Brothers, Families, and Friends of Council 367,

I hope and pray this finds you all well, dry, with

electricity, and enjoying some sunshine. Hurricane Matthew

years. I definitely had to use my Navy and Nebraska farm

    Knight of the Month

This Brother Knight has only been a Knight for a

couple of years and has no problem stepping up to help with

    some event or chair it.

Trying to get the Knights more involved with the

youths, he volunteered to chair our first Essay Contest for all

    8th

    -12th

grade students. He has stepped up to be our Outside

Guard and chair our Church/Vocation Committee. He

volunteers to help with our Fabulous Family Breakfast,

Oyster Roast, and Lenten Fish Fries.

He is a parishioner of Sacred Heart and is the

Roundtable Coordinator, our representative for Sacred

Heart’s Parish Board, usher, and many other positions. He

will also be taking his Fourth (Patriotic) Degree November

    5th

    in Richmond.

It is my pleasure to announce our Knight of the

Month for November 2016, Brother Dan Doyle. Thanks

    for all you do!

    Congratulations!

    Vivat Jesus,

    John

Grand Knight’s Message, from Page 1

The storm also was responsible for the cancellation

of our Knights United at Mass at Lady of Victory on the

Naval Station. We won’t skip Lady of Victory, but will

reschedule it for this month and move every parish

scheduled throughout the fraternity year to the next month.

The storm is in the past, so let’s look at the future.

November is usually our busiest month as you can see from

the schedule on the front page and calendar. This is a month

we need people to step up and volunteer or participate in

these events. These events will be more in detail in the

Council Activities section, but just to name a few that really

need your support is the Special Olympics Roller Skating,

Memorial Mass, Thanksgiving Baskets, Norfolk Emergency

Shelter Team (NEST), and the Oyster Roast.

Every month I have to select a Knight and a Family

of the Month to recognize their contributions to the Council

and Columbus Club. If you notice when I write about their

contributions, it’s usually because they have “STEPPED

UP” to do something to make my life easier in knowing this

event is in good hands. Especially for Family of the Month,

sometimes it just takes a Knight and his wife/family to fix a

meal for a Friday Night Social, chair an event, or just come

participate in an event. There’s plenty of opportunity this

month to do such a thing. Also, in my appreciation for the

help, I personally give the Knight and Family of the Month

$25 worth of Grand Knight bucks to be used at any Council

or Columbus Club event. The Family of the Month is also

submitted to the Supreme Council and various submissions

are randomly selected for an award by Supreme. The award

is not monetary, but is usually a religious plaque, statue, or

something of that nature. We have had some of our families

    selected for this prize.

Speaking of Brothers that have stepped up through

the years, Ronald “Smokey” Stover PGK, FDD, and Jack

Michalski PGK, PSD, have both received their Honorary

Life Membership card and pin from Supreme. To receive

this award, you have to have a minimum of 25 years as a

Knight and be at least 70 years old. Congratulations and

thank you both for all the hard work you have done for this

    Council and the Columbus Club.

To update everyone on the status of the contract

agreements between the Council and the Columbus Club, we

have put together what we feel is the best for both and these

contracts will be voted upon at the November 2nd

    Business

Meeting. The one contract is to state that the Knights of

Columbus and the Columbus Club are two different entities.

We’re all the same people, but as a Council that is a non-

profit, we cannot own any buildings, but our Corporation,

the Columbus Club, can own and manage the building and

its assets. This is why we had to take the Knights of

Columbus signs down and for all rentals now, it will let the

renters know that the contract is with the Columbus Club

and no mention of the Knights of Columbus should be on

any public forum. I’ve even changed our website that states

our Council meets at the Columbus Club.

See Grand Knight’s Message, Page 4

    Family of the Month

This family is involved and supports many events at

the Council. The biggest event they support is the Fabulous

Family Breakfast as he comes in early to help prepare the

food and then tends to everyone thirsty needs behind the

counter. His wife promotes the breakfast by inviting all her

friends at St Pius X to come eat which has really increased

our numbers. Their daughter is usually one of the hard-

working young ladies going around cleaning the tables and

    tending to the customers’ needs.

This month, they stepped up and spearheaded the

SPX seventh grade fundraiser at one of our Friday Night

Socials and raised $800 for the seventh graders to pay for the

    eighth grade graduation and party.

He is an active duty Master Chief in the Navy, our

Deputy Grand Knight, our Council Activity chairman, and

my right hand man who always gives me sound advice. She

is a school teacher assistant at SPX and their daughter is a

student and participates in sports at SPX as well as sings in

    the Youth choir.

It is my pleasure to announce our Family of the

Month for November 2016, Larry and Marie Forsythe, and

daughter Mia. Thanks for all you do!

    Congratulations!

    Vivat Jesus,

    John

Grand Knight’s Message, from Page 3 The second agreement is if the Corporation closed

and sold all its assets, the money would be secured in case

another building is to be bought. If the Corporation doesn’t

buy another building after five years, the money will be used

for any charitable contributions that the Council/Corporation

has agreed upon. Let me be clear on one thing, we are not

closing the building or disbanding as a Council. This is

all coming from Supreme to keep the Knights of Columbus

from being sued from an event/rental and to keep

disagreements to a minimum from the Council/Corporation

if they are ever disbanded. Please show up to vote on this

    very important issue.

    Hopefully, I haven’t confused everyone. It’s been

an ordeal putting this together and I’ll be glad to have it

behind us. Be safe out there, pray for each other, and thank

you all for your support. I’m blessed to be the Grand Knight

of a great council with Brothers and families that know

    HOW TO STEP IT UP!

If you can Conceive it, truly Believe it, we can

Achieve it! Stay Humble and Kind. God Bless!

    Vivat Jesus,

    John Person

Council Activities, from Page 1 FOOD BASKETS – Folks, it’s that time of the year

again. Norfolk Council 367 is committed to helping feed the

hungry again this Holiday season. Now is the time to clean

the pantry and get those donations of canned goods into the

Council so that we can start to assemble our Thanksgiving

Food Baskets. Canned vegetables, yams, cranberry sauce,

stuffing, corn bread mix, rice, and anything else you can think

    of is needed.

The Council will be providing the turkeys for each

of the Thanksgiving baskets. Goods and donations can be

dropped off or given to the GK or any council Officer

    whenever you see them.

If you know of any Family that is in need of a

Thanksgiving food basket please let us know. The Knights

that identify the Families in need will be responsible to ensure

arrangements are made for the delivery of the Baskets to the

family. We are planning to assemble the baskets and have

them ready for pickup and delivery at noon on Monday,

November 21. The names of the Families in need will remain

anonymous. For more information or wanting to volunteer to

help, contact PGK Pat Brennan at 587-0477.

MEMORIAL MASS – Our annual Memorial Mass

is to honor our deceased Brother Knights & family members

who have gone to their eternal rest over the past year. The

Mass will be held on Thursday, November 17th

    at 7 PM. Our

Worthy Chaplain, Fr. Joe Metzger will be our Celebrant.

ESSAY CONTEST - We’re looking for some

volunteers to help judge the entries. The theme is, “The

Importance of Religious Freedom.” For more info, contact

    Brother Dan Doyle at 757-348-0884.

COATS FOR KIDS – It’s going to be winter soon

and there are plenty of kids without proper clothing. Please

donate clean, usable coats for this cause. Cash donations

also accepted. The coat drive will end on November 26th.

Contact John Person at 675-2107 for more information.

KCIC – Keep Christ In Christmas is a great way to

show everyone that Christmas is about the birth of Christ.

Sales have already started and it’s a great way to support

Christianity and the Council. Contact PGK Jim Pressler at

    515-5116.

    FABULOUS FAMILY BREAKFAST – Keep

spreading the word we’re the BEST breakfast in Town!

Another great turnout as we served 63 adults and 14 children.

NORFOLK EMERGENCY SHELTER TEAM (NEST) – Our Parishes have been given their dates for the

week they’ll be hosting the homeless. Please consider

volunteering to help out, especially during the mornings or

nights we serve breakfast and dinner. Check the calendar.

FRIDAY NIGHT SOCIALS – There will be only

    two this month, November 4th

    & 11th

    . The socials are

becoming very popular and people are thoroughly enjoying

the great food and company. Come to one and find out for

yourself, or better yet, step up and volunteer to host one.
