaphat, "There is still one other by whomwe may inquire of the LORD, Micaiah son ofImlah; but I hate him, for he never prophesiesanything favorable about me, but onlydisaster." Jehoshaphat said, "Let the king notsay such a thing." 8 Then the king of Israelsummoned an officer and said, "Bring quicklyMicaiah son of Imlah."

24 Micaiah replied, "You will find out on thatday when you go in to hide in an innerchamber." 25 The king of Israel then ordered,"Take Micaiah, and return him to Amon thegovernor of the city and to Joash the king's son;26 and say, 'Thus says the king: Put this fellowin prison, and feed him on reduced rations ofbread and water until I return in peace.'"27 Micaiah said, "If you return in peace, theLORD has not spoken by me." And he said,"Hear, you peoples, all of you!" 28 So the kingof Israel and King Jehoshaphat of Judah wentup to Ramoth-gilead. 29 The king of Israel saidto Jehoshaphat, "I will disguise myself and gointo battle, but you wear your robes." So theking of Israel disguised himself, and they wentinto battle. 30 Now the king of Aram hadcommanded the captains of his chariots, "Fightwith no one small or great, but only with theking of Israel." 31 When the captains of thechariots saw Jehoshaphat, they said, "It is theking of Israel." So they turned to fight againsthim; and Jehoshaphat cried out, and the LORDhelped him. God drew them away from him,32 for when the captains of the chariots sawthat it was not the king of Israel, they turnedback from pursuing him. 33 But a certain mandrew his bow and unknowingly struck the kingof Israel between the scale armor and thebreastplate; so he said to the driver of hischariot, "Turn around, and carry me out of thebattle, for I am wounded." 34 The battle grewhot that day, and the king of Israel proppedhimself up in his chariot facing the Arameansuntil evening; then at sunset he died.

1 King Jehoshaphat of Judah returned in safety to his house in Jerusalem. 2 Jehu son of
Hanani the seer went out to meet him and said to King Jehoshaphat, "Should you help the
wicked and love those who hate the LORD? Because of this, wrath has gone out against
you from the LORD. 3 Nevertheless, some good is found in you, for you destroyed the
sacred poles out of the land, and have set your heart to seek God." 4 Jehoshaphat resided at
Jerusalem; then he went out again among the people, from Beer-sheba to the hill country of
Ephraim, and brought them back to the LORD, the God of their ancestors. 5 He appointed
judges in the land in all the fortified cities of Judah, city by city, 6 and said to the judges,
"Consider what you are doing, for you judge not on behalf of human beings but on the
Lord's behalf; he is with you in giving judgment. 7 Now, let the fear of the LORD be upon
you; take care what you do, for there is no perversion of justice with the LORD our God, or
partiality, or taking of bribes."

““SSOO MMUUCCHH TTOO TTHHAANNKK GGOODD FFOORR!!””
One of the “Old School” gospelnumbers that our Sanctuary Choir used to singsays, “I have so much to thank God for!” Thewords of that song are words that I want youto take into this week’s season of givingthanks.
I do not have enough space in onebulletin and there are not enough pages in yourweekly alert to ongoing ministries for me toadequately express my thanksgiving to God forall of the things that I have to be thankful forthis year. I start off my list of thanksgiving, however, by thanking God for you! (Don’tworry! This is a “short list.” [Smile])
I thank God for you and I thank Godfor the way in which you have thrown yourarms around me and my family in the loss ofmy mother. I thank God for each of yourgestures of kindness. I thank God for yourgifts. I thank God for your prayers. I thankGod for your support and I thank God for yourunderstanding.
I am grateful to God that you allowedRamah and me the space to get away and togrieve in private. That gift is an invaluablegift and I thank you for your support.
I thank God for the gift of the twoparents that God gave me. God gave me a
praying father and a praying mother. Godgave me a preaching father and a preachingmother.
God gave me parents who introducedme to Jesus Christ and that gift changed mylife forever! I have so much to thank God for!
I look forward to seeing you onThanksgiving morning. I want you to continuethe tradition of making sure your childrenunderstand who they are as African Americansand how much we have to be thankful to Godfor as African Americans.
I will see you at the Umoja Karamuservice.
Respectfully and lovingly yours,
Pastor Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr.

In the 1960s, Dr. King stated, “A riot is atbottom, the language of the unheard.” In essence, those who riot declare that you will hear me one wayor another. Nowhere is this more evident than in theriots occurring in France. Young persons who aresick and tired of the government’s and society’sexclusive, supremacist, racist attitude toward them, are rising up and making themselves heard. It iseasy to decry the riots as just troublemakers who areoff on a tangent. However, when one reviews thehistory of how Arabs and other immigrants fromNorth Africa have been treated since World War II,one may begin to understand the unrest a bit better.
The children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of immigrants, who have helpedsustain the economy of France, have been repaidwith government neglect and unfair treatment. Theyare warehoused in suburban tenements known ascites, so that their dark skins will not pollute thecenter cities of France. Police brutality is rampant, and is actually the catalyst for the current riots.Once arrested or controlled by the police, they aresearched, beaten and degraded. Moreover, as inApartheid South Africa, police frequently check theirpapers because of their dark skin. It is a commonoccurrence for police to demand that they lower theireyes, as in the Jim Crow South, as if dark-skinnedpeople are not even worthy to look in the eyes ofwhite policemen who are supposed to serve andprotect.
This shows us that racism is not just anAmerican entity, but a worldwide occurrence. Infact, if names were switched, it could very well beAmerica rather than France. While I am notadvocating for riots, I am saying that I understandwhy the riots are occurring. Again, as Dr. Kingstated, “A riot is at bottom, the language of theunheard.”

What do you do with the natural orspiritual talents the Lord has given you? Youcan either use them wisely, let them liedormant, waste or even abuse them. Yet, asyou may exercise those talents in your localchurch, the Lord may choose to prune youback so that you may bear more fruit.
For example, you may teach aSunday School class, be a lead singer in aplay or play a musical instrument. However, you may have become so skillful andexperienced that you begin to act and relymore on your own strength and wisdomrather than depending upon the Lord. In thatcondition, you have branched out too farfrom the vine. It’s then that the Lord maydecide to change your position in the churchand assign you to a task of which you knowlittle. You say, “Lord, I was doing so well, why did you move me?”
Remember, in order to produceplumper and richer grapes, we prunegrapevines so that the new branches growcloser to the vine. In the same way, Goddesires to prune you by placing you in aposition in which you must draw closer toHim, the True Vine.
