Deadweight Tonnage (DWT) in tons is applied for General cargo, bulk carrier and tankers.

Volume capacity of cargo tanks measure LPG and LNG. Displacement tonnage () is the size of warship. Passenger ships and ferries volume measures the meaning parameter of the

vessel. Gross Tonnage (GT) and Net Tonnage (NT) obey International Convention on

Tonnage Measurement of Ship 1969 (TONNAGE 69) of International Maritime Organization (IMO) forced on 18 July 1982 for new vessel with 12-year phase-in period for existing vessels.

Displacement follow Archimedes’ principle

Lightweight Tonnage is the total of fixed weights, i.e. hull, machinery, outfit and permanent equipment.

Deadweight tonnage includes the total of weight cargo, fuel, lubricating oil, fresh water, stores, passengers and baggage, crew and their effects

Not apply to:1. Any ships under 24 m in length2. Warship3. The ship navigates only on the Great Lakes4. Any ships of 24 m length and larger that do not have in

international voyages
