PRINCIPAL‟S NEWS
We have had a very busy week with Years 7 to 9
completing their end of year exams including the
Essential Secondary Science Assessment. This is an
online assessment of the science skills and
knowledge of our Year 8 students.
Our Intensive Swimming Program started just as
the rain began to fall and our primary students had a
great night at their disco. The next three weeks are
also packed full of learning experiences and fun
activities as we lead up to the end of another
fantastic year of education at Tullamore Central
School.
Our Intensive Swimming Program continues for the
next two weeks and the secondary excursion is next
week. Our Christmas Scripture service is on
Wednesday 7th
December at 1:45pm in the K/1
room and Presentation Night is Monday 12th
December at 7:00pm in the Tullamore Memorial
Hall. The Kadungle Cup is scheduled for
Wednesday 14th
December at Tullamore, our
Welfare Excursion for Thursday 15th
December and
our PBL Tully Buck market day for Friday 16th
December. We are very appreciative of the Saint
Vincent de Paul society who have given our school
the funds to provide lunch for our students on this
day.
After carefully watching the weather and examining
the weather prediction programs we have had to
cancel the Bogan Shield tomorrow. This decision
has been an agonizing one for Miss Richards and
she has been watching the predictions for the last
three days with great interest. Unfortunately, our
three schools do not have a day for the rest of this
year to reschedule to so we will not have the Bogan
Shield in 2011. We are also watching the weather
to see if our Years 7-10 league tag team are able to
travel to Dubbo on Thursday.
Our House performance competition will be on
Friday at 10:00am under the COLA if the weather
is suitable.
The footings for our Trade Training Centre are to
be cemented in today ready for the building to be
installed on Friday if there are no further
disruptions from the weather. The new furniture and
equipment are due to arrive on the 8th
December so
the facility will be ready for us to use day one of
2012.
I have been very proud of our students as they have
welcomed new students to our school and
immediately made friends with them. This has
helped our new students settle into our school and
immediately be ready to continue their learning.
We have an AECG meeting tomorrow at Tottenham
Central School at 10:00am.
Tuesday, 29 November 2011 Term 4 – Week 8
Our next P&C meeting will be held on Monday 5th
December at 7:00pm in the school library.
Everyone is welcome to attend.
Please feel free to call me at school on 6892 5005
or make an appointment if you need to discuss any
aspect of your child‟s education or if you need
clarification on any issues or events your child may
be involved in.
Our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)
expectations: At Tullamore Central School we are
respectful, responsible, cooperative and honest
learners.

DANGERS OF ENERGY DRINKS
We do not allow energy drinks at Tullamore
Central School due to their health risks.
There are a number of risks associated with
consuming energy drinks such as Red Bull and
Mother. The high levels of caffeine found in these
drinks has been linked to over-stimulation of the
central nervous system. This is called caffeine
intoxication or more commonly known as
the "caffeine jitters". The symptoms of caffeine
intoxication are not unlike overdoses of other
stimulants. It may include restlessness, fidgetiness,
nervousness, euphoria, insomnia, flushing of the
face, increased urination, gastrointestinal
disturbance, muscle twitching, a rambling flow of
thought and speech, irritability, irregular or rapid
heart beat, and psychomotor agitation.
In cases of much larger overdoses, mania,
depression, lapses in judgment, disorientation,
disinhibition, delusions, hallucinations, and
psychosis may occur, and rhabdomyolysis
(breakdown of skeletal muscle tissue) can be
provoked. Extreme overdose can result in death.
HOUSE PERFORMANCES
House Performances - Tullamore, we‟ve got talent!

COLA area before preparing and practising for the
big event. Performances will commence at
10:00am, judged by our own talented community
members.

SECONDARY NEWS
Welcome to week 8!
There are a few short reminders that follow in this
section for secondary students and their parents:
Year 6 To Year 7 Transition Program
The Year 6 to Year 7 2012 Transition program
concludes this week. There may be some changes to
Tuesday, 29 November 2011 Term 4 – Week 8
the time when students have their final transition
sessions this week due to clashes with Bogan Shield
and the Year 7-10 League Tag Gala Day in Dubbo.
Students will be informed when their session will
be changed to once final decisions regarding the
League Tag Day is made due to imminent wet
weather forecasted on Thursday.
Mobile Phones and Music Players
Students are reminded that they are not to have their
phones or music players out in class unless they are
using them under the direction of their teachers for
a specific lesson activity.
They are also reminded that they should not be
using their phones or music players in the
playground during recess and lunch breaks or
between classes. This is due to OH&S. We have
already had some near miss incidents with people
texting and not looking where they are going and
incidents where a student has not heard a teacher‟s
instruction because they had their music player /
phone earphones in. Please adhere to these rules
and do not be surprised when a staff member asks
you to put your phone / music player away or
confiscates it after your first warning.
Year 9 / 10 Laptops
Year 9/10 are reminded that they must adhere to the
expectations of use regarding their laptops. That is:
Bring them to school fully charged
See Mr Owen if they are having any issues
with the device as soon aspossible
Your laptop is a learning tool - it is to be
used at the direction of your teachers.
Teacher is talking – lids ajar and paying
attention
Back up your work regularly to your
“My Locker” or to a thumbdrive –
remember technological failure is not an
excuse for late assessment items!
Laptops are not to be used for inappropriate
activities. This is outlined in the charter that all
students signed on receipt of their devices.
Remember that if there is an issue please see our
TSO Mr Owen on Tuesday or Thursday, or Miss
Shankelton.

LIBRARY LINKS
A big thank you to the children who have returned
overdue books! As we are nearing the end of the
year it would be great if you could search around
for missing and overdue resources and return them
to the library or office. We have been giving out
tully bucks for responsible borrowers as a reward.
If your child receives a reminder notice and cannot
find the resource, just write on the notice and return
it to myself, Mrs Perks or the office.
Last Week For Borrowing
This is the last opportunity for borrowing as we
move towards the holidays. Thank you to the
children who borrow regularly and use the library
resources. After this week we will be returning,
sorting and shelving in readiness for 2012!
Thank you

TEACHER PROFILE
Name: Lauren Gaiter
Tertiary Qualifications: Bachelor
of Education – Primary
I studied at Charles Sturt University in Dubbo. I
chose this particular course as it offered an
enhanced indigeneous learning program
concurrently with my degree. The Indigenous
Learning Program focused on Aboriginal culture
and pedagogy. While at University, I volunteered at
two different homework centres and implemented a
community project in Walgett.
Inspiration
I love working at Tullamore Central School. I have
enjoyed running extracurricular activities including
the choir and homework centre. I also enjoyed
implementing NAIDOC Day this year and helping
to organise the primary discos.
I enjoyed working and learning with the
experienced staff at Tullamore central School.
Future Goals
I hope to develop as a teacher by continuing my
professional learning and from the mentoring by the
staff at Tullamore Central School. I also aim to
complete further studies in psychology or social
welfare.
TEACHER PROFILE
Name: William Prebendarcik
Education:
Bachelor of Science, Graduate
Diploma in Mental Health, Certificate
in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy,
Diploma of Education, Master of Educational
Studies.
TAFE Certification:
Workplace Training and Assessment, Small
Business Enterprise, Electronics.
Other courses:
Customer Relations, Close Personal Protection,
Security, Private Investigation, Spreadsheets and
Databases.
I studied, with varying frequency, at the University
of Newcastle and University of Melbourne. During
this time I was employed in many different ways,
and one of these was teaching ESL in Europe. This
experience led me, via a circuitous route, to
teaching in the NSW public school system.
I have always liked knowledge for its own sake. I
would hope that Tullamore School students would
gain some sense of this as well. Having a thirst for
education, questioning existing assumptions, and
keeping an open mind to novel educational
experiences and understanding is very important.
Another suggestion I would make is that all
students should read extensively, to improve their
general knowledge base.
I enjoy teaching at Tullamore Central School, and
will hopefully continue to teach here for some years
to come.
All BAND students are encouraged
to join with the PSC Band to
perform “Jingle Bells” in the
Xmas Parade.

TULLAMORE SWIMMING CLUB
Once again last week was a miserable day to be in
the pool swimming but well done to all those who
braved the water and to those who helped out at the
meet.
The Bogan Shield which was to have been held
tomorrow has been cancelled. The swimming club
would have been unable to function a full meet for
tomorrow Wednesday 30th day due to a large
amount of members who would have been involved
in this event. The tadpoles will still run and if there
are enough timekeepers we will still run the Year 1
frogs group also.
All families that received a child protection form
with their registration packs could you please
complete these forms and return them to Mel Alvey
as soon as possible as we require these to meet
Council regulations to operate swimming club. If
you have lost your copy or require any help in
completing the form then please contact Mel.
Our last swim meet of the year will be Wednesday
14th December.
After our last meeting it was decided that the club
would run an individual medley for the children
once every three weeks and this would be the first
swim of the meet in the afternoons. Children would
Tuesday, 29 November 2011 Term 4 – Week 8
receive 1 point for entering the medley and would
have to complete 25m of each stroke. If any child is
interested in competing in the individual medley
than please contact one of the committee members
at the start of the swim meet.
Our next swimming club meeting will be
Wednesday 7th
December at the conclusion of the
swim meet (usually around 5:00pm – 5:30pm). All
families are invited and welcome to attend.
See you at the pool on Wednesday.

TULLAMORE PRESCHOOL AND CHILD
CARE CENTRE INC
“WHEAT DRIVE 2011/12”
As the harvest season quickly approaches, we
would like to take this opportunity to invite the
wider community, together with the families
directly involved with the centre, to participate in
our 2011 Wheat Drive. Please understand that
there is absolutely no pressure to contribute at all.
The Wheat Drive allows grain producers to donate
grain to an NGR card that is in the name of the
Tullamore Preschool and Child Care Centre
(TPSCCC). An NGR card for the TPSCCC has
been registered and the number is 12880420. All
donations are completely anonymous, we will have
no way of knowing who has donated what or how
much.
The Graincorp staff will be able to easily split a
load so that you can donate as little as 0.5 tonnes.
For example if you are running 25 tonnes of wheat
in, you can nominate that 1 tonne or 0.5 tonne be
donated to the Centre. All you will need is our
NGR card number, and then nominate the best cash
price for the day. The donated portion doesn‟t have
to be sold the same way as the rest of the load. We
will make sure that the NGR number is advertised
at the silos as well.
Any enquires please don‟t hesitate to contact me on
6892 5488 or email [email protected].
Yours in fundraising,
Emma Williams
