EXTENSION TO REMOTE LEARNING

Thank you once again for your support and patience during lockdown and Remote Learning with the additional restrictions. We continue to be in contact continuing the routine and predictability for Remote Learning with the Home Group Zoom, online lessons, Focus Groups and Tutor sessions to support learning from home.

We understand the challenges and mixed emotions that families and staff face during this time. Please look after yourselves as we are endeavouring to take care of the staff and remember that our health and wellbeing is so important. If you find that you or your child is struggling on a particular day, please access some of the supports listed below and know that it is ok to take a breath and have some wellbeing time during the week.

PARENT/CAREGIVER/GUARDIAN OPINION SURVEY

Thank you to the parents who have already completed the survey. All Tulliallan Parent/Caregiver/Guardians are invited to participate in this year’s survey. We would like to hear from as many people as possible and encourage everyone to complete the survey. We have only had 35 responses which is only 3% of the school and we require 191 responses to meet the 15% target. The survey has been extended to the 3rd of September.

The survey is conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the fieldwork period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets, or smartphones.

Please view the COMPASS Update sent out about the Survey today.

SCHOOL NEWS

PREP

The Prep students were wonderful during yet another week of Remote Learning. They learnt all about ordinal numbers, drew incredible mice

drawings, wrote steps and instructions and even practised making predictions about ‘Pig the Fibber’! Excellent work Preps!

YEAR ONE

This week our Year Ones saw the Olympics close and they were asked to design their own Olympic villages. It was a highlight to see some of the imaginative and inventive designs. Our students onsite used their fine motor skills to

solve puzzles, play games and create tangrams at the end of their busy school day. Congratulations to ALL of our Year One students for completing another week of Remote Learning. It has been wonderful to see the enthusiasm

and engagement of students both onsite and at home.

YEAR TWO

Well done Year Two on another fantastic week of Remote Learning! It has been great to see the students posting their amazing work on Seesaw to

share it with their teachers. Over the last week, students have continued to explore multiplication in Number, the Olympics as part of our Inquiry topic and information reports in Writing. Here are some of the amazing pieces of

work we have seen so far!

YEAR THREE

Even in this era of Remote Learning, nothing has stopped our enthusiastic Year Three students from producing some astonishing work and successfully handing in tasks every day. Last week in Reading, students looked at identifying the cause and effect relationships in a text, worked hard at interpreting graphs in Statistics and learnt to use similes in their writing as a way of comparing things. The students’ Inquiry projects on creating their own Olympic event with their own rules and equipment was just phenomenal. Keep up the hard work and commitment Year Three students. We are so proud of you!

YEAR FOUR

The Year Four students have enjoyed ZOOM sessions where we have done many focus lessons on Reading, Writing, Inquiry and Math. Many of our onsite students have participated in hands on measurement tasks, working cooperatively and collaboratively with each other and their teachers and support staff.

YEAR FIVE

The Year Five’s have adjusted really well to Remote Learning.

They have been very flexible in adapting so quickly back to Google Classroom tasks. Our students have been creating board games targeting a variety of maths concepts of their choice. Students have been engaging really

well in our Reading, Writing, Maths and Inquiry live Zoom sessions.

Well done on another terrific week Year Five!

We always encourage milkshakes to be consumed during Zoom meetings!

YEAR SIX

Week Six in Year Six is off to a flying start with the beginning of our Focus Group sessions for Reading and Maths. Students will get the opportunity to attend two Focus Group sessions each week, one for Reading and one for Maths. These are run by their respective teachers for each subject. We asked the students how they found the

sessions and we are pleased to say that they all really enjoyed them. If you haven’t had your Focus Group session yet, be sure to keep an eye on the roster, which can be found in the Google slides for each day.

Great work this week Year Six!

Some quotes from the Monday Maths Focus Groups:

Vinay: “I had a lot of fun in the focus group because it was a smaller group and the concept of having to fly around

Australia in 3 days using a flight schedule.”

Eesa: “I enjoyed the focus group because it was really interactive and the instructions were explained really well.

And I really liked the topic of Time.”

Shishira: “It was really fun because we were learning about Time, 24 hr time and we got to do this project where we get

to fly around Australia.”

SPECIALISTS

ART

Last week the Year Five and Six students created photographic self-portraits that showed something about themselves and the things they love. We had some amazing self-portraits uploaded and we’ve included a few of them above. Excellent work everyone! Miss B, Mrs Robertson and Mrs Fuller

MUSIC AND PERFORMING ARTS Last week in Music, our Year Five and Six students continued to hone their song writing skills using Google Song Maker. We also began composing lyrics for raps based on topics of interest. We are about to move on to using an incredible online composition application called ‘Soundtrap’. Here, students will be able to record their raps and collaborate with their peers. Students in Year Five and Six are encouraged to experiment with the program prior to next week’s music class on Tuesday. They all have an invite link in their Week Five Google Classroom music task to help get them started. We can’t wait to share some of the amazing songs that students will create in Soundtrap!

Miss J, Mr Shenfield and Mr Trist

MANDARIN Last week in Mandarin, the Prep and Year One students were revising the basic greetings such as ‘Thank you’ and ‘Welcome’, and they learnt the Mandarin ‘Thank you’ song as well. The Year Two students were working on the

topic of ‘birthdays’ and they have learnt two Chinese characters: ‘生日shēng rì’. The Year Three and Four students

continued to focus on the names of ‘family members’ and ‘rooms in a house’ respectively. The Year Five and Six

students have watched the video of Chinese Idiom Stories and learnt a Chinese idiom ‘半途而废bàn tú ér fèi’. We

appreciate that the students spent their time on the Zoom lessons. Great job, everyone! We also want to give a big round of applause to the students who actively engaged in the online tasks. It was so impressive to see the amazing work submitted on Seesaw and Google Classroom by Ditika from 2A, Kiara from 3F, and Rachana from 4B. Well done and keep up your great work!

Ms. Li, Ms. Gan, and Mrs. Wu

STEM Last week during Remote Learning, Year Three to Six students continued their design project and began responding to their design briefs. They needed to create a detailed labelled drawing, which demonstrated a clear solution to a given design problem. Check out the work from our top Remote Learning stars!!!!

From Mr Pattison, Miss Sutherland and Mrs. Young.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION District Athletics— Unfortunately District Athletics has been postponed due to the recent lockdown announcement. We will announce the new date and any other changes as soon as the PE team know. We advise the Athletics team to keep practising their events at home so they can be well prepared for when we return! Last week the Year Three to Six students focused on the Olympics, it was fantastic to see our Year Three to Six students show such an interest in the Olympics and we hope they can continue this passion in Physical Education and sport outside of school (when we are allowed to).
