There has been a lot of activity with Accessible Pedestrian Signals (APS) in the last year. Matt Baker, Polara Engineering, Inc. has put together a guide with some visual help with regards to APS placement and orientation.

MUTCD Requirements & Basic Placement:
How is the orientation? Will it properly direct the Pedestrian into the Crosswalk?
NO!
Much Better – Button rotated to orient into the crosswalk!
MUTCD Requirements & Basic Placement:
5Ft from Crosswalk
APS separated by 10 feet (3m) & aligned w/Crosswalk = Rapid Tick
Within 10ft of Curb
APS within 10ft = Speech Walk Message
