I would like to thank our school community for their continued support throughout such a busy year. Your assistance, input and moral support are greatly appreciated. The staff – teaching, office, grounds..., have gone above and beyond this year. They continue to use initiative to take on things that just need to be done regardless if it’s in their range of expected tasks or not. This positive and proactive behaviour brings about greater benefits for our students. I would like to thank our student body for their consistent efforts throughout the year. There are, and will be little re-directions and reinforcement of expectations but on the whole we are quite lucky to have such a cooperative and pleasant cohort of students. Very sadly, we farewell a number of students and families this year. We wish them every success and enjoyment in their new school communities. For year 6 – they are a very interesting group of students with each having very different skills, strengths, personali- ties and even quirks. They have been a great bunch, who have mixed well, sharing many experiences and setting a positive set of expectations for Yr 6 in 2013. We wish them every success for their sojourn into High School.

Week 10 Term 4

Tuesday 18th December 2012

This will be the final newsletter for this year. There are, and will be little re-directions and reinforcement of expectations but on the whole we are quite lucky to have such a cooperative and pleasant cohort of students. Very sadly, we farewell a number of students and families this year. We wish them every

success and enjoyment in their new school communities. For year 6 – they are a very

interesting group of students with each having very different skills, strengths, personali-

ties and even quirks. They have been a great bunch, who have mixed well, sharing many

School Captains 2013 Congratulations to Georgina Hughes and Jed Lewis who have been elected to the

positions of School Captains for 2013. Both these students will do an excellent job for our

school and will benefit greatly by this experience. Congratulations also to those in Yr 5

who also ran for this position. Just to nominate, present the speeches was a great effort.

2012 This has been a very busy year once again but I feel quite a successful one. Many of our students have exhibited very pleasing development – not only in academics but also in social aspects of life. We attempt to provide our students with opportunities and experiences to assist their de-velopment as a ‘whole person’. A number of these provisions have been – Direct computer instruction and mentoring; Indonesian Provision of 2 quality Student Learning Support Officers Perspective of viewing each child as an individual and attempting to cater for their

needs Open dialogue with parents/caregivers Travelling shows Programs such as – Dance, Cartooning, Musica Viva, Hunter Life Van, Surf Safety,

Leadership, Drumbeat, swimming Excursions Gresford Art Fair NAIDOC Day ANZAC Day Debating, Public Speaking, Sports representation, Spelling Bee, ICAS

competitions, Cattle Judging and others. We do factor many of these into our budget to relieve financial pressure on our families.

With extra funding from elsewhere we are able to do this to a greater extent but the funds

from other sources are not always forthcoming so, how we can support families and what

we can offer changes.

2013 – a year of change. Many of the developments promoted by the DEC will have a transitional year in 2013 – English and Numeracy syllabus, Every Child Every School, Local Schools Local Decisions (including changes in staffing measures), New Realignment of support to schools, new financial and administrative systems, increased expectations and accountability and more. Throughout this time of change we need to work closely together in an atmosphere of

mutual support and trust whereby we take from these encroaching changes aspects that

will benefit our students. Where there is change there is opportunity. Change is

inevitable, what we do with it is what matters.

Surf Safety Day Last Thursday, students from Yr 2 – Yr 6 travelled to Nobby’s Beach to be part of the Surf Safety program. This was an outstanding day for our students; both in regards to the fun they had and also the important information that was imparted from the young and dynamic instructors. The students were kept very busy both in and out of the water. This was an extremely valuable experience.

I would like to wish all our school community a

very Merry and Happy Christmas,

but more-so a very safe one.

I hope the new year is exceeding &

generous to all.

Please return to us fully fit.
