The ProwlerIn the Perspective of Time How has society changed in about 3 decades? By JACOB EZZO

Since the 1980’s, it is obvious that society has changed. Just in the last 5 years, our society became slightly more accepting of everyone. For a largely conservative country, the amount of urbanism is surprising. Of course, with progress there will always be people who resist and retaliate against something they do not understand. As seen in the last months, terror attacks plague the United States. In 2018 alone, so many notable things have happened. Internet Lies If you believed any of the following, you have been lied to! BY AVA KIDD Around last year, a post made circulation claiming that you could identify male and female bell peppers by look-ing at the bumps on their bot-toms. According to the post, male peppers have 3 bumps and female peppers have 4. As it turns out, all peppers con-tain seeds, which makes them female. Many people, includ-ing myself, fell victim to this internet hoax. The following consists of other trickery the worldwide web may have fooled you with. Deadly Facebook Spider This Facebook post made circulation this summer, con-veying that there were deadly spiders spreading through South Carolina, West Virginia, Tennessee, and Mississippi.

The post had also mentioned that 5 people had passed away within one week due to the arachnid. The rumor had been debunked as readers noticed that the spider in the image was actually a woodlouse spider, which isn’t even rela-tively deadly.

Barack and Michelle Obama Divorce

A post from a satirical web-site took the internet by storm in February of 2017, claim-ing the Obamas had fi led for divorce in Illinois. It claimed that Barack was looking to divorce his wife Michelle, and additionally stated that it was due to the revelation that he wasn’t the biological father of both Sasha or Malia upon performing a DNA test and

that they were the result of genetic engineering. Although the article is hardly believable, many people still fell for it. Justin Bieber Changes Race

Although Bieber has had more than enough fake news articles written about him since the start of his career, this one truly took the cake. Originating off yet another parody site in 2014, it was rumored that the pop sensa-tion had changed his race to African-American. Bieber had allegedly told paparazzi that he was born black and that he was sick of being told by oth-ers that he acted black, there-fore he had his race legally changed. Of course, this post was dishonest, and Bieber continues to identify as Cau-casian to this day.

Winged Spiders, too? To nobody’s surprise, an-other arachnid infected Face-book in 2012. Differing from the phony woodlouse spider, this “winged” spider terrifi ed millions of gullible internet users, including myself, ad-mittedly. An image was up-loaded that stated the spider had been recently discovered by scientists, however it was verifi ed that the image depict-ed a common North Carolina fi shing spider that had winged edited onto it. Thankfully, no spiders that we know of are capable of fl ight...yet.

Teacher Fashion SpotlightT.F.S. for shortBy CLYDE M. DANKINS Another month, another group of teachers with unique fashion. T.F.S. has shown me the little wonders this school has to offer. It also displays the creativity and uniqueness of our teachers. With so many great teachers, it is hard to pick a winner. After some deliberation, this month’s winner goes to Ms. Shao. Her outfi t was, in her own words, “comfortable yet stylish.” Her busy lifestyle perfectly complements her outfi t. Ms. Shao won over

the judges, taking home this month’s T.F.S. title and bragging rights . Tune in next month to see which group and which teacher is crowned next month’s T.F.S. winner.

Political Gaffes How bad can a politician really mess up? By MADISON NESTOR Politicians are stereotypically thought to be corrupt, immoral, tricky, and untrustworthy while performing their appointed government positions. In an election these stereotypes generally tend to check out whether it be during debates or in commercials, but sometimes the absolute unimaginable happens. Whether it is the candidate saying something to tarnish their reputation or pulling a Dick Cheney, sometimes what politicians do completely shatter their stereotype (which is already pretty nasty to begin with), and stun even the best campaign team. Gaffes are exactly this: something absolutely shell-shocking that a politician does that has the capability to cause the most irrational and uninformed voter to stop in their tracks to think, “Why in the world would a politician do THAT and still run/ be in offi ce?”. First, I will tell you what happened to Dick Cheney (the guy I referred to previously). Dick Cheney was former President George Bush’s Vice President from 2000-20008. It was a sunny day on February 11, 2006 at a quail hunt in Riviera, Texas, and our one and only Dick Cheney was out shooting quails with his beloved Italian-made 28-gauge Perazzi shotgun. It was a long and tiring day of killing quails, and Cheney used his beloved to shoot one. Simultaneously, a 78-year-old Texan lawyer named Harry Wittington was standing 30

feet away from where Cheney took the shot; the specifi c area he was standing in was an odd divet on the ground where he was completely invisible from Cheney’s perspective. Anyway, instead of getting the euphoric feeling of murdering a helpless bird, he got the indescribable feeling of accidentally shooting a 78-year-old attorney. Both Cheney and Whittington called it an accident, and Whittington did recover after numerous complications. A lighter gaffe of our wonderful Dick Cheney is that he did not vote in “14/16 of the past elections” in Texas (this was discovered in 2000 before the election). Around this same time, Dick Cheney had yet another unfortunate event happen to him. I am not sure if his company, Halliburton Oil Services, accidentally went into a time machine back to the 1960s, or maybe they were trying to get Cheney’s attention by doing this; but they had bathrooms segregated, one for the Westerners, and a separate one for everyone else. Cheney said that this was done without his knowledge. This seems off for so many reasons especially considering that complaints were fi led against it, and that he was chairman of the company for a solid fi ve years. Moving on to bigger, and better politicians (not), we have the infamous George Bush--Dick Cheney’s right hand man. Bush seemed to have always had some issue

with geography. One time he mixed up the countries of Slovenia and Slovakia. Another time he said he strives for “an Iran that is capable of resisting Iranian infl uence”. Many speculate that he asked the Brazilian President in 2001, “Do you have blacks, too?” Also, if you had not yet heard this iconic quote, you might not actually be living- “How many is a Brazilian?” Our former President asked this question after being told that three Brazilian soldiers were killed. What a legend. Those are certainly not all of the gaffes that exist in the depths of politics and the Internet, and positively not all of the iconic Bush quotes. I will end on my current favorite George W. Bush quote which is, “Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we.”

Memes of the Month By AVA KIDD This month’s meme comes from the app TikTok, which is an entertainment platform where users post

placed on the wall in the cafeteria, for a family member who has or had cancer to support them. The most important thing is that the money collected (almost $100) was donated to give to the Cancer Research Institute (CRI). Thanks to everyone who contributed to this project.

videos of them lip syncing to any song of their choice for fun. The app had been previously named Musical.ly, but the app had been bought by the Chinese company Bytedance and deleted, so they had to remake and rename it. The app was purchased for roughly $1 billion and then immediately deleted. The remake is known as TikTok and includes the same features as the original Musical.ly. The meme comes in when it comes to the duo feature included in the app. Users can do a duo with other users if there includes two parts of the lip sync. Many users would use this duo feature to just do random things while the other user will actually be doing the lip sync. This includes just standing still on the sync or making a joke of the other user because their side of the sync can be taken off as cringy. Forms of this meme include girls mouthing the words to the song No Mercy by The Living Tombstone, which is a song about the video game Overwatch. Viewers noticed that the controllers in the parodies weren’t turned on and used the duo feature to get the point across that they were merely pretending to play games. Other users would reverse the headphones and controllers, wearing controllers as headphones and using headphones as a controller. Others went all out with the meme and used random objects like shoes as headphones. I would give this meme an 8/10, however it mildly bullies genuine TikTok users, therefore I don’t want to support it too strongly. 4 THE PROWLER VOLUME XIV, ISSUE XLVNewsNewsReduce Plastic Use All Over-By JOSIE GALELLA

Although convenient, the use of plastic is quickly start-ing to show more cons than pros. With islands in the ocean made purely from plas-tic, and it littering almost all the ground we walk on, it is simply a fact that we have to reduce how much it is in-volved in our daily lives.

Bohemian Rhapsody Movie Review No time for losers! By IRELAND CLARK Bohemian Rhapsody is directed by Bryan Singer and stars Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury, Ben Hardy as Roger Taylor, Gwilym Lee as Brian May, and Joseph Mazzello as John Deacon. The movie is about the rock band Queen, and more specifically, the lead singer Freddie Mercury. The movie tells the beginning of the band to the tragic death of Freddie, and all the good and bad moments in between. This biopic was very good and fun to watch. The performances were great and felt as if I were watching the real band talking and interacting with others. The movie did a great job of not censoring anything and showing all the good and bad parts of what really happened. The characters were charismatic, and I truly felt for them throughout the movie. Rami Malek gives

a particularly exceptional performance as Freddie Mercury. The music was amazing, of course, and it was interesting to get a glimpse at how certain songs were made. The sad moments were heartfelt and tear-jerking. Overall, the good parts outweighed the bad, but the movie isn’t perfect. The most distracting flaw of the movie was the pacing in the beginning. One moment, Freddie is meeting Brian May and Roger Taylor for the first time, then suddenly it’s a year later. The bad pacing only lasts until about 20 minutes into the beginning of the movie, but it was confusing to say the least. That was really the only bad part, but it was distracting for the beginning. Bohemian Rhapsody is a great movie for anyone, especially Queen fans. You don’t even have to be a fan of the band to like the movie.

Many of the people discuss-ing this movie after watching it recently have proclaimed that, despite the clunky parts, this may be the best movie ever!

The Next Women’s March By EMELIE FILER Organizers say that the next Women’s March will be held in 2019 and featured in cities around the world. Since 2017, the Women’s Marches’ head center has been in Washington. The 2019 march will be different because organizers will plan to call for specific sets of public policies that they want enacted. Washington D.C will be hosting the main event on January 19th, 2019 at 10a.m. outside the White House. As of now, the only other state to officially partake in one of the marches is New York, but more cities plan to participate as the date approaches. Other cities outside of the U.S already announced their marches, such as Barcelona, Madrid, Milan, and Stockholm.

It can all start at home. Stop using those plastic grocery bags and instead switch them out four reusable cloth ones, and ditch a disposable straw for glass or stainless steel ones. Rather than buy-ing 24 packs of water bottles at the store, invest in a reus-able cup that you can refill throughout the day- saving money and the environment. Located by the pool in our very own school, you can find a water dispenser for your bottles.

Powdered juices and Gato-rades are yet another cheaper and environmentally friendly option. Fresh bread in pa-per bags instead of plastic-wrapped loafs, stick to bar soap over liquid, and overall, start separating recyclables from your other trash. In most parts of Tunkhannock, all you have to do is put them in a clear garbage bag and leave them with the rest of your trash on weekly garbage days. When it comes to school, there’s no shame in opting for the recycling bin rather than the trash can. Replace plastic sandwich baggies for reus-able containers, and Tupper-ware is always a much better option than the others.

Being There: A Great Unknown Book This is just like television, only you can see much further.

By JACOB EZZO By far, my personal favorite underappreciated book is Being There. It is a satirical novel written by Polish writer Jerzy Kosinski. The book indirectly ridicules American politics. Only until I became more involved in politics did I realize it was a satirical novel. The main character, Chance, is a simple gardener who never learned to read or write. When the head of his home dies, he is released into a world in which he is clueless. Left homeless, Chance wonders the streets until taken under the wing of the Rands, a family of very high power. Through a series of events, he single handedly becomes one of the most notable people in the country. The face value of the novel is that society has come far enough to accept

It was very compelling, with great characters and an interesting story. The music is loud and exciting and makes you want to get up and dance along with Freddie. The movie just debuted November 2, so go out to the local theatre and enjoy a good biopic.

everyone’s ideas, but truly it is about how corrupt politics are and how any Joe Schmoe can become a leader. The novel was adapted into a screenplay in 1979 starring Peter Sellers as Chance and Shirley MacLaine as Eve Rand. Definitely worth a watch…or a read.

THE PROWLER 5VOLUME XIV, ISSUE XLV SeasonalSeasonalTypes of Tea and Their Purposes Tea… By SAMANTHA SHYGELSKI Food and drink throughout history have made quite the impact to societies around the world. Tea has been around for thousands of years going from one group of people to the next. It appeared in Great Britain in the early 1600s and quickly expanded to the colonies. People couldn’t get enough of tea. Workers during the industrial revolution would drink it in the morning to start their day and give them a boost of caffeine and energy. But many different forms of tea are out there besides the classic black tea. Different kinds of tea are blended for several purposes. Black tea is full of polyphenols, which are believed to have disease preventing antioxidant properties. Black tea is also commonly consumed for a boost of caffeine for those who don’t like coffee. Chamomile is commonly used for a calming effect and a sleep aid. It has also shown anti-depressant effects. Peppermint tea is used for digestive support, antioxidants, anticancer, antibacterial, and antiviral

properties. Ginger tea gives an anti-inflammatory effect and stimulates the immune system. Sage tea helps brain health cognitive function. There are also many different combinations of herbal teas that can provide a multitude of different effects. A good example of this would be sleepy time tea is a mixture of chamomile, spearmint, lemongrass, lindens, and blackberry. This combination provides a calming and soothing effect that acts as a sleep aid. All in all tea is very interesting and can be used as a remedy for many different things in the human body. And even if you don’t need tea for a medicinal property, you can always just enjoy a good drink to soothe the soul.

Most Popular Pies of Thanks-giving Apple? Pumpkin? Or something else? By SAMANTHA SHYGELSKI Americans all across the country celebrate Thanksgiv-ing this month. They will feast on turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and much more. But the real star of the show is af-ter the meal, when the pies are brought out. There are many popular and delicious pies out there: apple, pumpkin, berry, chocolate, pecan, peach. All different kinds, and everyone has their favorite, which got me wondering. What is the most popular pie served on Thanksgiving?

The Best Thanksgiving Meals For the whole familyBy KELCI WILSON Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and what is Thanksgiving without delicious food and, of course, being with family? But let’s focus on the main attraction in this article - food! Here is a list of the well-loved dishes on Thanksgiving: A Perfect Roast Turkey: What even is Thanksgiving without the most essential part of it? The turkey is often the most anticipated dish of this holiday, and without it, we would be lost. Mashed Potatoes: “I hate mashed potatoes,” said no one ever. Stuffing/Dressing: Is this even a question? Of course, there needs to be stuffing! Pie: Pumpkin, sweet potato, pecan, or apple, who doesn’t look forward to the moment when you can dig in?  Dinner Rolls: The true hero of Thanksgiving. Cranberry Sauce: If this isn’t on your table come dinnertime, then what are you even doing? Even if your favorite meal, side dish, or dessert isn’t listed, the point is that Thanksgiving is your opportunity to eat as much as you can and get stuffed in the comfort of your home with family and friends, so why not go crazy?

PA 4-H State Horse Show TAHS Students take the Pennsylvania 4-H State Horse Show by storm By SERENA AUMICK The students that showed at the Pennsylvania 4-H State Horse Show are Addison Puza, Ava Dombrinski, and Serena Aumick. 8th grade student Addison Puza showed in the class Hunt Seat Equitation on the Flat. 8th grade student Macci Iddings was not able to show due to her horse going lame, although she qualified for the class Classic Hunter Under Saddle Ages 8-13. 9th grade student Ava Dombrinski showed in the classes Hunter Ponies on the Flat, Pony Under Saddle, Hunter Hack, and Showmanship. Ava won 5th place in Hunter Ponies on the Flat and 8th place in Hunter Hack. 9th grade student Serena Aumick showed in the classes Ranch Horse Pleasure and Western Horsemanship. Serena won 6th place in Ranch Horse Pleasure. The Pennsylvania 4-H State Horse Show isn’t all about showing horses, there are also other competitions

such as the photography competition. There are educational opportunities such as the model horse show exhibit. The opening ceremony is something exciting to look forward to because the awards for the projects that are completed throughout the year for the 4-H program are given out. If you want a snack while you’re watching a horse show, “Rachel’s Pretzels” are always sure to please. It takes hard work and determination to make it to the Pennsylvania 4-H State Horse Show and the small-town girls from Tunkhannock certainly proved that they are state level competitors.

I did some research and came up with some results. No sur-prise that pumpkin turned out to be the most popular choice, but I was surprised to see that pecan pie was just as popu-lar as the traditional apple. Besides those top three some other popular pies are cherry, blueberry, sweet potato, lemon meringue, and chocolate. No matter what kind of pie you decide to indulge in this Thanksgiving, every pie is de-licious, and is sure to make a wonderful dessert. Source: delish.com

Lacrosse Tournament The season is back already? By LOGHAN HIRKEY With fall sports ending, it is time to think of the future – girls’ lacrosse! No, sorry, spring sports are not here quite yet. However, the girl’s lax team heads to Lake Lehman School to test their abilities in a tournament. On November 4 the girls headed to Lake Lehman to play their favorite sport all day, and compete with surrounding areas. This tournament did not count for their season. Its main purpose was to shake the cobwebs off and have fun. The tournaments are set up as 7 vs 7, which means only seven girls will play on the field per team. Tunkhannock brought two teams to switch around, and hopefully come through with some wins. Admission for this event was 18 dollars to play. The Lady Tigers brought home some wins! After the tournament, the girls didn’t pull through with any wins, but made their mark

against four tough teams while having fun. The Lady Tigers were split into two teams, team one played Dallas, Abington, Delaware Valley, and Crestwood. Rachel Martin had four goals, Lily Fettermen had two, Loghan Hirkey had two assists, and Erin Weaver had one. Jordana Bach had an innumerable amount of saves. Overall, a successful day for getting into the swing of things. Team two didn’t pull through with any wins either, but fought their hearts out with a new goalie. They played Lake Lehman, Dallas, and Delaware Valley. Goals, assists, and saves weren’t recorded. Congrats to both teams for playing their hearts out on a cold Sunday.

Vietnam Veterans How were they treated when they got back home?By IRELAND CLARK The Vietnam War was a bloody war that started on November 1, 1955 and ended on April 30, 1975. This over 20-year war was one of the most controversial wars that the United States has ever been involved in. Many protests occurred during the war. Protestors, who were usually college students, were against military deployment and the war in general. They wanted peace instead of war, and were angry with President Johnson for deploying more and more soldiers. “Men who fought in World War II or Korea might be just as haunted by what they had personally seen and done in combat... but they did not come home, as the Vietnam vets did, to a country torn and full of doubt about why those wars were fought, and whether they had been worthwhile. Nor did they return as symbols of a great national failure.” In his book, Vietnam Shadows: The War, Its Ghosts, and Its Legacy, Arnold R. Isaacs explains how other veterans from different wars were treated with respect and were honored. The veterans from Vietnam were not, however. They were disrespected and shunned for being involved in

a controversial war. Many soldiers received a cold welcome home from friends and family, but especially from the antiwar movement. There were rare incidents where protestors from the movement even spit on soldiers and called them “Baby Killers.” In a book written by Christian G. Appy, Working-Class War: American Combat Soldiers and Vietnam, he writes, “Some protesters simply did not make a clear distinction between the war and those who fought it, and they regarded American soldiers as ready and willing killers or ignorant dupes.” It was apparent that the soldiers weren’t going to get the treatment they deserved. The soldiers and veterans of the Vietnam War were not treated like other soldiers from other wars. They were disrespected and shunned. We cannot change the past, but maybe this Veteran’s Day, show support to a Vietnam veteran who never got it when they returned home.

Warped Tour: from first to lastMemories made, if you can even rememberBy CLYDE M. DANKINS The year is 2017, rock is out, and rap is in. Yet through this haze of vape smoke and controversy, one place provides solace for emos and nerds alike, Warped Tour. The tradition started in the summer of 1995 and quickly took off. This festival took many bands from obscurity to monumental status. Bands like Blink 182, Beartooth, and My Chemical Romance all got their big break from Warped Tour. It’s no wonder why the festival was a big hit, but it came as a surprise to many when news erupted that Warped Tour 2018 would be the final Warped Tour. After 23 years what could have brought this invincible tradition to an end? You can speculate all you want but truth is we may never know. My voice can only go so far, so here’s what Warped Tour meant to others. “I think that it’s just pretty sad thing that they are ending something that was a great way to find out about new local bands, and just new band in general. And for me only going to warped tour once it really impacted me. It really just opened my eyes to other types of music.” ~ Ryan DeRemer Though Warped Tour may be over its memory will live on in those who went and the stories they pass on. The message will pass through the music that was played there. We may never be able to see Taking Back Sunday play Cute Without The E ever again, but the air waves are still filled with their messages. Young teenage hearts will still be motivated by Check Yes, Juliet and Ocean Avenue. For those who never attended and wonder what attracted so many, I will leave you with this, the unofficial theme song of Warped Tour: Bro Hymn by Pennywise.

Apple Music Charts Your top ten tracks for November 2018! By DONOVAN CURLEY

Those tunes, though, man....

1- Natural: Imagine Dragons- This song is Imagine Dragons’ new song is a sneak peek at the new album Origins set to be released on November 9, 2018 lead singer, Dan Reynolds say that the “finding yourself and being willing and able to stand up to whatever adversity comes your way”. 2-Young Blood: Five Seconds of Summer- Five Seconds of Summer is a fairly new band with now three albums under their belt, this pop-punk band seems to be leaning towards a singular pop genre with their most recent album “Youngblood” according to Rolling Stones, the band’s latest album is more about their loss

in interest in being hardcore partiers. 3-On my Way to You: Cody Johnson- Cody Johnson debuted in 2006 and has fought his way to the top of the charts. “On my Way to You” seems uneven in the fact that halfway through the song he switches from very light electric guitar in the background to a loud solo that throws the whole song apart. 4-Simple: Florida Georgia Line- This is a love song to the simplicity of a solid and happy relationship; the song talks about how happy they are to have the one they love at their side and nothing else. 5-Mercy: Brett Young- This is an opposite to the

other love songs on the chart, the song is just a pure note of sadness and remorse at a broken relationship that Brett just wishes would end fast. 6-In My Feelings: Drake- Yes, this meme of a song is still clinging to the charts after gaining massive popularity over the summer. Drake is simply asking for commitment from Kiki, KB, Resha, and JT, are these the same girl? The world may never know. 7-You Say: Lauren Daigle- Lauren is pleading for someone to lean on as she

Lil Miquela The human-like robot By LOGHAN HIRKEY At nineteen, what will we be doing? Off to college? Working somewhere? Well, at least we know we won’t be nineteen forever, like the human robot Miquela. Miquela Sousa, better known as Lil Miquela came into our lives in 2016 as an Instagram model. However, she was different from the rest… she didn’t look… real. The Instagram model we had come to love, definitely wasn’t as she seemed. Lil Miquela was created by Trevor McFedries and Sara Decou as a digital art project. The project’s goal was in fact to see the publicity Miquela could get as a “real model”. For several months, we thought she was just an unreal looking Instagram model/music artist with a dream of fame. By April of 2016, Miquela had over a million followers and was even verified; everything was going great for the Instagram model, until Bermuda showed up. Like Miquela, Bermuda is a digital art robot, however she wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows like Miquela, she

was a Pro Trump cutthroat robot, who would do anything to expose Miquela. Bermuda began posting nasty things about Miquela being “fake to her fans”. And even hacked Miquela’s Instagram, posting pictures of herself, and continually calling Miquela a fake, a robot. After regaining her Insta, Bermuda still hassled her through DM’S until Miquela finally agreed to meet her. Through bitter arguments and lots of eye rolling, the truth came out, Miquela was a robot.

world. Blawko and Miquela thought Bermuda was insane,

Not only did this shock her fans, but completely shatter them. Many were outraged because of her dishonesty to her loyal followers. However, she took it in stride, gave her gap tooth smile to the world, and eventually began gaining more followers and keeping the hearts of many. Bermuda didn’t stop there, she wanted Miquela and Blawko, (Miquela’s best friend who also turned out to be a part of the project), to take over the

honestly all this drama be-tween robots is crazy!

She was ruthless until about August of 2018, when

she too joined the project Brud. They gave her an up-

grade in physical appearance, and apparently altered her way of thinking. She came out lov-ing the world and the people

in it. The fact that she changed just like that sends chills down

my spine. Not long after the up-

grade, Bermuda began dating Blawko for several months. Just recently they broke up, causing Miquela to finally connect with Bermuda as

friends. As said on her Insta-gram caption, “she didn’t even

roll her eyes once.” All three of them continue to have drama and bewilder the minds of millions. Who

knows how many more robots could be added to the project. They function like a human, wear fashionable name brand clothes like a celebrity, and

continue to make their mark in the future of technology.

Lil Miquela deserves a follow. You will be amazed by how lifelike she is, and how

sassy, fun, and fascinating she can actually be.

Fears and PhobiasCuriosity is getting the best of me. Again.By EMMA MORAN Do you ever find yourself in a situation where your heart begins to race, palms begin to sweat, and you can’t think straight? You’re experiencing fear. Fear, by dictionary definition, is an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that something is dangerous, likely to cause pain or a threat. Like spiders. But how does fear work? When we believe we are in danger, our brain sends signals to our nervous system. The body responds to these signals, and causes reactions such as a faster heartbeat, rapid breathing, and an increase in blood pressure. Blood pumps to the muscles to prepare the body for physical action. The skin produces sweat to keep the body cold. While this happens, the brain decides if it is danger. If the brain decides there is no danger, the body returns to normal. If danger is detected, a “fight or flight” reaction occurs. For example, the spider will either get smacked or you will run away.

Now that you know how fear works, you might ask, “But why do I fear xxxx? It isn’t going to cause me any danger.” It’s all in our minds, friends. We learn to fear things that we are unsure of. Take public speaking, for example. You are not in any danger when you speak in front of a group or a class, but you start thinking of ways you might mess up what you will say and make yourself afraid. A phobia is an intense fear reaction. Basically, a phobia is fear amped up way too many notches. Phobias can interfere with everyday matters. For example, if someone had a phobia of dogs (Cynophobia), they would change the route they walked to school to avoid a dog. Phobias form after you have been in a horrible situation. Continuing with the dog example, if you were bitten by a dog as a child, you might end up with Cynophobia.Source:https://kidshealth.org/en/teens/phobias.html

Colors of the SunsetSo pretty, but why?By EMMA MORAN Small confession: I am obsessed with sunsets. I have at least a hundred shots of sunsets on my phone. During the summer, I like to sit on my porch with a glass of iced tea and watch the sun set. How can you blame me? Sunsets are gorgeous. But one day, scrolling through all those pictures, a thought hit me. Why does the sun turn all sorts of beautiful colors during the sunset? This question nagged me ever since. I did some digging. By digging, I mean I typed “Why does the sky turn colors at sunset” into my Google search engine and tried to find a valid source. The sun radiates light. Some of this light is invisible to the human eye, but the colors that make our sunsets spectacular are part of the visible light spectrum. Our eyes can see the different wavelengths that make all light from infrared to ultraviolet. Some of that light is absorbed into the atmosphere, where it is scattered. Usually the absorbed light is blue, purple and green, which leaves the red, yellow and orange light that can make so many sunsets. The absorbed light has shorter wavelengths. This is the explanation for blue skies… an article for another time.Source: https://news.nationalgeographic .com

“Mexico should move the flag waving Migrants, many of whom are stone cold crimi-nals, back to their countries. Do it by plane, do it by bus, do it anyway you want, but they are NOT coming into the U.S.A. We will close the Bor-der permanently if need be. Congress, fund the WALL!” President Trump tweeted on Monday, November 26. This comes after US border offi-cers used tear gas and rocks to repel those who were trying to cross the border due to them “disturbing the peace”. 42 people who managed to cross the border have been arrested

and 98 others were returned to their home country from the border post.

This caravan is estimated to have 5,000 people in it, and some of them are planning on coming to the United States to flee the current state of Gua-temala; which is still recover-ing from a 36 year civil war (1960-1996) where 200,000 people were killed or went missing. Others are fleeing gang violence, poverty, and political instability in Cen-tral American countries. At least 500 of these people have criminal records according to Homeland Security and 100 criminals have been arrested in Mexico. There were three main caravans, one with 4,000 mi-grants, and two other smaller

groups. Mexico’s Interior Ministry estimates that 2,793 of these migrants requested asylum in Mexico and 500 requested help to return back to their home countries. The caravan split into separate groups as a result of difficul-ties. Roughly 4,000 migrants endured the “route of death” through the town of Cordoba in the state of Veracruz. This state, like many other Mexi-can states, is filled with crime. Authorities in Veracruz found the remains of 174 people buried, and some believe that they belong to migrants. Ac-cording to the human rights group Amnesty International, 20,000 migrants are kid-napped every year and six out of ten migrant girls and wom-en are raped during the trip.

President Donald Trump deployed over 7,000 troops to the U.S. border and threatens to close the border entirely. One Arizona town on the border is organizing their own militia to deter the migrants.

Spotify Uses Our DNA?How many “Me’s” do I have to fight to use my account?By BRENDON ELY No, Spotify is not cloning people, and, no, they are not doing any crazy experiments with it either. Spotify and the genealogy company Ancestry are partnering up to create something unique, and innovative. According to fortune.com, what they are doing is taking DNA to find someone’s heritage to create a personal playlist with music from that country or of a certain style. This is done by ordering a DNA test kit which costs $100, and then users complete the test and send it back to get the results. Spotify and Ancestry partnered up to accomplish this so people who are interested in their heritage and culture could

now experience it wherever they are; it allows people to connect to their past. But if a user wanted to get a better understanding of what they listen to and how often they listen to it without the worry of possibly being cloned, they could get results based on account history. Another option Spotify included was the ability to choose the top 5 regions a user’s ancestors may have come from and can get results based on that information alone. With this many options it’s clear that Spotify only wants originals and not clones. With recent privacy concerns and selling of personal data, this is reassuring.

Pixel 3 ReviewIs Google still the camera king?By BRENDON ELY Google started the Pixel project about 3 years ago now, and the result is an android phone that is just as clean as the IOS competition. The Google Pixel 3 and 3 XL are two of the most anticipated phones of the year, right alongside Apple and Samsung of course, but why is that? Well Google’s recipe for a smartphone, albeit a little simplistic, is put together really well, and that’s why people are paying attention. However, a recipe isn’t such, if one doesn’t know the ingredients, right? With all that said, the Google Pixel 3 and 3 XL are Google’s best to offer, and it shows. The Pixel 3 is the smaller of the two with the XL being the larger one. According to androidcentral.com the regular Pixel 3 is a 5.5in screen with small bezels, while the XL is 6.3in and it has small bezels, and a notch. Both screens are great, but not nearly as good as the Samsung Galaxy Note 9.

They both have the same internals for the most part, except the battery, which smaller than it could be and its disappointing, especially with a $899 price tag and when compared to something like the Galaxy Note 9. Both Pixels have the snapdragon 845 (the latest CPU from Qualcomm) and 4Gb of RAM which is on the low end. But the real stars of the show are the cameras, Google must be using some kind of black magic because these are the BEST smartphone cameras that are available, and have been since the first Pixel. This year both Pixel’s sport a single 12MP rear camera, with a multitude of sensors and software goodies to go along with it. One of those software goodies being the Google lens feature, which started out on only the Pixel and then moved to other devices. Google lens is a AI run feature that uses the camera to give the user information on whatever the camera sees, whether that be

a bag of Takis or a car, google lens will tell you what it is, where to get it ect. If anything, Google holds tight on the camera king title by doing things a little different than most. Many smartphone companies tend to improve, or try to improve their hardware and software

LGBTQ+ community and The Black Lives Matter movement, he consistently holds and displays flags of each group during his concerts, and talks about the importance as well as the ac-ceptance of love for each other. He is a strong believer in being and expressing yourself however you want. He has spoken up about gun violence and brings awareness to young people everywhere. His signature slogan is “Treat People with Kind-ness,” How much better can a person be? Zendaya: Zendaya continuously fights against racial stereotypes, pro-motes body positivity for all people, and is a tirelessly motivat-ed and determined woman. She is culturally aware and often educates her fans on issues going on in our world. Zendaya is an avid feminist who stands for and with women. Will Smith: We all know Smith from his Fresh Prince days and since then, he has remained unapologetically himself, He’s goofy, genuine, and confident. He has become a father people look up to. Smith is faithful and loving to his family and friends. He gives inspiring life advice on his recently created Instagram and YouTube channel, and he advocates happiness in all forms. Emma Watson: Everyone knows Watson from the iconic Harry Potter se-ries and the recent live action adaptation of Beauty and The Beast, but some of her best attributes and accomplishments are as a person rather than an actor. Firstly, she seems to know the importance of education as she made the decision to attend college after the Harry Potter franchise ended. She cares about the environment, and is definitely not afraid to stand up for the things she believes in. Emma Watson is generous and selfless and should be viewed as an inspiring person to many people.

at the same time, not so with Google. They focus on the software rather than toy around with different hardware combinations, the Pixel 3 is very similar to the Pixel 2. It’s a tactic that is definitely working, and it shows.

Unproblematic Celebrities By KELCI WILSON It always seems as though we only hear about the ugly side of celebrities in the media, why never the good ones? To sum it up, it simply makes good business. When famous people con-sidered well-loved and respected do or say something ques-tionable, the media eats it up as well as the viewers who want to know and be able to form their opinions on the situation. Taking a step aside from the negativity of some and focusing on the positivity of many, here is a list of the five most unprob-lematic celebrities of this generation: Chris Evans: We all know and love Evans for his portrayal of our favorite Marvel superhero, Captain America, What you may not know about him is that he regularly uses his platform on Twitter to call out outlandish remarks, educate his followers on impor-tant topics, and inform them of what goes on in our country every day. High School Veterans Day TAHS concert honors local veterans By AURORA BEAUCHEANE On November 9 at 9:00 a.m. the high school honored veter-ans in the auditorium for over an hour. Starting with the pre-sentation of colors and pledge, then followed by the national anthem by the ninth through twelfth grade concert band. Open-ing remarks by Mr. Bosscher led into “You’re a Grand Old Flag” and “America” performed by the concert band. Grades eight through twelve sang “Song for the Unsung Hero”. Afterwards, eighth grader Ashley Buckley read her prize-winning essay about why it is important to remember World War I. She discussed honoring veterans. Veterans Day as we know it was first made a holiday on May 16, 1938, shifting from only honoring the millions who served in World War I to include everyone who served. The eighth-grade band took to the risers to play “God Bless the USA”. Then guest speaker and retired Sergeant Jeff Swire gave a speech highlighting many honorable men and women who served and why it is important to remember them. The grades 9 through 12 Concert Choir sang “Homeland” and “Armed Forces Salute”, encompassing all branches of the military by asking veterans to stand when they heard their branch played. Closing remarks were then given by Mr. Luck-ey and Mrs. Kasperowski. The performance came to a close as the choir sang “God Bless America” and “Taps” was played on trumpet. The colors were retired, and the veterans and their families were invited to a free lunch sponsored by the faculty. The celebration was a great way to remember military.
