Yorkshire’s Purchasing Manager David Waring raised £765 for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital by completing the Liverpool Half Marathon.

The donation went to the Imagine Appeal, a campaign which enables the hospital to continue to develop its facilities and buy vital equipment. David chose the appeal because he wanted to give something back to the hospital that had helped his daughter, Grace.

David ran the half marathon with his brother-in-law, and was supported by his two daughters Grace, aged four, and eighteen-month-old Jessica.

YORKSHIRE SUPPORTS MAYOR’S CHARITY Yorkshire competed in the 2007 Mayor of Knowsley’s charity golf tournament, helping to raise over £2,500. The money raised will go to the Mayor’s chosen charity, which this year is to purchase life saving equipment for newborn babies at Whiston Hospital, in Liverpool.

KEEP ON RUNNING

NEW KIT FOR YOUNG STARSBudding young football stars will be sporting a brand new football kit courtesy of Yorkshire Copper Tube. Rainhill United under 10s team, who play in the Rainhill and St Helens Mini-Soccer League, will be sporting their

new kits in time for the 2007-2008 season. The sponsorship was set up by Engineering Manager Phil Carlisle whose son, Michael, is captain of the team. The team was in need of a new sponsor so Yorkshire donated £300

towards the cost of the strip which features the company’s name and logo. The team’s recent successes include winning the Birchley St Mary’s Summer Gala Cup, and they hope to continue their good form into the new season.

SUPPORTING YOUNG PLUMBERSYorkshire supported the 2007 National Plumbing Apprentice Competition for Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The competition, which is organised by the Scottish and Northern Ireland Plumbing and Employers’ Federation (SNIPEF), brings together apprentices from each of the technical colleges in Scotland and Northern Ireland that teach the plumbing qualification.

The winner was Danny Thornburn, an apprentice plumber from Jewel and Esk Valley College in Dalkieth. Danny was amongst 17 competitors from colleges in Scotland and Northern Ireland who took part in the two-day competition.

Yorkshire provided the tube used in the competition and every competitor received a Yorkshire polo shirt and a pack of Yorkshire gifts.

A team of plumbers from Newcastle used Yorkshire’s cheeky promotional t-shirts as their strip in a charity football match. Local plumber Mark Somerville rounded up a group of his fellow plumbers to play in a charity football match and raise money for Benwell Grove Playgroup.

Mark contacted Yorkshire to lend a hand after he had entered Yorkshire’s nationwide ‘Text2Win’ competition, which gave away t-shirts featuring fun slogans. He commented: “We all loved the t-shirts and I thought they would be an ideal kit for our team – ‘Plumbers eleven’.”
