Geoff Walker It is with great sadness we have to announce the unexpected passing of Geoff Walker on the 28th May. He is well known in the farming community for doing any job as long as he could sit in a machine, whether it be a digger, tractor or his much-loved JCB, otherwise known as his right arm. Sadly he leaves behind his wife Sue, his children and grandchildren. Geoff’s funeral will take place on the 13th July. The funeral service itself will
be invite only due to the current situation, but if anyone would like the details of Geoff’s final journey and/or socially distanced wake, please contact Sue on 07592733707. To allow everyone to pay their respects in some way, whether you are attending in person or not, we would like as many people as
possible to wear something with red or a red ribbon. We have set up a PayPal Pool for a collection in memory of Geoff for people who wish to contribute either to the JCB flowers or donate to Air Ambulance UK. We will be splitting any money 50/50 unless people tell
us they have a preference. https://www.paypal.com/pools/c/8pMMmCwwty?fbclid=IwAR30fA8UDWw6avBhnhX-

Payments made to Melton Mowbray Market Due to the reduced postal service and the shortened opening times of the
banks caused by Covid-19, we would ask all purchasers who have credit
arrangements to pay us via BACS where possible rather than post cheques.
Details for payment can be found on all invoices issued by the market. If you
have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us on 01664 562971. A
reminder that all other payments should be made on the day.
Social Distancing
We draw everyone’ s attention again to the operating arrangements for all livestock markets
during lockdown. These include a drop and go for vendors leaving maximum space available for
GENUINE buyers who must remain socially distanced at all times in the rings and around the
market. Positions in the rings are clearly marked out and are strictly on a first come first served
basis. Please help us to keep the live markets operating for you.
BACS Payments to customers
Please note due to Melton Mowbray market now holding sales on both Tuesdays and
Wednesdays BACS payments to customers are now being initiated on Thursdays for credit into
customer accounts first thing Monday morning.
Pay on the day policy – reminder of terms We would like to remind our customers that all store and breeding stock must be paid for on the day. Prime stock purchasers can apply for terms using an account form, which can be posted or emailed on
request and are also available from the market office. For Prime stock purchasers with credit agreements, credit terms will extend to a maximum of two weeks. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to
contact us on 01664 562971.
Farm assurance status Would all cattle vendors selling cattle as Farm Assured please ensure that their Farm Assurance is up to
date, with all linked holdings registered to the primary holding, and ensure that the stickers used in passports match the details held by the administering Farm Assurance body. We are increasingly having
issues with linked holdings not being covered under a primary FABBL account, and severe deductions are being applied at the time of slaughter. In such instances, the vendor is liable for all deductions made
Named/Numbered Sires Vendors are advised that named sires must be officially printed on the passport of the animal and not hand written. We will not sell animals as being named or numbered sire if the sire details are not printed onto the passport. Sire
details may be checked with the breed societies online to ensure that they are correct. Please also include sire details on your blue entry forms which accompany cattle to market. Thank you for your cooperation.

Perhaps, a bit short of numbers this week, I would blame the weather although it rained all day, some south of Melton Mowbray would have started combines rolling on Sunday/Monday. This week again a lift in trade particularly the better end of cattle… as “Lock-Down” allows one Vendor per entry to stay and watch their stock sold, will be great to see Vendors stand behind what they produce and see the trade and what trade is doing and what is wanted… Again, great to see New Faces (old to me…) selling first time in Melton Mowbray today… 50 Vendors today selling to 15 Buyers ringside purchasing on 21 Accounts…
