The ECE Committee Would Like Your Input! Over the past weeks the Early Childhood Committee (Principal Jim Moeller, TSL teachers

Michelle Wegner and Aubrey Hayes, Trinity member Steve Strucely, St. Luke’s member Rich Parkhurst, Pastor Dustin Yahnke) have been meeting to prepare a survey on future ECE needs and plans. We very much would like input from our congregational members! To that end we would invite our Trinity and St. Luke’s members to participate in a short survey.

The survey is short and easy to take. It will be completed electronically using Survey Monkey. You can access the survey one of several ways. On your personal electronic device or computer/laptop type in the address www.tinyurl.com/tsl-ece which will take you to the survey.

A second way is to scan the following logo into your phone and then take the survey:

For those who do not have electronic devices we will have kiosks in the narthexes of both congregations on the following Sundays –September 3, and September 10. Members of the committee will be there to give assistance in completing the survey.

The survey is now open and will be available through Sunday, September 10. We encourage all members of our supporting congregations to compete the survey so we can receive your input as we plan for the future of an expanded ECE program at TSL. We will also be surveying past, present, and future families in our ECE program on the types of services they would like to have in an ECE program. These surveys will take place face-to-face. If your family is selected we look forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas. Senior Choir Schedule

The Senior Choir will once again glorify Christ and proclaim his Gospel in song. The first scheduled singing date is October 1 for the 10:30 service. The two practices before that singing date are September 19 and 26 at 7:00. Anyone may participate to glorify Christ for his grace and mercy! If you have any questions, you may contact the director, Naomi Fritz.

Our Practice of Close Communion

We believe from Acts 2:42 and 1 Corinthians 10:16-17 that Holy Communion is the highest expression of our fellowship with Jesus and with each other, and that God intends the sacrament to be celebrated together by Christians who accept all the teachings of the Bible. If you are a guest and are not yet a member of the WELS/ELS fellowship, we invite you to learn more about us and, most of all, about the Savior whom God has sent. Then join with us at his communion table. To learn more about our faith and fellowship, speak with Pastor Brauer or Pastor Yahnke.

Personal preparation for Holy Communion can be found on page 156 in front of the hymnal.

Communion in Front Rows If you are unable to walk up to the rail for Communion, you may be seated in one of the

front pews during the service. The pastors and elder will come down to the front pews to distribute Communion.

Asleep in Jesus Eric Vertein entered eternal glory with Christ on Tuesday, August 29. A Christian funeral

was held yesterday in our sanctuary. Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord (Revelation 14:13).

Grants for Trinity Students The Trinity Trusts and Estate Planning Committee will meet September 20 to disburse

grants to Trinity students. Those studying at Martin Luther College and Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary receive automatic grants. Parents with children at Lakeside Lutheran, Luther Prep and Trinity-St. Luke’s may apply for grants. The forms are available in the hallway next to the bulletin board outside the secretary’s office (or you may request one from either of the pastors).

New Bible Instruction Class A new Bible Instruction Class (BIC) will begin on Tuesday, September 5 at 7 pm. Pastor

Yahnke will lead the class through basic truths and doctrines found in the Bible. It would be an excellent way to encourage your friends and relatives to take a closer look at what you believe. Our members are also invited to come to the class to refresh their knowledge of what the Bible teaches.

Night of Music and Stories – How in the world does a committed atheist become a WELS Lutheran? Come and enjoy

an evening with Christian songwriter and former unbeliever Chris Driesbach on September 12 at 7 pm. Chris tells all about God’s grace with original songs, stories and pictures in a one-hour concert at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Farmington. Please join us for a night of music, storytelling, and fun!

Church Picnic

The annual outdoor worship service and church picnic will be held on Sunday, September 17 at 10:30 and noon. This year we will hold the service and picnic right across the street at Veterans’ Park. With this change of venue we will be more visible to our neighbors. Since we will be meeting in this park, we will need some volunteers to help carry tables and chairs across the street. We are also looking for people to organize some games. You can find a signup sheet for these volunteer opportunities in the Fireside Room. The picnic lunch will have the main dish and drinks provided. You are asked to bring a side dish or dessert.

College Students Away from Home Students and parents, we are looking for the addresses of any members who are

studying away from home. We would like to keep in touch with them throughout the school year. Whether you or your child are going away for the first time or not, we would like to get updated information. These names and addresses are sent on to our synod’s Campus Ministry who will be glad to send them free copies of Forward in Christ and Meditations along with putting them in touch with the campus ministry pastor near them. As you get these new addresses, please email them to the church office at [email protected].

Pioneer News Is your child interested in becoming a Pioneer? What's a Pioneer? A Pioneer is someone

who likes to learn something new! Would you like your child to learn new skills and have fun with their friends while hearing God's Word too? If so, then Pioneers might be for your child(ren)! Your Pioneer group is open to all children in Kindergarten-Grade 8 (public or private school), both girls and boys. If you'd like to find out more about the program, PLEASE join us for our first meeting on September 5, 6:30-8 pm, at the St.Luke's Clark Street school commons area. We will be starting the year off with a BANG! We will be making our own paper rockets and launching them into the sky, plus refreshments and God's Word. God has truly blessed this Pioneer program and we are passing the blessings onto its members. This year’s membership fee is only $10, half the cost in the past. We are going to have a BLAST of a year, so join us on September 5!

Fall Trim and Clearing When: Saturday September 9, 8:00am (rain date: Tuesday, September 12)

Time: 8:00 – 10:00am (5:30 – 7:30 rain date) Come for a morning of trimming and clearing of the church and school plantings; we need to give our plants a fall haircut. Enjoy fellowship and help keep our grounds beautiful. We will be working from 8:00-10:00. Tools needed: Hedge trimmers, electrical cords, pruners, loppers, rakes, wheelbarrows and gloves. We will also need a couple of stepladders to trim the bushes in the front of church. Please sign up on the sheet in the Fireside Room with tools you are able to bring.

Call Troy Thede with any questions (920-253-6062).

Reformation 500 In 2017 we are marking an anniversary number that none of us could achieve in a

lifetime: five hundred. The number takes us back to 1517, the traditional year marking the beginning of the Lutheran Reformation. We thank Christ for all he accomplished, and still accomplishes, through the Lutheran Reformation. Our congregation will be marking the five hundredth anniversary of the Reformation in several ways:

Services beginning after Labor Day (and running through October) will have Reformation themes that highlight the blessings Christ gives us as Lutherans. We will incorporate video clips from the Luther movie (A Return to Grace) with comments by WELS scholars.

Sunday Bible classes in October will study Reformation-based themes with longer clips from the Luther movie.

We will mark the five hundredth anniversary of the Lutheran Reformation in our services on October 29. Trinity members are invited to attend the Western Wisconsin District Reformation service in Madison on October 29 at 4:00 (to be held at the Alliant Energy Center).

Members will be encouraged to participate in spiritual growth efforts starting this fall. During the month of October we will make available a reading/prayer plan utilizing Luther’s Small Catechism. Beginning in November, we will promote reading the New Testament.

We intend to show the full-length Luther movie A Return to Grace in a large-group setting this fall. The tentative arrangement is viewing the movie on October 1 at

the Western Avenue gymnasium, starting at 6:30. Stay tuned for more details.
