WJHS Cheerleading PurposeThe purpose of the WJHS Cheerleading Squad is to provide an extracurricular activity on campus that aids in the

following:

1. Extracurricular activities are a privilege and not a right for Texas public schools. 2. The WJHS Cheerleading Squad supports all athletic functions, promotes good sportsmanship among the

students and spectators, encourage scholarship, set an example of citizenship, and be an exemplary role-model worthy of the position.

3. A fundamental element of this program is for the cheerleaders to be in front of the fans to perform and crowd lead to promote unification of the crowd's involvement during athletic events.

4. A cheerleader shall strive to build better relationships between schools by promoting good sportsmanlike conduct and school spirit.

5. A Cheerleader shall cooperate with the coach, game officials, squad members, and teachers. 6. A Cheerleader should be a model student and abide by all WISD rules and regulations. 7. A Cheerleader should maintain a solid character in and out of school and reflect only the best on the school

they represent. 8. One of the primary pedagogical purposes of the cheerleading squad is to impart knowledge and skills to

students so that they will learn and model the Whitehouse ISD Standards for Student Conduct found in the Whitehouse ISD District Code of Conduct.

Can I play sports?

Yes!

But, you must split your time 50/50 between cheer and said sport.

Practice days means 50% at sports practice and 50% at cheer.

Gamedays are not usually practice days for us so no conflict there.

Cheer is a TEAM sport and you must be there to practice or we cannot practice fully.

What is a Natural Break?

A natural break is a break in scores that shows a substantial difference.

2. The 74 would show a substantial difference between the other scores.

3. The natural break would then occur after the 80

Grades and Attendance“Why is attendance and GPA part of a candidate’s score?” Attendance and GPA will be on their High School score-sheets next year and we strive to align programs from JH to HS to better serve our students.

Additionally, attendance is an important part of Cheerleading, as it is a team sport, and we cannot practice fully without a full squad.

Finally, keeping grades up is mandatory for cheer, failing grades result in probation, demerits, and possible dismissal. It is important to get a clear understanding of these two very important parts of cheer from the beginning.
