Vincent Ferrer, † in Brittany; O.P.; born in In Valencia; noted orator and missionary preacher; called the "Angel of judgement"; worked tirelessly for the unity of the Church, divided by the Western Schism.
April 7: Saint John Baptist de la Salle, Priest
Jean-Baptistery de la Salle, † 1719; canon of the diocese of Rheims; gave away his fortune to found (1680) the Brothers of the Christian schools (Institutum Scholarum Christianarum [F.S.C.], today numbering some 4,975 religious; authored the Conduct of Schools; patron of teachers. The gospel reading for today's Mass should begin with the incipit: "Jesus said to Nicodemus."
