TROPICAL RAINFOREST
Yoanna Rodriguez
LOCATION
Tropical rainforests are
located in a band around the
equator .
This 3,000 mile wide band is
called the ‘’tropics”.
CLIMATE
Their average temperature
reaches up to 24-30c.It is
always warm , and there is
no real seasons.
RAINFALL
The tropical rain forest is
very humid because of all
the rainfall it gets . It
receives about 200-450cm of
rain per year. That is about 8
to 14 feet of rain.
SOIL
The soil in a tropical
rainforest is very low in
nutrients . It is also very
thin.
PLANTS
The tropical rainforest is the
most biologically diverse
biome . It has many plants
like Bengal Bamboo ,
coconut tree , strangler figs ,
Lianas , Epiphytes ,
Bromeliads , boigainvillea ,
etc.
ANIMALS
There is a wide variety of animals
that adapt to their surroundings
in many ways. Most of the
animals camouflage to their
environment like the Poison
Arrow frog , 2-toed sloth ,
Orangutan , spider monkey ,
cicada , bullet ant , walking stick ,
bird eating snake , whip tail lizard
, chestnut-mandibled toucan , etc.
LEVELS OF RAINFOREST
There are 4 layers of the Tropical Rain
forest. #1The emergent layer-The tallest
trees are the emergents , towering as
much as 200 feet above the forest floor
with trunks that measure up to 16 feet
around. #2The canopy layer-This is the
primary layer of the forest and forms a
roof over the 2 remaining layers.
#3Understory layer-little sunshine
reaches this area so the plants have to
grow larger leaves to reach the sunlight.
#4Forest floor-Its very dark down here .
Almost no plants grow in this area .
