General Key Points

• Results show percent evaluation in comparison to the performance of

the Goodyear tire:

- value above 100 % = better

- value below 100 % = worse

• One tire make selected as control tire (except aquaplaning straight and

curved), re-tested at end of each complete sequence in order to

consider potential changes of test conditions, (e.g. temperature, test

track characteristics).

Test DetailsAquaplaning Long.

TÜV SÜD Automotive

Key Points

Test vehicle equipped with GPS-based speed measuring device

and rotation wheel spin sensors on both front wheels

• Driving: Constant speed while running into a flooded water basin

(approximate water depth 9 mm) on one side of the car. The other side

still on dry asphalt.

• Aquaplaning longitudinal: Characterized by maximally reached

aquaplaning speed. Four valid runs in same gear.

• Test: Acceleration with full throttle when entering the water basin.

Speed and wheel spin are recorded. The corresponding vehicle speed

to a wheel spin difference of 15% represents the aquaplaning speed.

Test DetailsAquaplaning Curved

TÜV SÜD Automotive

Key Points

Test vehicle equipped with GPS-based speed measuring

device and lateral acceleration sensor

• Driving: Constant speed & steering angle on dry asphalt circle with

an approx. 20 m water flooded segment.

• Aquaplaning in corners: Characterized by maximally transmittable

lateral acceleration as well as decreasing characteristics after

reaching the maximum (the flatter the gradient, the easier to control)

• Test: Lateral acceleration and speed recorded when vehicle enters the

flooded segment (triggered by light barrier). The vehicle speed is

increased run by run until clear decrease of lateral acceleration occurs.

Test DetailsAcceleration On Ice And

Snow-Covered Roads

TÜV SÜD Automotive

Key Points

Test vehicle equipped with GPS-based speed measurement

device

• Driving: Vehicle is accelerated with full throttle on a straight test track.

On snow surface with traction control switched on, on ice off.

• Test: Acceleration time between determined initial and end speed is

recorded.

• Acceleration: Mean acceleration is calculated based on 8 values.

Test DetailsBraking on ice, wet and

snow-covered roads

TÜV SÜD Automotive

Key Points

Test vehicle equipped with GPS-based speed measurement

device

• Driving: Deceleration with full pedal pressure on a straight test track

(ABS braking).

• Test: Braking distance between determined initial and end speed is

recorded.

• Deceleration: Mean deceleration is calculated based on 8 values.

Test DetailsLateral Ice Grip

TÜV SÜD Automotive

Key Points

Test vehicle equipped with laptiming device

• Driving: Constant speed & steering angle on an iced circle within

the stability limits (excessive under- / oversteering is avoided).

• Test: Lap time is recorded.

• Lateral acceleration: The mean lateral acceleration is calculated based

on 8 values.

Test DetailsHandling on wet and

snow-covered roads

TÜV SÜD Automotive

Key Points

• Driving: Test vehicle driven within its stability limits by experienced

test drivers on special handling circuits (ESP off / ABS on). Excessive

under- / oversteering is avoided (striving for maximum reproducibility)

• Test: Lap times are recorded. Handling & ride characteristics are

subjectively assessed.

• Handling characteristics: The driver evaluates the different performance

criteria using a 10-point scale where a 10 is the max. reachable mark. A

mean value is calculated thereof. The laptimes support the

reproducibility and a mean speed is generated of 3 valid runs.
