TSA Motto

“Learning to Live In A Technical World”

TSA Creed

I believe that Technology Education holds an important place in my life in the technical world. I believe there is a need for the development of good attitudes concerning work, tools, materials, experimentation, and processes of industry.

Guided by my teachers, artisans from industry, and my own initiative, I will strive to do my best in making my school, community state, and nation better places in which to live.

I will accept the responsibilities that are mine. I will accept the theories that are supported by proper evidence. I will explore on my own for safer, more effective methods of working and living.

I will strive to develop a cooperative attitude and will exercise tact and respect for other individuals.

Through the work of my hands and mind, I will express my ideas to the best of my ability.

I will make it my goal to do better each day the task before me, and to be steadfast in my belief in my God, and my fellow Americans.

TSA: Everyone’s A Winner! Page 3

On behalf of the Tennessee Department of Education and the Division of Career & Technical Education, I would like to welcome everyone to Pigeon Forge, host for the 30th Annual TN TSA State Conference. Our conference offers members the opportunity to compete in a wide variety of Technology Engineering Education events, make new friends, develop your leadership abilities, and learn more about TSA! Our conference theme is Tennessee TSA: Everyone’s A Winner! Our team chose this theme to express all the many different ways that our members are winners. By joining our association, learning more about technology, and being a member of your chapter you are a winner! Whether you leave Pigeon Forge with a trophy or not, be proud of yourself and all that you have learned this year. Over the next three days the membership will be competing in 58 events, electing a new set of state officers, and discovering new strengths and talents. I challenge everyone to get to know new members from across the state, and do your best in your competitive events. During the conference take time to thank your advisor, parents, and chaperones for giving you this opportunity. Everyone is expected to fully participate in the all three general sessions, attend delegation meetings, and be on your best behavior. You are representing your school, your parents, and our association! Again, I would like to thank all of our dedicated advisors, state staff, teacher educators, alumni, business and industry partners and distinguished judges for helping to execute this conference. Over the next few days, you will be the unsung heroes. We express our gratitude to you and want you to know how important you are to the effectiveness of this conference. Enjoy our state conference and I hope to see many of you in Orlando, FL at the 30th Annual National TSA Conference June 28-July 2 at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort.

Hello Tennessee TSA! On behalf of the state officer team, I would like extend a genuine welcome to everyone attending this year’s State Conference. Numerous individuals have exerted many hours of conference planning and preparation, which we hope will make the 2008 State Conference as rewarding and enjoyable as possible. While this year’s conference will include all of the great activities it has in years past, it also offers a new addition. New this year, TN TSA will host its very own Leadership Academy. The Academy will give members the ability to become more experienced and effective leaders. I would like to challenge all of you to exert your hardest efforts in events and workshops this week. Challenge yourself to learn as much as possible and to further your abilities as both a listener and leader. This year’s conference presents a multitude of opportunities that can be rewarding during and after our conference has passed. Have fun as you embark on another chapter of your journey through TSA. In addition, this year's conference site, Pigeon Forge, offers a number of exciting experiences around town. Speaking of opportunities, I would like to personally thank you, the membership, for bestowing upon me the amazing opportunity of serving as your State President. The previous two years of leading, and learning, have given me one life altering experience that will stay with me for years to come. Sir Winston Churchill once said, "Success is the ability to go from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm." Even if you do not receive a trophy this week, do not be discouraged. By taking the initiative to prepare and compete in your events, you have already won. Learning from past experience, both success and failures, is the true path to victory. By persisting through the times that you may not 'win,' you learn the importance of dedication, which is integral to all successes. So learn, have fun, and remember that with TN TSA Everyone's a Winner!
