Mobility Analytics in the COVID Era: Prospects and Challenges with New Forms of Data and Artificial Intelligence

LOGISTICS Date: Wednesday, September 30, 2020

Time: 1:00pm-2:00pm EASTERN

Link: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/9064546891605863179

Description: COVID-19 presents unprecedented challenges to transportation planning and operations. By at least one estimate, at the height of the coronavirus shutdown in the spring, travel to more than 150,000 Points of Interest throughout New Jersey, including to retail, health care, food stores and other essential and non-essential establishments decreased up to 80 percent compared to the first week of March when the state was still open. However, the economic crisis associated with the public health crisis, is likely to have long-term – and geographically and economically disparate effects – as was the case with the Great Recession. This talk will consider a range of operational as well as strategic, long-term effects related to wider social and economic context of the current pandemic and its potential consequences for transportation demand. The talk will utilize new forms of structured and unstructured (text, image, social media) data, and machine learning and Artificial Intelligence approaches as an approach to synthesize what could become a dynamic, uncertain and rapidly evolving post-pandemic landscape. The speaker will discuss some of the key benefits and unintended consequences – as well as governance issues – yet, the necessity, associated with such a data-driven approach.

AGENDA 1:00pm

• 1:00pm-1:15pm: Transition Period from Plenary #2 to Lunch Speaker • 1:15pm-1:45pm: Mobility Analytics in the COVID Era:
