TRINITY Christian Methodist Episcopal Church
“Accepting the Challenge of Jesus to Be-come and to Make Disciples”
Greetings in the name of the One who calls us to be Ambassadors of God's Kingdom!
I thank my God for the blessings bestowed upon me and my wife, Meliah upon arriving in Decatur, Illinois through the love and warmth of the wonderful men, women, youth and
children assembled here at Trinity.
Over the past several weeks the saints of Trinity have
worked very diligently to prepare another outstanding celebration. We thank the Lord for the tireless efforts and faithful leadership of Sister Modestine White as Chairperson. As we celebrate our Annual Patriotic Musical Tea, we continue to experience God's grace and love through our Christian fellowship as brothers and sisters in Christ. I thank God for this day, because it demonstrates the fruits produced from the common spirit of servitude in our faith community, and shows that Jesus truly continues to be in our midst. I commend all committee chairpersons for the work they have done to make this day special. I offer a special word of thanks to
the Souvenir Booklet committee for their labor of love and time in compiling this wonderful keepsake.
Finally, I thank God for each person who sacrificially gave time, talent and resources to the Trinity
family in order to make this event a success. The Annual Patriotic Tea has a rich history and tradition; it has become one of the hallmark events of the Decatur community. Decatur can take pride in the wonderful diversity of vocal talent that provides soul-stirring singing and music. This event also serves an important function in our
Stewardship campaign. Finally, the Annual Patriotic Tea also gives the disciples of Trinity an
opportunity to honor their ancestral heritage. This great cloud of witnesses have spurred our congregation forward throughout its history. In the spirit of gratitude, I would like to thank you for celebrating with and supporting the
saints at Trinity. It is my prayer that we will continue to be-come ever faithful disciples of Jesus Christ.
Yours in Christ, Pastor Samuel Hutson, III

Rev. Dr. Eugene B. Green
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of
the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also
shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand
in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish

My Fathers Who Art In Heaven
But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning
those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who
have no hope. For if, we believe that Jesus died and rose again,
even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. For
this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are
alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means
precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself will
descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an
archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ
will rise first.

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh
me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the
still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the
paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4 Yea, though I
walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear
no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they
comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the
presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with
oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy
shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in
the house of the LORD for ever.

Have faith in God," Jesus answered. "I tell you the truth, if anyone
says to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not
doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will
be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer,
believe that you have received it, and it will be yours."

Proverbs 17:1-4
Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than a
house full of sacrifices with strife.
A wise servant shall have rule over a son that causeth
shame, and shall have part of the inheritance among the
brethren.
The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but
the LORD trieth the hearts.
A wicked doer giveth heed to false lips; and a liar giveth
ear to a naughty tongue.

When We Ask Why
God's beautiful plan Is sometimes concealed,
But someday His purpose
Will be fully revealed.
Someday God's wisdom
Will make it very plain Why problems were permitted
And how He uses pain.
Disease, tragedy, fear-
Will someday make sense
When God makes all things clear.
We'll see the Lord's purpose From heavens point of view,
And we'll understand
In ways we never knew.
Until we're home with God
Some answers will have to wait. Lord we’ll trust and obey;
Lord help us walk by faith.

WHAT ARE WE DOING WITH OUR FREE TIME
Oh, Father in Heaven, O Saviour Divine What are we doing with our free time? Years ago when we didn’t have very much, we would visit one another and keep in touch. We would laugh and talk, we had peace of mind. We don’t do this now, we can’t find the time. Oh, father in heaven, O Saviour divine. What are we doing with our free time? We have electric stoves to cook our roast, jet planes to fly us from coast to coast. We have TV dinners prepared on a tray, and most of our dishes we throw away. But still somewhere along the line, we just can’t seem to find the time. Oh, Father in Heaven, O Saviour divine, “What are we doing with our free time?” When there was only one church in the community, we would go every time we had the opportunity, Now there’s a church on every corner, and we can’t give God a one day’s honor. We would ride in a wagon with two horse power, Our cars will now go over a hundred miles per hour,
We have cabs, buses and a streetcar line. But we still can’t get to church on time Oh, Father in Heaven O Saviour Divine, “What are we doing with our free time?” Back when our burdens were very hard, seems like we had more time for God. Now with every time-saving device, we can’t seem to find the time to serve Christ. Oh, Father in Heaven, O Saviour, Divine, “What are we doing with our free time?” We would walk for miles to the country store, our feet would burn and hurt so, Ask a child now to walk one block for you. “Mother, I don’t have time, I’ve got homework to do.” We would visit the sick, and stay all day, We would do some chores or just sing and pray. Now with all the hospital manpower, our visits are limited to just one hour. Oh, Father in Heaven, O Saviour Divine. “What are we doing with our free time?” We have automatic washers, sweepers and such; dishwashers, can openers that start with a touch. Automatic icemakers and pushbutton spray, but still can’t find time, to daily pray. Oh, Father in Heaven, O Saviour Divine, “What are we doing with our free time? We have power mowers and electric shears, television and radio with plugs for the ears. There are all kinds of things to save us time; Yet we can’t give a little, to One so kind. We don’t even have to walk up steps anymore, with escalators moving from floor to floor And we can zip up and zoom with a breeze. On elevators so fast, you get weak in the knees. Yet, with all of the time we are able to save, we can’t give a little to Christ, for the love he gave.
Oh Father in Heaven, O Saviour, Divine, “What are we doing with our spare time?”

The Dream
I dialed the number- I heard the ring Then someone answered ….. it was… The King. I tried to say it all at once… I tried to be polite… God was on the phone, so I prayed with all my might. I told him all my troubles, I confessed to him my sins…. I told him of my losses and a little about my wins… I thanked him for my blessing and the joy of his grace, and I told him I would speak with him…. Someday face to face. He was about to answer…. it took awhile it seems… but then I awoke …. and realized, it was just a dream….. Composed/ written by: Esther Cobb
