MARCH
Dear RES Families, As many of you are aware, we are begin-ning to take precautionary measures regard-ing the Covid-19 virus. As we make chang-es to the students’ days and learning experi-ences, please understand that we are mak-ing these changes as precautions- cancel-ling some field trips that involve large groups, cancellation of the Tri-District Concert, etc. We will communicate these changes to families as they are made. We are currently working with Central Office administration to determine next steps. Administrators are on a daily call as we make decisions collaboratively. At this time, we are not sending separate curriculum work home for your child/children if they are staying home. Your child may continue to read, stop and jot their thoughts while read-ing and practice their math facts. As always, we are taking student and adult safety seriously. Thank you for your patience and cooperation. In partnership, Natalie Hammond

As we continue to work toward our school-wide goals this year, we are excited to introduce to you a video on Restora-tive Practices at RES. This video highlights some of the ways we continue to develop our practice and promote a positive school climate. We are hopeful it will give you an insider-look into Restorative Practices within our school. It is important to note that this video highlights only one component of this practice, Restorative Circles.

Civil Rights leader Fannie Lou Hamer’s life began in poverty, as the 20th child of Mississippi sharecroppers. She began working alongside
her parents in the fields at the age of six. As Fannie Lou grew up, she was angry that African Americans in Mississippi were denied equal
opportunities and treatment. In 1964, she fought to register African Americans to vote as part of Freedom Summer, and tried but was stopped from running for the Mississippi House of Representatives.
She helped found the National Women’s Political Caucus, spoke around the country about civil rights, and worked to create equal op-portunities in economic life and housing for African Americans.

on March 11! What Is Planned for Redding’s Schools in 2020-21?
The budget process is a BIG DEAL every year in Redding,
because the money spent on our schools next year needs to be
approved (or denied) by the Town’s voters at referendum this
May. Come learn about what programs and staffing levels our
school has planned for next year, and the role that ALL VOTERS
need to play in determining school spending levels.
Also, join us as we unveil the plans for the newly painted RES
cafeteria, coming later this spring!

Redding’s Got Talent with PTA Volunteer Becky
Rappoccio
RES mom Becky Rappoccio has made Redding her home for the past four years, along with her husband Tim, her
second grader Logan, and her preschooler Scarlett. The newest addition to their family is three-month old puppy
Riley. Becky has lent her talents to RES PTA events such as Ladies Night Out, and the Snow Ball.
Originally from Newark, Delaware, Becky has
affectionately thought of herself as a “theater nerd”
since her days at the University of Delaware, where she
majored in English with a concentration in Drama.
Five Fast Facts About Becky:
What do most people NOT know about you?
I competed in the Miss America pageant as Miss Delaware in 2006, and won the Non-Finalist Talent Award for singing.
What's your favorite family tradition?
Every year the weekend after Thanksgiving my family goes out to dinner and picks out our Christmas tree and one new ornament each from Stew Leonards. It's such a special day for all of us.
If you could pick up a new skill in an instant what would it be?
To learn piano so I could accompany singers (like myself!)
What’s something you want to do in the next year that you’ve never done before?
Ski! Everyone skis up here and I feel really out of the loop because I've never been skiing in my entire life.
Do you have a favorite quote?
"This, too, shall pass." My mom always used to say that when I was growing up and having a hard time with something. It's simple, but very comforting in those
times when difficulties seem never-ending.
