Dear Friends,
The information we received so far from our member amusement parks located in
various regions, the footfall in the summer season for almost all the parks
remained unaltered, if not more, compared to previous year.
It appears therefore, that global recession and economic slow down has not yet
impacted the amusement park industry in a big way in India unlike what has
happened in the Western countries. Let us hope for the best and we should go
ahead with our future plans cautiously with continuous cost cutting and cost
reduction measures to keep our companies healthy at all times.
Our much awaited Ernst & Young's Market Survey report on “Amusement Park
Industry in India” has just been received. It is very informative and would be
useful to all. Briefly, the Market analysis shows that this industry will be
growing at a rapid pace and with large investment the number of Amusement
Parks in India as well as footfall/revenue and employment generation will get
more than doubled by the year 2020. Please obtain your copy of this report from
IAAPI head quarters in Mumbai. Any eligible Company from India or from
abroad who would from now onwards enroll themselves as member of IAAPI for
3 years at a time will also get this report from IAAPI head quarters.
As requested by various amusement parks in Asia, IAAPA had organized a full
day Safety Training Programme during IAAPA Asian Attraction Expo in Seoul.
The entire programme and the expo were educative and informative. Similarly
IAAPI is also conducting safety training programmes in all the regions in India.
As we have always believed “safety” is the “key word” and is of “paramount
importance” for success of any amusement park and we are sure our members are
maintaining all the safety norms in all their fields of operation.
With warm regards

ndians are family oriented by nature and Family Entertainment Centres(FEC) are a natural outlet
for Indian families to spend their leisure time. Multiplexes were granted licenses in Maharashtra Iwith a condition that there should be an entertainment center within the multiplex in addition to the
cinema screens. This gave a fillip to FECs.
Family Entertainment Centres directly and indirectly generate employment. However, State
Governments are levying varying punitive taxes and entertainment duties on FECs which is adversely
affecting the growth of this industry. Even a sport like pool/billiards was heavily taxed at Rs.5,000/- per
table per month bringing down the number of such parlours in Mumbai from 2000 to just a handful.
Just as restaurants & pubs are representing to the government to extend their operating hours in the
same manner, FECs can collectively use the platform of IAAPI to get their suggestions conveyed to the
proper authorities.
There is considerable interest from foreign companies to participate in the growing family
entertainment business in India. While there is a place for everybody in this industry, now is the time
for small operators to professionalize their operations in order to maintain or grow their operations.
The FEC Committee of IAAPI welcomes all FEC operators to contact the committee regarding their
suggestions and problems.

In keeping with the times and the tremendous growth of the Global Leisure and Amusement sector, the
Indian Leisure and Amusement Industry has come of age over the last few years. Today, 'fun' is serious
business and the Indian industry is poised to not only make rapid progress within the country, but also
to make a global impact like never before.
In India, we see many ambitious projects coming up with an emphasis on being not only innovative but
also unique and that definitely augurs well for the industry. At a global level too, Indian companies and
products - with their inherent strengths of durability, affordability and good value for money - enjoy
great prospects and hold great promise. There is an urgent need to create awareness, not only in
emerging economies but also in the developed countries, about the potential of Indian companies and
products to make business more profitable with relatively lower investments. This will in turn lead to
wider acceptability of our products and gradually the recognition of India as a major and dominant
player in the global amusement sector. A fantastic worldwide opportunity beckons us and we need to
put our heads together and work hard to realize our great potential.
Best Wishes,

wo individual training programs were conducted at
Golden Swan City Club on April 13 and May 18, 2009. TThe topics covered during these sessions were “Enhance
your Communication Skills” and “Team building” respec-
tively.
The prime focus of the Communications Skills session was
to enable the participants to understand the benefits of
developing and enhancing core communication skills and
how a person's individual style of communication creates a
positive or negative impact on the guests visiting the club.
Various activities, role plays and discussion were part of
both the training programs to make them more interesting,
lively and interactive. “Know Your Communication style”
behavioral tool was also used on each participant to make a
detailed analysis of their individual style of communica-
tion.
rihant Industrial Corporation Ltd. conducted training
programs on April 23 and May 14, 2009 for a group of Aover 30 employees.
The subjects chosen by the management were 'Effective
Communication Skills' and 'Team Building'.
In the Team Building session, psychometric tools such as
Team Building Test and activities such as 'Build Tower',
'Survival Scenario' and 'What You Want in Your Team' were
conducted to give maximum learning benefit to the
participants. These two sessions were the start of the series
of 11 sessions to be held at AICL in the coming year! And the
response to sessions was truly encouraging!
* 'Interaction in the session was great. Everybody enjoyed
and ample opportunity was provided for all to participate.
Time allotted to cover the material was very good and
trainer's clarity and presentation was excellent.'
* 'The training session was made lively by striking a good
balance between theoretical and practical knowledge. My
suggestion would be to have a detailed discussion on
personal feedback and evaluation of participants at the end
of session. This would go a long way in enhancing learning
for the participants!'

INDIVIDUAL TRAINING PROGRAMS
13th April, 2009
18th May, 2009
AAPI Eastern Region conducted its quarterly meeting on
May 30, 2009 at Energy Education Park, Kolkata with Mr. IM.L Chamaria at the Chair.
One of the key points discussed during the meet was the need
to increase the IAAPI membership in the Eastern Region.
While it was acknowledged that the region does not have many
amusement parks, efforts must be made to enlist the vendors
and suppliers of various engineering components and spares
manufacturers as IAAPI members so that they can derive
benefit by expanding their business all over India. There are
several Ride components, Fibreglass and Small ride manufac-
turers in West Bengal and since more than 120 dry and water
parks have been set up all over India, the business potential is
increasing day by day.
Mr. Arijit Sengupta, President, IAAPI, was also present in this
meeting and he requested that FECs which have now come up
in large numbers in and around Kolkata should be contacted by
our existing members to enroll them in IAAPI. Besides this,
Architects, Civil Engineering Farms, Clubs and other Service
Sector units can also become members of IAAPI.
During this meeting, IAAPI Eastern Region felicitated the
Excellence Award winners of IAAPI during 2008-09 in various
categories. Savin Kingdom, Rose Valley Real Estate and
Construction Ltd. and Innovators were presented with a
memento each as a token of appreciation from IAAPI Eastern
Region.
It is a practice in Eastern Region that all the regional meetings
are followed by a training program. Accordingly, Mr. Sengupta
made presentation on 'Safety Operations of Amusement
Industry". This was the presentation was made by him during
last CAAPA expo at Zhong Shun and it was appreciated by one
and all since "safety" is of prime importance for all the park
operators and ride manufacturers.

China's Harbin Ice Lantern Festival underwent a radical
change. Since its inception in 1963 one saw sculptures carved
out of huge blocks of ice of iconic Chinese monuments like the
Great Wall etc. This time around the festival had Disney
characters!
Recently the world's most famous ice festival became another
of the world's Disney theme parks, with a Disney licensing
company taking over operations from the local Communist
government. It was the first time that a private company ran
the ice festival. The Walt Disney Company did not actually
operate the ice festival, although it did look over the sculpture
designs to make sure they were in line with the Disney brand
guidelines.
So you had sculptures of Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and
Winnie the Pooh. Snow White replaced snow dragons. Children
wandered through the frozen hallways of Aladdin's Castle
instead of a Qing dynasty palace. “It's a Small World” played in
one corner of the park.
International Association for the Leisure and Entertainment
Industry (IALEI) and the International Association of
Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) have recently
announced their intention to merge.
The IALEI board of directors held a meeting during Fun Expo
in Las Vegas and appointed a task force of members to work out
the details with IAAPA.
IALEI and IAAPA have since signed a memorandum of
understanding. The IAAPA board of directors and membership
of IALEI will vote on a final proposal in May.
The two trade associations believe that their coming together
will allow companies to have the best of both worlds with one
membership. They are both keen on promoting the attractions
of Family Entertainment Centers (FECs).
Six Flags, Inc has entered into an agreement with Trancas
Capital, LLC, the second largest operator of family
entertainment centers in the United States, to manage the
American Adventures family entertainment center, a park
located just north of Atlanta.
American Adventures offers 12 family rides, miniature golf, go-
kart track and the kid-friendly Foam Factory. American
Adventures has proven to be one of Atlanta's premier birthday
party locations.
Six Flags will continue to own the real estate and will enter into
a lease with Trancas, the terms of which have not been
disclosed. Trancas looks forward to lending its family
entertainment center expertise to this property.

China's ice festival changed forever
This festival in Zhaolin Park in its 35th season was a far cry
from the days of candles flickering in ice lanterns. The
Cinderella castle had an escalator running up and an ice slide
running down. The entire park glowed pink and blue and
yellow from neon tubes in the sculptures. A Ferris wheel
dominated the skyline.
Workers hauled chunks of ice out of the Songhua River and
created the Disney characters in two weeks.
