St. Anthony of Padua Church www.sapparish.org 6th Sunday of Easter ~ May 1, 2016 Reflections from the May 2016 Magnificat One of the four holy Doctors of the church, Athanasius defended the orthodox faith against the Arian heresy. A devoted bishop in Alexandria, Egypt, for forty-six years, Athanasius was repeatedly exiled for his defense of the creed of the Council of Nicea. While in exile, Athanasius discovered a deep kinship with the great ascetic Anthony of the Desert. After Anthony’s death, Athanasius recorded the hermit’s story in The Life of Anthony. It proved to be one of the fundamental texts for monasticism in both the East and the West. Athanasius died in 373 and was on of the first non-martyrs, or confessors to be venerated as a saint. Reflecciones de la Magnifica Mayo 2016
Uno de nuestros doctores sagrados de la iglesia, Athanasio defendió la
fe ortodoxa contra la herejía Ariana. Un devoto obispo en Alejandria, Egipto
Atanasio fue exilado repetidamente por su defensa del credo en el Consejo de
Nicea. Mientras en exilio, Atanasio descubrió una afinidad profunda con el
gran Antonio del Desierto. Después de la muerte de Antonio, Athanasio grabo
la historia del hermitano en La Vida de Antonio. Se ha convertido en uno de
los textos fundamentales para el monasterio en el Oriente y Occidente.
Atanasio murió en 373 y fue uno de los primeros no mártires o confesores ha
ser venerados como santo.
