Editor’s Notes: TUP Reaches 113 Years of Existence : A Call for Celebration Reaching 113 years of exis-tence is indeed one of the major tri-umphs of the Technological University of the Philippines, which calls for a celebration. The reminiscence of copi-ous events in its existence is notably amplified all over again in the celebra-tion of its 113 th years of foundation anniversary. Such is the ambiance at TUP as it went through more than a century of struggle, growth and devel-opment and a life cycle focused on technology education that brought it outstanding chronicles of achievements. TUP celebrates its 113 th year Foundation Anniversary on December 15-19, 2014. The accomplishments of the University are undeniably descriptive of the unwavering changes in our so-ciety’s requisite for education acquisition. Mainly focused on the four-fold functions of instruction, research, extension, and pro-duction, TUP’s commitment is profoundly embodied in the vision-mission of the University just as in the vision-mission of the President, Dr. Adora S. Pili, though creating new vistas of modification and development that would shift TUP’s gears to higher grounds; eventually construct a new edifice of learning technology education not only in TUP but, optimistically in the country as well. Indeed, TUP has its own rightful place in the academe. This did not happen overnight; hence, the pioneering and long drawn efforts that successfully made this University develop from its very early stages should constantly be remembered for they could very well serve as challenges to sustain and even sur-pass the number of gathered laurels during the past 113 years. The extensive efforts of the past leaderships could be seen through the significant numbers of milestones of TUP as it jour-neys toward technological excellence. One blatant and satisfy-ing proof is the exceptional performance of TUP graduates in the various professional examinations that contributes much to its reputation in the fields of engineering, technology, industrial education, science and arts. No doubt being an institution for higher learning, TUP continues to move forward. Given these challenges, the present management through the brilliant leadership of President Pili envisions to di-rect the University where it should be heading to. With the pro-posed vision and mission laid out, the President reassures “TUP will continue its journey as the premier state university with rec-ognized excellence in applied sciences, engineering and technol-ogy at par with leading Universities in the ASEAN Region.” The truth to be told is that “there is no other way but for TUP to go forward, onward and up to higher grounds.” Elizabeth J. Galvez

from other speakers were focused on Climate Change and Environment. Meanwhile, the papers presented by the different SUC’s provided an op-portunity for all the participants to share their knowledge and best experiences particularly in responding to extension quality standards in their respective regions.

A total of fifty five (55) SUCs participated with 58 papers presented on parallel sessions. It was noted that there was 78 percent increase in the number of membership in the association. Due to the success of this 4th biennial convention, a training on National Capability Building was or-ganized for 2015, plans to conduct an Interna-tional Extension Convention and 5th Biennial Con-vention in 2016 were drawn.

Prof. Angeles was re-elected as the president of PAEPI for 2015-2016 as a result of the general election on the second day of the convention.
