To prepare ourselves let us hear fromthe Word of God:For Christ died for sins once for all, therighteous for the unrighteous, to bring you toGod. 1 Peter 3:18Worthy is the lamb (Jesus Christ) who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honour and glory and praise. Bible Reading Tom BroinowskiThe lesson for this second Sunday before Lent is taken from the Gospel of St John, chapter1beginning to read at verse 1:The Word Became FleshIn the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He waswith God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing wasmade that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The lightshines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testifyconcerning that light, so that through him all might believe. He himself was not the light; hecame only as a witness to the light. The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in theworld, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. Hecame to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receivehim, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of Godchildren born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husbands will, but born ofGod.The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the gloryof the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. 8. The Lord be with youAnd also with you. Our Father, in heaven,Let us pray. hallowed be your name. Your Kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours, Now and for ever. Amen 9. As the God of allcomfort help them to experience the power and consolation of your love.Lord hear our prayer. We remember prisoners and their families, the victims of crime and their families.Magistrates and all who administer our laws.Lord hear our prayer.Almighty God our Heavenly Father, your Son Jesus Christ shared in the life of an earthlyhome at Nazareth. Bless our homes and school we pray. Help parents and teachers tocare for children with love and to impart the knowledge of Christ to them. Help us to beservants of each other and to be hospitable and caring for others. Provide for our needsand keep us from hurting each other. Fill our homes and school with peace and joy.Lord hear our prayerThrough Jesus Christ our Lord AMEN. 10. Gradual Hymn (St Denio)Immortal, invisible, God only wise,In light inaccessible hid from our eyes,Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,Almighty, victorious, Thy great Name we praise.Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,Nor wanting, nor wasting, Thou rulest in might;Thy justice, like mountains, high soaring aboveThy clouds, which are fountains of goodness and love.To all, life Thou givest, to both great and small; In all life Thou livest, the true life of all;We blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree,And wither and perishbut naught changeth Thee. All laud we would render; O help us to seeThis only the splendour of light hideth Thee,And so let Thy glory, Almighty, impart,Through Christ in His story, Thy Christ to the heart. 11.
