BackgroundIn 1995, Mitch re-encountered his beloved professor, Morrie Schwartz.Morrie was recently diagnosed ALS, also known as Lou Gehrigs Disease. Mitch recorded his encounters with Morrie that point on and later published them as the non-fiction novel Tuesdays with Morrie.

Tuesdays With MorrieOriginally published in 1997.Mitch paid for Morries medical bills through the sale of the book. Spent four years on the New York Times bestseller list, and is considered the most successful memoir ever published.

Tuesdays With MorrieMitch, the storys narrator, recalls his graduation from Brandeis University in the spring of 1979. After receiving his diploma, Mitch presents his favorite professor, Morrie Schwartz, with a monogrammed briefcase. Mitch promises to keep in touch with Morrie over the years, but is unable to keep his promise.

Plot Summary ContinuedMitch, a failed musician, becomes unsatisfied with life and decides to take a well-paying job as a journalist even though he is not happy. One night Mitch recognizes the voice of his former professor, Morrie, on television. Morrie is being interviewed by Ted Koppel on the show Nightline.
