counry’s direcion. People are rusraed, and heir rusra-

ion is revealing isel on he poliical scene.

    I wasn’ even a year ago—November las year—when Repub-

licans scored a hisoric elecion vicory. They gained conrol o

he Senae; hey increased heir majoriy in he House o is larg-

es since 1928; hey even picked up wo

governors’ seas. Many viewed ha resul

    as dissaisacion over Presiden Barack

    Obama’s unpopular policies. Republi-

cans were jubilan, confiden  in heir

power o begin reversing he naion’s

direcion. Sen. Mich McConnell called i

“a chance o begin o save his counry.”

    So much or ha.

Republicans promised o deund Obamacare or repeal i. They

promised o sop he flow o illegal immigrans and sand up o

unlawul execuive orders. They promised o reduce rillion-dol-

lar deficis and o check America’s runaway deb.

They have done none o hese hings. Republican conrol

o Congress has done virually nohing o sop or even slow he

Obama adminisraion rom doing whaever i wans.

And i’s no jus ha he presiden will do anyhing necessary

even ouside he law, o ulfill his agenda. Congressional Republi-

cans have shown a sunning lack o will. They are no using even

hose ools hey do  have o sop him. The mos recen sunner

was heir ailure o moun any real opposiion o he Iran nuclear

deal, wha Trumpet edior in chie Gerald Flurry called “he wors

oreign policy deal ever made by America.”

    compleely ill ounded.

Now we are in he mids o anoher presidenial elecion cycle—

and i is wild. In many ways i reflecs Americans’ rusraion.

The op Republican conender is a man who would likely never

be considered a serious candidae under normal circumsances.

Bu people appreciae him because he is everyhing ha he

Republican esablishmen is no. He presens himsel as a ough

negoiaor. He says he can’ be bough. He won’ be walked on—i

you atack him, he atacks you back. He’s no poliically correc. He pus he media in heir place. And he coninually alks abou

he ac ha he’s a winner. He sells opimism, and leads people

o hink he can acually ge hings done. When he says he will

srenghen he miliary, build a wall, make America a respeced

naion again—i doesn’ sound like mere poliical rheoric: Peo-

ple believe i. And hey are so disenchaned wih poliics as usual

ha hey’re willing o overlook his man’s considerable flaws—

his arrogance, his narcissism, his public, pety, childish insuls.

The nex op wo Republican candidaes are also poliical ou-

siders—a brain surgeon and a ormer business execuive. Afer

wo elecions los by middle-o-he-road, mainsream Republi-

can esablishmen candidaes, voers are clearly ed up.

On he Democra side, he op wo candidaes are a womanwhom a large majoriy o Americans don’ rus—hanks o years

o scandals and a curren invesigaion—and an avowed

socialis. The Wall Street Journal  did an analysis o his man’s

    proposals—governmen-run healh care or every American;

large sums o rebuild roads and bridges; expanded Social

Securiy; ree uiion a public colleges—and ound ha hey

would cos $18 trillion in governmen spending.

How confiden are you ha he person who emerges rom

his nex presidenial elecion will acually be able o solve  he

    problems plaguing he Unied Saes?

I wached a air amoun o he Republican debae a ew weeks

back: 11 people on sage, all rying o make a wity commen, giv-

ing he sound bie ha will bump up heir poll numbers a ewpoins, jabbing a and accusing each oher, boasing abou hem-

selves, conradicing each oher over supposed acs. was in

he middle, goading he candidaes ino argumens wih ques-

ions like, What did you think when he said you couldn’t be elected

    with a face like yours?

I was a bizarre mix o arrogance and disracions and non-

sense. And snaged the biggest ratings in its history. That   is

wha cares abou—no abou wheher he even ruly reveals

    he candidaes’ leadership credenials.

This is supposed o help us know who will make he bes pres-

    iden?

I find some o hese individuals impressive in some ways. Bu

judging by he shifs in poll numbers afer he debae, my per-

sonal opinion abou wha migh benefi he counry differed con-

siderably rom wha apparenly impressed many oher people.

Do Americans really know how o elec a leader?

“An elecion is no a populariy cones, or an award or show-

manship,” Thomas Sowell recenly wroe. “I you wan o ul-

fill your duy as a ciizen, hen you need o become an inormed

voer. And i you are no inormed, hen he mos parioic hing

you can do on elecion day is say home. Oherwise your voe,

based on whims or emoions, is playing Russian roulete wih he

    ae o his naion.”

Here’s an imporan quesion: Are he qualiies ha cause

someone o sand ou among a sea o oher candidaes really he

same qualiies ha qualiy someone o lead? How imporan, or

example, is he abiliy o deliver a solid one-liner atacking an

    opponen?

Are arrogance and narcissism good qualiies in a leader? I

would argue ha we have remendous evidence o he conrary

in America’s governmen oday. Ye he polls suges ha many

Americans sill believe i is a remendous poliical virue. How much do Americans really know abou he candidaes?

Two presidenial elecions ago, Americans chose a man whom

Tom Brokaw admited he media hadn’ really veted. People

bough ino an idea o wha hey hough or hoped he would be,

while ignoring several realiies. For example, seven in 10 Ameri-

cans hough he would improve race relaions in he U.S. Was ha

    belie based on ruh?

How confiden are you ha you know he ruh abou hese

curren candidaes? The poliical process is disored by lies ped-

dled by he candidaes abou hemselves and abou each oher. I

is disored by money, which brings candidaes o he ron who

have i and seamrolls hose who don’, regardless o heir qualifi-

caions. I is also heavily disored by media reporing. And in he end, even i you do ge he vicories you hink will

benefi he counry, you may sill end up wih a eckless Congress

like he one America has now.

In his book The Wonderful World Tomorrow—What It Will

Be Like , Herber W. Armsrong wroe his: “[T]oo ofen wha we

find is selfish, greedy men o excessive vaniy, ambiious in heir

lus or rule, scheming o ge heir hands on he hrotle o power

or personal agrandizemen and moneary gain. We find secre

deals, graf, immoraliy, decepion, dishonesy, running rampan

    in high places.

“Governmens promise peace—bu bring wars. They promise

benefis or he people, and hen exrac rom he people he cos

o he benefis plus excessive coss o governmen. Governmenpromises are empy. The people are he pawns who ork over he

money, in order o ge a par o i back. We ail o find in human

governmen any knowledge o lie’s purpose, or disseminaion o

    he rue values.”

How much confidence do you have in America’s poliical pro-

    cess?

America’s orm o governmen is doubless among he bes,

i no he bes, on Earh. I is unparalleled in is design o con-

srain yranny, o proec agains corrupion, o preven lead-

ers rom becoming oo auhoriarian, o preserve accounabil-

iy o he people. And is poliical process is ar beter han hose

under which he vas majoriy o people on Earh live. Alexis de

Tocqueville once wroe, “I here be a counry in he world where

he docrine o he sovereigny o he people can be airly appre-

ciaed … and where is dangers and is advanages may be judged

    ha counry is assuredly America.”

However, recen years have winessed more and more abuses

o power ha undermine  he beneis o America’s governmen,

including he rampling o consiuionally prescribed checks on

power, and rank lawlessness by he judiciary and he execuive

branch. In many ways, he elecion process isel is being hijacked

by acors ha undermine is eeciveness and urn i ino a arce.

lems on he poliicians—bu he ac is, .

The boilerplae campaign rerain is, If we can just get these

bums out, we’ll solve everything! When will we acknowledge ha

he problems are bigger han ha?

And when will we accep responsibiliy or our part  in he

    problems?

America is suffering rom a hos o curses: a broken will, lack

o compeen saesmen, lawless leaders, social breakdown, racia

srie, economic problems. These are curses ha God is bring-

rend: Three or more Palesinians, mosly Eas Jerusalemies,

are daily atacking Israelis—knowing ha hey are likely o die in

he atemp. These are a kind o suicide atacks. They are ar less

devasaing han he bus and resauran and marke bombings

o he Second Iniada, bu hey are moivaed by he assailans’

desire o become maryrs. The upsurge o hese kinds o atacks

is all he more disquieing given ha he overwhelming majoriyo hem are no organized by a error group or known orchesra-

or, bu raher are carried ou by “lone wol ” erroriss.

This simply didn’ happen a his kind o rae during he Sec-

ond Iniada. A is heigh, in he spring o 2002, ha sraegic

onslaugh o errorism was producing horrific suicide bombings

every ew days. Bu oday, we have enered an almos surreal real-

iy o atack afer atack every day, mosly carried ou by young

Palesinians (mosly, bu no only, male) wih no known previous

involvemen in errorism, willing o kill and o die “or Jerusa-

    lem” and “or al-Aqsa.” …

Hamas does no wan o declare all-ou war agains Israel, and

o compleely desroy is relaions wih he Palesinian Auhoriy.

Thereore, i apparenly will no iniiae his kind o atack. Thesame can be said o Faah’s well-armed Tanzim orces. Bu i may

well be ha wihin Islamic Jihad, wih he encouragemen o he

Iranians, here may be hose who will—i only o “seal he show”

and show up he “paralysis” o he rival error groups.

Even wihou hese kinds o bombings, he relenless daily

atacks are sowing ear and deep disquie among Israelis. This is a

kind o assaul no previously encounered. The closes preceden

was a rash o knifings in 1990, on a much smaller scale, also moi-

vaed by concern or osensible hreas o he al-Aqsa Mosque. …

[I] is no impossible ha his new wave o error will be

calmed or a while. Bu he undamenal causes will remain. The

coals will keep burning unless or unil here is a subsanive dip-

lomaic process—even in he highly unlikely even ha he spe-

cific issue o al-Aqsa is effecively addressed.

For now, he cycle o violence is well and ruly in moion:

Palesinian atacks, in some cases bringing Jewish “revenge”

atacks, and more Palesinian atacks, and wider Palesinian

demonsraions, wih a rising insisence by Faah ha i play a

role. The PA securiy orces shrink away. The has o inervene

more direcly—as in his week’s operaion by undercover orces

near Bei El. And he deerioraion acceleraes.

Las weekend, afer he error atack near Iamar in which

Naama and Eiam Henkin were gunned down in ron o heirchildren, some 40 incidens o Jewish atacks on Palesinians

were repored. Tha consiues a poren o wha could unold

during he olive-picking season, which is now geting underway

Each week’s Friday prayers consiue anoher even ha poen-

ially widens Palesinian paricipaion in proes and violence in

    Jerusalem and he Wes Bank.

In a classic Cach-22, each new Palesinian error atack

promps pressure on he governmen o cancel work permis

or ens o housands o Wes Bank Palesinians in Israel and or

he imposiion o a closure on he erriories—as Zionis Union’s

Isaac Herzog, o all people, urged on Thursday. Such a sep would

likely be disasrous, and would probably mean ha raher han

3,000 Palesinians paricipaing in Wes Bank proess againshe , we would see 30,000 or more.

A which poin, any atemp o hal a popular uprising would

    become almos impossible.

“Looking at the ongoing violence in Jerusalem today—the abso-

lute inability of the involved parties to solve things by peaceful

means—we can easily see HOW one half of Jerusalem shall be

taken captive in the very near future. THE PRESENT VIOLENCE

IS AN EMBRYO THAT IS ABOUT TO GROW INTO MUCH GREATER

VIOLENCE. That is the critical event prophesied in Zechariah

14:2. We will see this prophecy in Zechariah 14:1-2 fulfilled very

soon. And while it will involve some sickening atrocities andbloodshed, it is directly connected to the greatest news this

ugly Germans” and heir alleged atemp o impose heir views on

I Germany hough he second hal o he year would be

i soon led o significan problems, including an increase in he

As wih he Greek crisis, hings had o ge ugly beore new
